Not a single guard within Eriks' home could say that they had witnessed the Govenor and his guard taking leave of their 'hospitality'. The door to their room had never opened nor had any on the grounds seen the two attempting to use the window. They were gone. Simple as that. The bed had been made nicely, things straightened neatly. All of their belongings that had been so kindly provided gone as well. The only thing out of place was a note left upon the desk, Helstone's words and Rosamaria's odd sense of humor:

To my colleague General Eriks DeMord Sleipner, Councilor of Myrken Wood:
Despite your considerable and only somewhat-welcomed hospitality, I have decided that I can no longer effectively govern the province in these turbulent times from my constrained and curtailed vantage point in your comfortable guest room. Thus, Rosa and I have taken our leave of your lovely home on this fine afternoon and will be returning to our own quarters on our own time.
I urge you to not make a fuss about my departure, General. We are intelligent men, you and I; we are beyond such petty weaknesses; you do not want the governorship, after all, and I can think of far better ways to use your considerable talents than having you hung for treason, which would be the unfortunate course of action should you choose to pursue a return to the advocation of disunity and the suborning of one's rightful Governor.
What you pledged to me that afternoon makes me trust you again, despite what you have done; I do remain assured, sir, that you are working in the best interests of Myrken Wood. I will see you -- on my own power -- at the Council table.
Sincerely,
Coriolanus Helstone
Governor of Myrken Wood.
