The Lady, filled with poise and honor, found it very difficult not to let the moment drop into crass humor and obvious innuendo. Glenn had much the same problem, it seemed, since he looked as if he were attempting to swallow his tongue. She cleared her throat instead of offering any reply.

Gloria's comments were made with a passive, dull-witted smile and a compliment to them both. Egris' eyes slanted over to Glenn and then heavenward. Her opinion on his response was obvious. She watched as Gloria left the two of them to wait, likely impatiently, outside the tavern. The two pillars of politics came together, arms clasped with familiarity. Her head bent towards him as if they were sharing secrets. "I do not enjoy this act that you're playing, Burnie," she rumbled - her voice terse despite the false smile upon her features. "As far as I know, our last argument did not claim your manhood. Grow some teeth or you will be useless to me and I will shackle you in some tower to be rescued," she goaded.

She blinked, startled, when he drew her a little closer to his side. Just a little rougher than he, perhaps, intended. She glanced sidelong at him with a glint in her eyes, the flat of his sheathed blade against her thigh. "Mind your sword, Burnie. I have no need for it," she remarked, unable to let the opportunity pass her by again. "Nor your tongue," she added, seeking to drop a quick peck to the planes of his cheek. She was safe in her teasing - Glenn never reciprocated. He'd made a vow.

Toothless.

Gloria was gone and the two of them, if not alone, were close together and intimate, without others to immediately hear, certainly without Gloria to immediately here. It offered a few, scant, moments for secrets and whispers; such things would not be unexpected between two so close, after all. "Not my sword, nor my tongue?" He tsked a little, shaking his head. There were things he could say, things that might bring shock to even her expression, cold iron that she was, but he did not. Instead, the smile was so laconic, so easy. "It must be my company that you yearn for then, my lonely tiger."

That wasn't the sort of truth this moment allowed though. His smile dropped, as did his tone. She knew this, saw it now and again, knew it to be genuine in a way that Gloria Wynsee could never accept. "You are beautiful, the both of you, and both in the same way. You care. In the face of this morass that we trudge through every day, you care enough, her to lose color in her cheeks and you to gain it, two people from such disparate lives, from different worlds, brought together here, bound together here, and who have come to care about a place and a person enough to have your hearts moved. That is beautiful, Egris, and I find my pulse quickening in the face of it."

"Lonely? I do not lack for company." If anything, she would enjoy a little solitude from time to time. Though, she understood that he was not talking about those who needed things from her. Few sought her out for companionship without an alternative motive in mind.

She smiled as he spoke of their beauty. "Don't ruin this moment with honesty, Glenn," she chided.

The door closed behind them.

Setting a drink down on the bar before a patron, the serving girl who had delivered the letter to Gloria watched the three of them leave out of the corner of her eye. The Lady Warden's words, while spoken in a conversational tone to the people nearest her, had nonetheless found their way through the chatter and clink of glass and scraping on pewter to her trained ears:

"To the Floating Dragon."

Fascine grinned to itself, pulling a rag from its belt and running it across the polished wood of the bar top while relaying the information through the Bond. It could almost feel its leader's smile through the link, her cool fingers pressing against its cheek in admiration of its efforts.

A wonderful job as always, my pet. Clean up any messes you've made and return to my side at once. I have a special assignment for you.

Ignoring patrons who called for more drinks, it folded the rag over its belt and made its way through the backdoor of the tavern to retrieve the barmaid's body from where it was hidden and dispose of it, a smile on its pretty, stolen face.
