Treadwell's Lemurs

The Arrival of Spring

With the coming of the spring weather came many things -- the warm rays of the sun, sweet, fresh rains to water the crops, the return of songbirds and the birth of cattle and livestock -- but one thing was a bit different this year in the wood.

It seems that the venerable Councilor Treadwell had found his property invaded by a family of lemurs, quite similar to his recently adopted pet. Taking up residence in the trees around his estate, the tiny prosimians had taken quite a liking to the fat man's land.

Sir`j, Treadwell's lemur, on the other hand -- who should have been the most annoyed by this encroachment of territory, actually took quite well to the other lemurs and can often be seen playing and having mock stink-fights with the other animals, often resulting in a very smelly animal when it finally came back indoors for its evening meal.

Of course, this was vexing to old Master Treadwell, who both had been trying desperately to fatten his little catmonkey up, but suffered from the unwanted and unwarranted invasion of his property by a large number of these small primates.

The worst of it is, this was not the only family of lemurs that had suddenly taken up residence in the Wood. Reports around town had state that a number had popped up around the Broken Dagger and other areas in Myrken Wood as well, though no where nearly as large as the concentration of about a baker's dozen lemurs living in the trees surrounding the Treadwell home.

Why these lemurs had come to call Myrken Wood home, no one would know -- but the more pressing question was -- where did they come from?!

(This is an open thread, so feel free to post and have fun!)

Welcome to Lemur-ken Wood?

Postby Treadwell » Sun Mar 07, 2004 3:27 pm

He'd survived one evening of lemur-induced madness. Raylan certainly hasn't approved, no, and her silent, frowning face has been enough to nudge Treadwell to action. So, as night falls on this second day of lemurdom, Myrken's dear old secretive Father Winter tightens the sash 'round his bright red robe, looks in on his sleeping pet that rests by his bed, and sneaks out into the snoozing lemur colony behind and around his house. With heavy, heavy heart, the portly, benevolent, wintry-minded chap swoops his arms up and out, and the temperature in those woods 'round his lakeside house plummets nicely as the trees themselves are once again covered in frost--a final, Treadwell-exhausting cold snap, the last of anything wintry he can conjure up for the moment with the recent arrival of spring.

Just maybe that will send the visiting, foreign lemurs scurrying. . . and not inside his house.

The trouble with ringtails...

Postby Thall » Sun Mar 07, 2004 5:46 pm

Haar's Plight

It was bad enough that the influence was slowly encroaching upon Haar's home in the woods, but now -- he had to contend with a family of lemurs that had decided that his -property- was an ideal setting. Of course, he was a bit friendlier to the little buggers than Treadwell was, but he knew that lemurs in large groups could be trouble. He would put out a bowl of fruit for them in the morning and come to find it gone fifteen minutes later. He worried more about the Influence corrupting and consuming the sweet little beasts more than anything -- and it would be his operandi tonight to go out and have a look at it.

For the time being, the Paladin was less than thrilled to be awoken just before dawn to the screeching hoots and calls of ring-tailed lemurs. As adorable as the creatures were, they were always trouble in groups -- and he had heard they were causing trouble all over Myrken Wood at this point.

He groaned as he wiped the nightdust from his eyes and rose to look out at the family of fourteen lemurs frolicing and playing in his yard.

"By St. Thacci Meridin of Ala Mirin!" He cried, slamming a window shut to keep the fuzzy beasts who loved to mark their territory out of his cottage, but it was already too late. He turned to see a baby lemur looking up at him, wagging its tail behind it. It barked loudly and the mother soon came in a moment later and hooted threateningly at Haar.

"Great, now I have an angry mum and her pup in my house and I have no way to get rid of them --" with that, he grabbed a broom and whapped the floor in front of them, causing the mother to scoop up her child and bound out of the room -- Haar chasing behind it and finally leading it out one of the other open windows. He slammed the windows just nanos after the female lemur's long, luxurious tail had gotten out of reach of the shutters. He then looked over to his table and noticed a slight smell...

"Wonderful, marking... I'll never be able to get rid of them now."
He sighed and dropped his broom, walking to the waterpump in a side room to get water and a washrag, hopefully to get the lemur-stench out of his house before long... it was going to be a long week -- he could feel it.
