Fred is Hardly a Proper Name for a Lady

Fred is Hardly a Proper Name for a Lady

Life was so very busy for the knightly youth Elliot Gahald. There was training all morning, work all day, and Rhaena Burnie's parties all night. There was time spent with Cherny in his training, with Rhaena herself, with Nova, and of course with Miss Noura. There was the mystery of Catch and there was the ever-lingering presence of the Witch. Life was a whirlwind but he managed as best he could, he managed nobly, making the very best of every situation.

To be able to come downstairs, in his fine clothes in the middle of the afternoon, and be able to just sit down and have a glass of milk. Well, that was a rare thing, but thanks to another rare thing, an afternoon without other responsibilities, he could do just so. He walked down the stairs now, whistling a rousing tune. It was a little bit rude, of course, but then he didn't expect anyone here at this time of day.

The woman, or maybe man, sitting at the bar didn't seem to be bothered by the whistling. Still covered in Carpenter's dust Fred was sitting, leaned over her meal, packing away bite after bite. At first glance it'd be almost impossible to tell if she was male or female as she was wearing a man's tunic and pants, her dark hair all tucked up in the cap that she hadn't bothered to remove for her meal.

She looked up from her food briefly for the whistling before she returned to it again. She didn't know the boy and he didn't know her, which seemed to be the way people around here seemed to keep things. At least he wasn't in a dress.

It was a shame she wasn't in a dress.

A dress would have brought out her eyes nicely. She didn't know him, though, and he didn't know her and that was so refreshing. It meant there would be no necessarily talk of the Witch's curse and no questioning of him and who he used to be. Elliot, handsome and friendly and smiling, started on towards her. She seemed a handy sort, the salt of the Earth, and while he would prefer someone a bit more dignified manner and attire, he was always happy to meet someone new.

"Hello, may i join you?" It was probably the most earnest, friendliest question she'd ever been asked in Myrken.
