Mending Fences

[Sherazade]

Bakari had in the dark hours of early morning, risen from the daggers floor and taken his still sleeping daughter into his arms, soft gaze lingered upon her as he moved towards the door. What could be afraid of telling him, and why he had never given her a reason to fear him that he knew of. Door was pushed open with a shoulder and he was moving down the steps towards the forest, towards the clearing where he had pitched his tent.

Sometime later as the sun began to break through the forest's canopy began to warm the earth vashti stirred, lashes rising to find her father watching her. She knew by his pose by the look on his face he was waiting for her to tell him why she had run, what she was afraid of, and yet for some reason he was not going to push her for the answers. Tongue darted across lips suddenly rendered dry and she began to speak, to pour out the whole sordid tale.

Fury grew in him as he listened to his daughters tale and he had to fight to keep it from showing to keep the growl rising within him from spilling outward, and yet he knew she could sense it in him could tell by the way her head began to hang forward and her shoulders slumped, and yet she continued to speak. She was brave this child of his ..despite the fact she had run away that in itselfhad taken courage and that thought enabled him to be gentle as he reached out a hand let his fingers caress her cheek "It wasnt your fault Vashti you had every right to protect yourself" Niether of them were quite sure how it happened but suddenly she was in his arms her own flung around his neck as she wept.

"Shhh little one " his voice was a soothing rumble as he stroked her hair, but she did not seem able to cease the wet storm flowing over his shoulder and so he did something he had not done in sometime and began to sing to her, the words of a soft soothing lullaby.
