Waiting for the Other Side of the Storm

Joseph O'Cynen was out on the fields, like he was everyday. From sun up to sun down, unless some council matter popped up. The private assigned to him had brought him a notice - a relatively large one, accounting for much of the past week's doings. Some of which he already knew, but some was new. He paused in his work, pressing the shovel into the ground and leaning on it.

Hmm. Well then.

It meant that he and Giscard were the only remaining council members at the current point in time. No governor present, no third councilor, and the fourth was dead. Lovely.

Joseph frowned, handing the note back to the private. There were three of them, at least two always nearby. A private, a corporal, and a lieutenant. They were there for signs of the Baie, of course - of which there had been none, as of late. Naturally unsettling.

But he could only wait. The captain's plan seemed sound enough; the entire part about getting the Baie's appearance was relatively luck, though. They didn't have any idea what triggered the beast, or how it would react to O'Cynen. Only one thing was known, and not even for sure - it wanted the farmer.

The shovel was pulled back from the ground, and he continued shoveling away at the ground. How's it feel to want? the councilor thought to himself.
