Come the morning of June first, one of the town criers belts forth a special little message.

"'ello ever'one in Myrk Woooooooood! It's a speeeeeecial day t'day! Counc'lor Tready--His Fatness, His Fluffiness, His Big-Bellied Honor!--is a year older 'is fine mornin'! The old coot says 'e's seen a good sixty years, now, an'--an' I'm a-sayin' 'is, 'ere--ye all know 'e's jus' getting bigger wi' each one! 'e can't afford t' get much older!"

There would be a pause, as if in consideration, and then that same simple country voice resounds once again.

"An' in other news, one o' the folks 'ere jus' put up a guessin' game! 'ow many birthday cakes is Tread'ell gonna eat today by 'isseeeeeeeelllllf?" With a chortle and a chuckle and a tittering with glee, the town crier goes to looking for his other announcements.

However, before it could pounced and engorge itself, it had been caught by Treadwell's faithful wife and decked out in a clown-like vest and a birthday hat. The lemur was not at all amused...
