To the honorable Councilor Altias Bromn:

While I have no information pertaining to the assault of a woman by the name of Alexi Rose, I would like to note that the accused - the boy Phlynn - is, from what I've concluded, is quite capable of doing as much and possibly worse.

While Cpl. Sullivan and I were apprehending the accused, his demeanor was strikingly odd to a degree that suggests insanity. I'm of the opinion, judging from past experience, that insane people are generally capable of anything.

Not to mention the child's freakish claw-like fingers, which could easily be used as weapons. We were fortunate enough that the boy went under some kind of...trance, perhaps? Again, I think the boy to be insane.

I'm not sure what good it does, but I feel you should have the information anyway. I hope your investigation goes off without a hitch.

The girl had gotten little sleep, first speaking with the Captain on the subject of the boy, then slipping into the evening to find the herbs she needed to create the govenor a tea she did hope would help his afflictions with Springtime.

It had been only on a wander through town that she had seen the notice at all, and a weary glance had her moving to the nearest place she could exchange coin for brief usage of ink and a sheet of paper.

Councilor Altias,

As I spoke with you within the confines of the Broken Dagger, I am still willing and quite able to attend any meetings upon this entire matter.

I am unsure if it has been expressed to you, but the boy in question, Phlynn, has made it known to my ears, and that of another, that he wishes a trial to be held.

As before, I can be given missives both at the mercenary camp where the Grey Lancers are stationed and with Pritchard at the Broken Dagger. Also, Captain Taliaferro may be willing to ensure I receive any notices you may feel to send requiring my presence.

In faith,

Lamai Carver

Official titles and such were, as usual, left out. It had only been for Phuri himself that she had bothered, and it had gone over like a lead rock. Of course, that *man* was little more than a rock, but political circles weren't the ones she truely wished to start dancing in, so it was of little matter in the long run.

The letter, as it was, was sent on its way to the Councilor.

The warm bathwater kneaded at his muscles as he relaxed into the large tub. Candles were scattered throughout his bathing room, and the scent of vanilla and cinnamon intermixed and mingled togethor - creating a blissful aroma inside of the room.

Next to the bed was a young woman, dressed in a golden, silk gown with a writing board and parchment, as well as quill. As Kanashia spoke, she wrote on the paper.

"Dear Altias,

I was vehemently against the actions of Phlynn at the start of this, but as time as gone by and words been exchanged, my opinion on the matter has changed. While I once supported Alexi Rose's orphanage, I now only support the idea of constructing one; this no means places her in a position to run it. Phlynn, and you know this to be true, is not the only child that is either afraid or hostile to Miss Rose.

I went to speak to the boy personally in the Gaol with the young Lamai, and we both see the want to live in those eyes; though they stare out from the face of the dead. To say he is harmful to Alexi Rose is by no means a lie, and yes, he is. To say he is harmful to others is also true. However, to say that he will act on this is not altogethor true. We are both powerful men, Altias, and we both are in a position to be harmful to people. Does this mean that we will be or are? No. Just because the option is there, does not mean we have to take it. The same with the boy.

I am in strong support of Phlynn's trial, and he will defend himself. I am sure it will be fair, and if I must -- I will ensure fairness by my own hand. There is no reason the boy does not deserve much, but there is those out there who are against him. Who wish to hurt him. We both know, Altias, that he is vampire."

-- Writing ceased as the girl looked up to Alexander with a look of surprise, but he gave her a reassuring smile and nod. Her expression softened again, and resumed writing.

"This does not mean he is fatal to all mankind. Do not believe I support vampires, I am vehemently against the foul creatures and have been forced to kill many of them during my time with the Thessilane army, and on my own travels and business. They are cunning creatures; however, this cunning creature is trapped in the mind of a child. I have mixed feelings on this, if you can't already tell, my good friend.

If the verdict is guilty, and he is sentenced to death then the boy will be free from his misery. To enjoy the afterlife in the splendid glory that an innocent child should. It's not easy to say that death, at times, can be the best solution for some things. This option can not be overlooked, pushed to side, or made believe that it is not there. It is always there. In this case, it may actually show its ugly head.

If the verdict is innocent, and he is freed, then I would hope that he is exiled from Myrken. He can still be with his friends, or those that want to visit him, and continue to live with man. I have sworn to protect Myrken Wood, not the entirety of our good continent. Our civilians is my interest, and that's why I would feel safe with exile.

I do not have much information, only what Phlynn can offer himself, and that may be the best. Alexi Rose seems jaded on the boy, but Phlynn would not attack her for no reason. Neither a vampire nor a child would act out like that unless provoked.

I wish you the best of nights, Altias, and may your dreams be sweet."

The letter ended, and sealed with the wax of the vanilla candles.
I refuse to believe this is as good as it gets.

