For the Chairwoman's Eyes

For the Chairwoman's Eyes

The missive was delivered by a young child, written on a scrap of plain parchment with no embellishments and no signature.

Chairwoman River,

I think its best to inform you that Councilor Treadwell is not as he appears to be. In truth, he is a monster with the shape of some giant, gluttonous slug, intent on eating everything. He can be forced to reveal this form in times of great stress.

If you do not believe me, ask Zilliah or Catch.

Let us be honest, her mother would say. When the world pushes against you, you must push back.

A slug he may be, Agnieszka thinks, but slugs are easily crushed, out in the garden. And aren't we all monsters, inside?

Nevertheless, she thanks the letter-writer as she crushes the paper in her fist. She'll just have to keep Treadwell de-stressed, that's all. How hard can that be?
