Money and power often went hand in hand, often with money being used to support those in power. Though an outlander, the founding of a Knighthood had left Sir Malaroth Deucalios a bit of both. With that money word had begun to circulate, without the trail of posters and signs, that the Council had not truly ruled on the people's behalf concerning the Ashfiend.

Indeed, since the Council Meeting that first, and finally, discussed the threat that he posed the creature had set fire to an orphanage under construction. Rumors of his appearance were born with every sunset and those already stricken by the monstrous creature prayed never to run afoul of him again.

In response to fear and frustration the spreading word went something like this:

A hunt was being planned. And all those of sufficient ability and desire to see Myrken Wood free of the first of many evils would find a welcome ally in the Grand Master of the Shepherd Knights. Those interested in joining the hunt are most welcome to leave word with Sir Malaroth at the knight's Chapter House or with the man himself who often frequented the Broken Dagger Inn.

With any luck the Ashfiend would be ended soon.

Before heading off to his daily routine and work with the knights, Glenn had stopped in at the Mudd, sat down at a desk and taken a deep breath. It had been something of a hard decision, just who to go to with this concern. He had expressed it somewhat to Malaroth but, there was still a bit of doubt there. He was a good man but so very focused on the immediate need. The gypsy was certainly sympathetic but he couldn't trust her to be subtle.

That left who would likely be his first choice anyway, Alastir Savoy.

The note was written in a very simple 'next letter' code. Anyone with half a brain could figure it out in a minute or two, but it meant that no barely literate messenger would be able to. Anyway, he would keep it vague.

Alastir,

I am under the assumption that you are going forward with your plans for the upcoming assault. If you are successful, you MUST assure that he dies immediately thereafter, a natural death. If you fail and his body is destroyed, you must somehow assure that his rage is dissipated. My great fear in this entire affair is that Vraal will be able to bind him again. That will be the ruin of all of us. You are the only one I can trust to prevent even the possibility of this. His spirit MUST end at rest. Beware.

There, that said nothing that could implicate Alastir too much. Oh, if Deost found it and did not respect the privacy implied by the simple code, then perhaps it would cause Savoy some problems, but nothing he could not circumvent.

He sent the message off with the most trustworthy person he could find, at short notice, and then set off. Likely he would not see Alastir before the assault. The message would have to be enough.
