Winds of Change

Corporal...Captain? He wasn't sure yet. But one thing was for sure: Thomas Daniels marched down the back streets of Myrkenwood, trailing the two guards who had just been the governor's bodyguards - and who were now his jailors.

There had been a gathering outside of the meetinghouse to witness them leaving, much to Thomas' dismay. He wasn't quite sure if he wanted the news of the governor being escorted to the Gaol out yet - he wasn't sure what it would cause. But there may very well be some benefits - some of the words spoken at that meeting hinted that much of the public was angry at the governor, for whatever reasons. Perhaps the rumor of his jailing - which would certainly circulate quickly, whether from the crowd outside of the meetinghouse - Alexi Rose among them - or the people who watched the four pass by out their windows. Back streets were certainly *less* crowded, but it did not make them empty.

The new gaol was not nearly as bad as the previous - people being held their pending investigations could actually be somewhat comfortable, or at least as comfortable as one could be behind bars. At least the cells were clean, this time around. Hopefully well lit. Relatively warm, compared to the previous building. It was the governor's new home, for the time being - one that somebody was not about to burn down, at least.

Gad Phuri's jaw had swelled considerably since Joseph O'Cynen knocked him over with the single, abrupt punch. It had certainly shocked everybody in the room. He had asked for a doctor, and Thomas would get him one. Once he saw to it that he was safely tucked away, he sent for the closest doctor he knew of at the Edificium. He was aware there were three working there, now. That would hopefully mean the place was active at all times, the doctors taking shifts. A place like that needed to be running at all times.

With one of the guards of getting a doctor, Thomas Daniels left for the Barracks. The events of the meeting were pretty strange. He'd learned quite a bit - confusing or not. But one thing seemed pretty unanimous, pretty clear - it was his job, now.

Giscard has asked him if he was capable of delivering the miracles Myrkenwood needed.

Thomas has answered truthfully, with, quite simply,
"I hope so."

Thomas Daniels decided not to waste any time waiting for 'official' announcements. It was fairly clear at the meeting - he was now captain. The governor had called him captain. He realized the lieutenants would be rightly pissed - but he didn't care. Not now. They didn't *need* that now. Most of all.

He found that Lieutenant Kilborn had already dealt with the bodies. Thomas was thankful for that. He'd also recalled those on patrol - he'd have to speak with the lieutenant on that one. As far as things were going, though, it may not be a bad decision. They'd have to wait and see. But Daniels didn't want to wait and see. That would mean only more death.

There was one specific matter to his mind - the Baie. Bring down the Baie, surely the townsfolk of Myrkenwood would respond. Two birds with one stone. Of course, that was easier said than done - but he *did* have some information. Just enough that could, perhaps, entail bringing down the beast.

Thomas Daniels left the Barracks to speak with Joseph O'Cynen.

* * *

He had brought with him three guards of the Order of Straka: Corporal Robert Sullivan, who, like himself, had been pending a promotion for over a month now - whenever the captain planned a promotion ceremony, something always tried to kill him - Private Janis Williams, and Lieutenant Steven Miller. Thomas was grateful that Lt. Miller had no opposition to his promotion to captain - and he made sure the lieutenant knew that.

That made a party of four to visit the councilor. He had brought along the three to guard Joseph O'Cynen. It would seem that the Baie had targeted him specifically, if they could take the monster's own words to mean anything. The three he had thrown together were an excellent balance - Miller was a marksman with a bow, Williams had plenty of training in the arcane arts, and Sullivan, if anybody could keep the monster at bay at least long enough for the others to fire what they could and run. The corporal had brought along the odd sword, unbeknownst to him called 'Howler'. He decided something a little abnormal would be required of the situation.

These three were for protection, only, at the moment. After his talk with Joseph O'Cynen, Thomas could decide whether or not his next course of action would be a valid one. Patrols hadn't worked, mobs hadn't worked, and it seems everyday diligence of the Order of Straka hadn't worked. So Daniels had something planned a little differently, this time. He had a trap in mind to slay the monster.
