Sabrion escorted his beloved home, and even laid beside her as they began to drift off into sleep. However, as soon as her eyes closed and her breathing became the deep breath of sleep, he dragged on his leather armor and sneaked out for the night.
He lay down in the grove where he and Sam had first kissed, staring up into the dark and clear evening sky. Even the stars seemed dimmer now for all the stress the bard was under. He lay for a moment pondering it all as a silent figure approached unbeknown to the blue bard.
"Sabrion? Is there a free spot of grass available for an old elf to rest his bones?" Spoke the dragon knight Ikari. "Aye, there is," Sabrion didn't know if this land belonged to anyone... As far as he was concerned it belonged to everyone and no one. Ikari laid down beside the bard, "You seem diminished as of late Sabrion, is there something on your mind?"
Sabrion stared at the red clad elf for a moment, "Aye... I'm supposed to be proposing to Samariah again sometime soon.... and..." He was cut off by his former comrade in arms, "Sabrion has a girl?" Ikari chuckled, "Well well, I stay away for a few weeks and already you've found someone.... Congradulations..." Ikari then turned back to face him, "So... you're having doubts eh?"
Sabrion took a deep breath, "Yes... but not about her," Goddess no... he would never have doubts about his feelings for her. "But this time I have to ask her grandfather..."
"And you don't know if he'll accept you.." Ikari finished for him."Aye..."
"Well if it gets to be a problem, you should just elope..." Ikari said with a sage-like nod. "But, Samariah and I like it here, and I'm pretty sure she has no intention of leaving..." Sabrion said, although it wouldn't be hard for either of them to run off with little notice, this had become home to them, Would they really have to if it came down to it? Sabrion decided to press for some precedent to the matter. "What about you Ikari? Have you ever been engaged?"
Ikari's face was almost a stare of shock. He hadn't expected this one, his eyes, usually a glowing blue, became a glistening yellow, in semblance to the shock he bore on his face. "Aye, that I have... however... it was her father that forbade our wedding, but he only did so because he didn't want his daughter around the dragons, and us dragon knights."
Sabrion nodded, "Aye... well what happened?" Ikari stared at the bard, "well... my hometown was destroyed a few weeks after our engagement. And I haven't seen her since..." Ikari's voice trailed, and Sabrion started to apologize.
"Don't worry about it old friend," Ikari said, his voice wasn't sad, "She wasn't there when it went up, I know this, we've just gotten a little sidetracked is all... We'll be reunited soon enough..."
Sabrion nodded, "So how long have you two been apart?"
"Ten years," the look of awe on the blue bard's face was priceless, "I know it seems like a long time to you Sabrion, but you have to remember, to use elves, it is more like a year to you." Ikari chuckled, time was just a toy to some of the elder races, only the humans he'd met would take it so seriously. "Now I'm not the best model of an effective union Sabrion, so you must realize that you have to do what you can. As far as her grandfather however.. Just mind your manners and try to keep calm... and everything should work out for you."
Sabrion nodded to the end of this, "Aye, I suppose it will..." A slight drift at the end of his speech. Ikari quirked an eyebrow, "Sabrion... just answer a few questions for me... First off... do you love this girl... your Samariah?"
"Aye, beyond all doubts."
"Then what else matters?", Ikari said, the blunt force of that statement hitting the bard like a wall. 'What else matters?' He repeated internally, and nodded. "Aye... I suppose nothing then... Thank you Ikari." The blue bard rose to his feet and made his way back into town, back into the arms of his Samariah. "Aye and good evening to you Sabrion," Ikari said as the blue bard took his leave. "He'll be alright." Ikari shrugged, and began to drift on the grass.
