Deep within the darkened cells..

Deep within the darkened cells..

There was much to do, much to attend to, now that the plan had fallen into place, before the weekend's event. The Gaol was its usual noisy and busy place, but there was a thickness in the air that wafted of things to come. Quite unknown to outside sources however.. it was a hushed, but heavy internal fog.

Coins were passed from hand to hand, as well as small crumbled pieces of parchment, containing scribbled letters, never seen by regular eyes. Words were not muttered. Guards remained mute, as well as the elite who came to dish out their wealth. Pockets were emptied, in the hopes of becoming fatter, later.

Her blue eyes watched the musings around her with curious wonder, and her heart quickened at the thought of what was to come. The choice was not an easy one, but the pay off was big. Just the thought made her palms grow clammy and her forehead bead with perspiration. It wasn't going to be an easy decision, and the wrong one, could definitely delete her life savings. However, the correct one, would boost the guard up on the scale of the rich, which caused her to daydream happily.

She'd heard the new one was much stronger than the first. But the other had the experience, and the stamina. Not to mention, the inspiration. For he had lost one of the greatest of gifts that all mankind has, and perhaps would do anything to get it back. But, wouldn't they all?

Thankfully, the investigator had gotten caught. Snooping men didn't belong around here, sniffing at their heels like a stupid, drooling bloodhound. She thought the best would be to have him hanged in a large, old oak tree at night, when nobody would witness the crime. But that was just her opinion. Perhaps he should be left out there until the sun fell upon his dangling body to show the others that sticking their noses where it wasn't wanted would only end in death. This caused a dark smile to cross her lips. Too bad it wouldn't happen.. one could hope...

An angry yell from her 'boss' pulled the woman guard from her reverie and she hustled back to her duties.. She'd make her choice later.. before the weekend came. It'd have to be a carefully thought out vote. Her future balanced on the outcome.
