"Cult?"..

She pounders this word as well with a gentle smile. She thinks he means to shutter her with the word, and its possible dire conitation. It bothers her not, it is but a word..Wrongly place but a word none the less..

"I do not believe in this instance you are using that word properly...."

A heavy breath as she studders at the thought she just correct the Governor. But for her faith...for her Fate, she continue..

"The term cult, carries a variety of meaning defined and molded around religion. In some aspects all religious followings are cults in their own right. Though I beleive you choose this time to use the word to invoke fear. Which I cannot disagree when it is also tied to our now deceased teacher Sin'Vraal. "

"I beleive though it is wrong for you to blanket the Family under his fraudulance. For in truth, we were as much fooled by his true motives as all of you were. But here is where your terminology faulters. Because the being known as Sin'Vraal taught us for a time, and walked amoungst us as well.. We did not revere him as a devine leader, we did not.... Worship him...Nor any devinity...

"Though I suppose do to our unorthodox living style as it were, that could vaguely lie under the definition you seek. Though monks live an unorthodox lifestyle, and I have yet to here them label as cultist.."

Looked at him...ready for anything from wild laughter, to imprisonment..

Calomel listens patiently throughout this exploration of terminology, features neutrally polite, allowing the schoolteacher to say her piece before shaking his head lightly.

"I fear I must disagree. I am using the word quite correctly. The Violet Dawn is an organisation that uses religious trappings and manipulation of the natural desire for belonging to bind its members as closely to the organisation as possible, often to the detriment of the individual's relationship with non-members." His tone is pleasant enough, quite matter-of-fact as he explains his reasoning.

"For example, in referring to yourselfs as a family, you deny that which links you to your true families - relatives by blood, friends, neighbours, the wider community. That sort of thing is what marks you as a cult." A light shrug, then, hand raised to forestall any protest that might be made at such words. It would appear that he has more to say.

"Admittedly in a lot of cases such links were lacking among those invited into the cult, which is why they were so delighted to find a body of people which offered such a sense of fellowship, of common purpose and mutual support. Also, I am given to understand that many of those who joined were in what might be termed difficult circumstances - the poor, the crippled, the starving, and so forth - who were unable to fend for themselves, who lacked the support of their community, and thus felt abandoned, ignored and forsaken by the authorities and by society as a whole. This was precisely the tactic employed by the Order of the All, drawing its membership from those without hope, without a centre to their lives, seeking to place itself there instead.

"To say that it is regrettable that people could fall into such misfortune is, of course, an understatement. Your cult provided them with a new community into which they were welcomed with warmth and acceptance, where they could feel like they had a place, a purpose, and where those around them would treat them as one of their own. That they found respite from it in the Violet Dawn is not, in itself, a bad thing. However, what is a bad thing is that your, ah, teacher could seek to prey upon such misfortune, such desperation in support of his own agenda." Cool grey eyes upon the schoolteacher, expression calm but gaze watchful.

"Setting aside debates about whether the Violet Dawn is or is not a cult, the core of the matter lies there: that regardless of what good might have been worked in the lives of those who joined the cult - and I do not deny that there has been some good come of it - all of that has been to further Sin'Vraal's own schemes, rather than through any true philanthropy or altruism on his part. And that is why we have viewed your cult's activities with suspicion, why we took measures to remove from your influence those who might be vulnerable to it. Not because we hate or despise those who belong to the Violet Dawn, but because as a puppet of Vraal's will, the the cult cannot be trusted. Not even when it wears a most seemly mask of charity and public-spirited benevolence, as Vraal himself did." Fingers untwine, palms setting flat on his desk. Quite serious in this, quite determined that this young lady should understand his reasoning.

"So. What gives you the impression that we were at all fooled as to Sin'Vraal's true motives?"

He gave her the curtisey of not interrupting, so of course she returns it. Listens to his own logic, seen from his view point. In some ways neither are wrong. they were simply seeing the situation from different view points.

Once he was done though...She smile, takes a moment to gather in what he has said..

"You are right.....In that we could debate the theology of the Violet Dawn and never come to an agreement. Though I suppose we could do the same about a lot of religions that our practiced openly and are not label as cult. Of course I am in no way insinuating that the Dawn in a Religion. though it is a belief. It is Not a belief in a thing or a being...It is a belief in one self."

"Whatever Sin'Vraal plans were for us, I do not know. I was not his confidaunt, nor do I believe he had one amoungst us. I think we can agree on this one point though. He brought us together, found us as you say. To further a rouse. That being that he was a charitiable and kind person, who wished only to do good in Myrken. We both know that he was not..."

A pause, as she flashes to the night when Vraal and the Ashfiend clashed, she was there. She saw....

"But you are wrong in you assumptions towards my Family. It is true blood does not ties us together. But I do not believe a blood line is needed for a family to exsist. All that is need is love. Love and a want to help and care for one another. that is what we have done for each other. Many of us have lost everything there was to lose. Yet some still have family out there...."

