A Lazy Afternoon

"Aloisius?"

"Mmph?" comes a wheeze from a half asleep Treadwell to his inquisitive wife, who is checking in on the snoozing toymaker-politician before supper. He rouses in his rocking chair, having nodded off by a fire at home with a half-finished carving of a duck on his stomach.

"I did not think you would want to miss a meal asleep in your chair."

"Miss--of course not! Is it ready yet? I, mmph, smell nothing, Love."

"Of course not!" Alice snorts back in the same whuffy huff.

"Then let me sleep a little longer, hrm hrm!"

"With an unfinished toy at your lap and a knife in your hand?" These two things are taken and set atop the fireplace nearby. "Now! I would not have your brother be the last of you Treadwells because you stuck yourself with a blade in your sleep."

"Well, mmph mmph, Lang would make a fair husband in my stead, hm, if he had to take my place."

"Oh, shush!" Alice gives her husband a jab of finger to stomach. "And what would I do with all of your clothes that no one in Myrken, even Langley, can fit?"

"Hmph! Sell 'em for bed sheets! Now, Dearest, my nap?"

"I ought to just let you sleep through supper, hrm, for all the trouble you are tonight."
"Looks like a table to me. Do you think it could hold up someone as bulbous as Treadwell?" -- Dr. Brennan, Myrken Wood Rememdium Edificium
