Tea Parties

When Berdini reaches out his hands, Catch would flinch. Now would be a time to run, for he has been too bold. But the Councilman's palms come to rest gently against his cheeks, and Catch flushes a pale pink, his lips, once grimacing, now spreading into a slow, slow smile, even with the admonishment.

"Th-there are, there are th-those who teach, and th-those who follow. And - and I will be Mister Catch, I promise. I, I have -"

And then, he kissed. And it felt just like Iron Shoes, though Iron Shoes was terribly aggressive about most things. But this was something he could deny. He doesn't. There is not an ounce of sexual tension in this kiss, only a fierce kind of joy, an intimate sharing of skin. Closeness. He adored closeness, and when Berdini was done, the addled man squirmed in a fevered trance, his laugh a nervous, but giddy, thickness.

"M-m-more?" he asks, and Catch is just like every flighty virgin-girl that Berdini has corrupted, a flutter of excitement. Though those girls, likely, had a more firm grasp on what the man was offering. "I. I like you - you b-b-both. I c-c-could - I could watch, th-then?" He stammers through his reasoning, gripping the edge of the table so that he does not spring up and curl himself, like a cat, about Stefan's person. This teahouse was wonderful. It was marvelous. "I watch th-th-the, the alley-cats, ser. B-b-but people are - are n-n-not cats, you see?"

"What if I hurt her, or - or you? WH-wh-what if I d-d-do it wrong, and you won't - you won't help m-m-me be a gentleman?" He admits it, in the wake of that kiss, because his brains have little else to hide.

He smiled at Catch's innocent reaction to the kiss. He was as tender and fresh as a young woman on her eighteenth summer. The man's doting adoration was intoxicating.

He let one hand remain on the other man's face, a tender thumb stroking gently down that unkempt jaw. "Well let us see what Miss Annabelle thinks hmm? She'd have to agree of course, though I myself have never had a problem performing in front of an audience." A coy look for Catch, though likely the double entendre would be missed.

With his free hand he'd wave for the teahouse girl he had been entertaining earlier, though he'd hold up one finger to pause her in her stride over as Catch asked a rather serious and important question.

"Well my dear Mr. Catch. You promised that you would cause no harm to these fine ladies, and besides, if you're only watching I can't imagine you could cause much trouble." He smiled charmingly and then leaned over close to him, his lips almost brushing along the flesh of the other man's ear as he whispered in the lowest of voices. "But between you and I, there's nothing wrong with hurting someone else now and then. It's only a problem if you get caught. And we my good friend, shall never get caught shall we?"

He leaned back then and smiled again and motioned for the teahouse girl once more, beconing her to his side as he presumably whispered the proposal into her ear.

Catch's skin burns under that touch, a fever-fire that ever lingered under the addled man's skin. He takes a deep breath, to clear his head, but the cobwebs only thicken with the smell of perfumes and colognes, cakes and tea. Catch's hand reaches out, unconsciously, for a cake, holding it in his trembling hand as Ser Stefan leaned in close, to whisper in a ear that, hidden by curls, was decidedly elfin, tapered, with the crude suggestion of wispy curls from lobe and shell.

That was - that felt wrong, and Catch frowns, a little, more of confusion than anything else. Hurting people was - "If, if th-they're bad, isn't it?" he asks Stefan, trying to keep his voice low as Annabelle looms close. "It's alr-r-right if they're bad, if th-they've done something wrong." There were many wrong things for a person to do, and Catch slowly smiles, thinking that he understands. That he understands quite well. He has felt the canes of men for infractions both major and minor, the sadists, the cruel. Catch was certain that he would never be cruel, but was he not a Junior Constable? It was his duty to bring bad things to justice, put them in holes.

It was hard to think with Berdini's hand on his skin, stroking his chin.

"I'm a v-v-very quiet watcher," Catch tells Annabelle as Ser Stefan leans in to whisper to her, trying to be confident and a Mister. "I, I watch p-p-people as th-they sleep all th-the time, and th-they d-d-d-don't even know."

"Of course. That would certainly be one of those times of exception." He'd say to his new friend with a smile, finally taking his hand back to himself, his green eyes lingering on Annabelle who knew well just how deep Berdini's pockets were when it came to these matters. She was one of his favorites and clearly he was one of hers.

"Well gentlemen, if you're finished with your tea would you care to escort me on a walk. The gardens are so very pretty this time of year." Annabelle said in her soft, sultry voice as she smiled at the pair of men, offering each of them one of her arms.

Berdini would immediately accept one of Annabelle's hand into the crook of his arm and he'd motion for Catch to do the same on the other side.

"We'd be honored to escort you Miss Annabelle. You do know how greatly I enjoy your company. My new friend here is still learning the ways of courting a woman, I do hope you wouldn't mind giving him some pieces of advice?" He offered. Everything all sounding on the up and up of course, despite the fact that at least two of the three of them knew exactly what was going on here.

Annabelle, no stranger to bashful men and men who were barely more than boys smiled at Catch obligingly. "Is that so? I've always found it pleasant to be around a gentlemen who has the sense to be quiet and watch while a lady is listening. Did the Councilor tell you I play the lute? You really must listen while I play, I do appreciate an attentive audience."

Annabelle. Catch quickly puts his cake in his mouth, and when she passes her painted, pretty eyes over him, Catch sees that Berdini-adoration as his own, seizes it, blossoms under it. "I love g-g-gardens," he will tell her, that boy's shyness unable to banish itself from his throat, though he tried to lift his head, did his best to mimic Stefan's smooth, lordly movements. He is not done with his tea, and his mismatched eyes linger guiltily on it, torn between obeying and following, as he was clearly meant to do.

A figure of speech. Perhaps that was it. Catch slips his shy arm against his hip, feeling her small hand rest there, his eyes lingering on her face, her hair, the pretty glimmer of her dress, and none of her assets. Listening is not one of his strong suits, and it tells, for just as she speaks her appreciation, he shakes himself a little, trembling under her palm just as he had trembled under Berdini's.

"Oh! Y-y-yes. I am a, a g-g-good listener. And - and I do so w-w-want to be a gentleman, a Mister." Then that fear would turn to jealousy. They would no longer turn their heads away, or cover their eyes with their fans, or scream, or ask him to leave. He would be smiling assurance. He would have all the Annabelles on his arms, just like this, and they would have their hands on him, just like this, and their faces would be envy. Unable to ignore.

"I love m-m-music," he says, latching onto the mention of lutes, and says nothing of bards. Poor Berdini! He might as well not exist, but Catch is a single-minded thing, and Annabelle was more immediate. "I love singing. C-c-could I - could I lay in your lap, wh-wh-while you play? J-j-just a little." Had he spoken out of line? Now, Catch's face darts to Ser Stefan, brows twisted in worry. He regrets not bringing his cap, now, to help hide the thick-seamed scar.

Annabelle laughed softly, her voice like music in itself. Perhaps that was part of why Berdini favored her so much. She could easily have been a singer, or a performer rather than a teahouse girl, but perhaps that was the point. The women who worked in the teahouse were there of their own will. It was a life they chose, not one they suffered.

"Of course you may." She said with a soft tone in her voice. "I would like that very much. Not everyone has time for my music."

She'd lead the pair outside then, winding through a garden before they moved for the staircase that would lead to one of the rooms upstairs. There Catch would have his fill of music and watching, and Berdini would happily sacrifice his own interests in favor of helping his new friend learn the rules of the teahouse.