A smile there, as she tilts her head towards him..

"Another point were your assumptions have failed you, the childern of the Dawn have not severed any links to those of the greater community. In fact since the news of Sin'Vraals deviance, some have left. Stronger now, healthier in body and mind. they have left to seek out their true familes. You may be surprised to know Governor, but many of the Dawns Childern are not native to Myrken."

"they are from Derry, from Heath...From as far away as Xanath Grange. They decided it was time to leave and we bit them fair well and safe journey..."

"you see Governor Calomel, Family is the most important thing to the Dawn...and you need not worry, I never had the impression you were fooled by anything, though even now I am not sure as to what Sin'Vraal true motives were, perhaps you may enlighten me?"

"Perhaps I may. But then, perhaps his true motives are no longer relevant, hm? Or perhaps any explanation of such would be viewed as some sort of cruel joke, some vicious slander upon Vraal and the Violet Dawn so that I might be painted as the villain, the oppressor. I think I shall decline such an invitation, thank you." He offers a light shrug, a hand waved to set the matter aside.

"In any case, while it is diverting to debate matters of terminology or to argue the particulars of the Violet Dawn's operations, I must apologise for so distracting you from the reason for your visit. I presume there was something specific you wished to see me about?" Though his tone is polite and his expression remains genial, the hint is clear enough. He is, after all, a busy man.

"Governor, I doubt very much you need me to paint you the villain." Her words slipped from tongue with a coy curve as she meets him with a steady gaze.

"But although this pleasantry is enjoyable, you are correct in summizing that I have a specific reason for seeing you." A pause brief, as she order thoughts and words, into a way that he might understand her reasoning.

"You spoke earlier of how we of the Dawn are not family of blood. But many of us have such ties somewhere in the world, at least.... That is my hope. Especially were the young ones are concerned. I want allowance, and if possible assistance in finding any and all family member of the childern who reside in the Orphanage. I know from my time with them, that some are not from Myrken, so there is hope of cousins. Aunts..Uncles.."

"I think if there is one thing we can agree on in this. It is that, no child should be an Orphan...If we can prevent. It would be some light in this dark time."

Now...she waits...

"Ha, very droll. Have you ever considered a career on the stage? There's this charming little troupe that performs by the road outside the town wall. Actually, no, never mind." He waves the matter aside, little time for such petty barbs. He listens as she speaks, an expression of well-mannered attention throughout. Hm.

"Given that the children are residing at the Orphanage, that would seem to imply that they have nowhere better to stay - surely if they had families with whom they might live they wouldn't be residing at the Orphanage in the first place? Simply because these orphans might have family members still alive is by no means guarantee that it might be appropriate for them to live with them." Well, it's an obvious enough point. The Orphanage is really an alternative to a life as a street urchin, representing the last resort for those waifs lacking any other means of support. Unless...

"Unless, that is, you believe these children were placed in the Orphanage despite having families with whom they might have been able to stay? Such a situation reflects very poorly upon the Violet Dawn, miss. Have you made no efforts to see these children reunited with their families before now? If not, one might wonder why you wish to suggest this course of action only now, when you had ample opportunity to engage in such a search previously." Really, it's all rather puzzling. "Indeed, the question of how these unfortunates might have found their way to an orpahange in Myrken from whichever far-flung locales they originate is a rather intriguing one - it's not as if Myrken Wood has such a shortage of orphans that there is a need to import them, surely. But you were probably not privy to such information at the time, so it's not a question worth asking at this point." A light shrug at that, dismissing the point and moving on.

"Very well. You have the children's names already, no doubt, having worked so closely with them for so long. Births and deaths are a matter of public record, so that information shouldn't be too hard to find, within Myrken at least. Just names of living kin should be fine for now, and once they have been identified we can have officials explore whether these relatives might be able to provide better living conditions than the Orphanage. I look forward to reading your report on these investigations in, shall we say two weeks?" A firm nod at that, the matter apparently settled. "In the meantime, thank you for volunteering, and good luck in your efforts."

A brief but approving smile at that, and he moves to reclaim his pen and pull the next sheaf of paper from the tray on his desk. Lots of paperwork to get through, lots of reports to read. There's a pause as he glances up, perhaps somewhat puzzled to see the young lady still sitting there, waiting.

"Please, don't let me keep you." Polite, but as clear a dismissal as one might want. After all, the Governor is a rather busy man.

Imply..the word held so much, it almost made her spit. But she was to polite...She only smiled and nodded. Rising to stand she drapes her cloak over her shoulders once more.

"To imply, slides one so close to assumption. Both rarly hold truth within...I know you have no faith, but I promise you Governor Calomel. When I am finished. They will all have some one to call family...."

With that she turns and departs...