Testimony

Postby Rattrap » Sat Apr 12, 2003 7:16 am

A record of the events of Friday eve through early Saturday morning, recorded by Private Williams, addressed to Altias Bromn with a copy addressed to Captain Taliaferro:

This conversation underwent with individuals 'Dhugal', 'Aerithya Ty'ahel Silverwind', 'Angilena Tarek Holmes' if I heard correctly, and Corporal Thomas Daniels during a visit to see Phlynn, a child accused of two counts of murder still pending trial:

Dhugal: "Bluidy hell...cant they at least clean th' lad oop a bit?"

Myself: "Actually, I was on my way to doing just that when I found that the child had had some...uninvited guests. His relocation then became a priority. Since then...well, we have other things on our minds. I hate to sound ineffectual, but with some of our fellow guards simply not returning from patrols, the various vampire attacks throughout Myrken Wood as well as here...well. It's a tough time."

Phlynn (upon the group's approach to his cell; Cpl. Daniels was already present prior to our arrival): "A...Angie? Aeri, is that...you?"

Dhugal: "It's nay liek ya hae t' build a new gaol...just a boocket o' water, a bar o' soap, a towel and a new...whatever th' bluidy hell it is he wears..."

Silverwind (in response to my comment, addressing the uninvited guests): "Who?"

Myself: "An individual named Ahmed - Cpl. Thomas here and his partner had a run in with him before."

Holmes: "Phlynn...Phlynn...It's Trip...an' Angie..."

Silverwind: "Hello Phlynn, we brought you some things."

The things in question were some small items - wild flowers that were dethorned at the front lobby, and some folded parchment

Dhugal: "Ah. Aye. Ahmed."

Cpl. Daniels: "Do you know this Ahmed?"

Dhugal: "Ummm...a mickle but...we both had designs oon kil...ummm...reprimanding a certain lady th' oother eve..."

Phlynn: "I'm cold in here...I want to go home. I d-...don't like it here."

Cpl. Daniels (to Dhugal's slip of the tongue): "I'm sorry, say that again?"

Dhugal (to Phlynn, having ignored the request made by Cpl. Daniels - we both felt at the time the question prompted by Dhugal to the child Phlynn was more important than the request made by the corporal): "Phlynn...they say y' killed two children, lad...is tha' true?"

Phlynn (in his usually strange demeanor, addressing the gifts the two women had brought): "Those...are for me?"

Holmes: "We...we got you...a flower too. A glass one...Trip 'n me...thought ye'd like it...it'd never die...but the guards took it...but...we got you this, too."

Here she handed the boy the small piece of folded parchment, styled as such to resemble a dragon.

Phlynn: "I...love all of them."

Dhugal: "Answer th' question laddie...y' kill those two?"

Phlynn (again, ignoring the question, apparently addressing the small animal that traveled with Holmes, known as 'Trip'): "Is this...you, Trip?" (Finally, to Dhugal's questioning: ) "I...d-...did. But I had a reason to do it...they deserved it...I...guess they did. Because I failed, Dhugal."

Silverwind: "Why? Why Phlynn? Tell us why you did such a thing?"

Cpl. Daniels (to Phlynn): "Was your life in danger by those two?"

Phlynn: "I wasn't a good protector...I found them. They killed a boy who was my friend, and he didn't deserve to die. They both did. I didn't protect him like I *should* have...h-...he was a boy who made flowers. They...forced him to make flowers for them...and they threatened him with a knife, but he didn't understand. He wasn't much more than a baby...and then they stabbed him to death, and I found them trying to take my flowers."

Cpl. Daniels: "Dhugal...ask the boy if his life was in danger. It's critical that we know this. It'll make all the difference."

Phlynn: "So I...did my job. I protected the rest of the...children from them. I made sure they wouldn't hurt anyone else."

Dhugal: "It was a fae, wasn' it...they killed a fae?" (To Cpl. Daniels: ) "He killed them because they'd killed his friend."

Silverwind: "An eye for an eye."

Phlynn: "...yes, sir. And I was supposed to protect them. But I couldn't get there in time. I ran...and I ran and *ran*, but I didn't make it fast enough...they would've hurt the others. They found the others, and would have hurt them...but they're my friends."

Cpl. Daniels: "Vengeance doesn't make it right. An eye for an eye, as the miss said, will only make his all blind. But it doesn't sound like that was exactly the cause...protecting another against an aggressor...well, anything to shave off the blunt 'murder'. But is there any proof? Where are these 'fae'?"

Dhugal: "He had t' stop them before they killed th' oothers...y' heard him...if he ran f' help, th' fae would hae been deid before he'd fetched help for them."

Silverwind: "Phlynn, tell them. Tell them the truth lad. Do not be afraid. I shall see that they are safe."

Phlynn: "B-...but I can't tell anyone. Even if I die for it...it's my job to make sure they're all right. It's my job to make sure they're all right."

Cpl. Daniels (to Dhugal): "There are other ways to stop someone than killing them. Again - how do I trust the testimony of an obviously strange child?"

Holmes: "Fae are frail sir and quickly frightened. If the two mortal boys had attacked the other children..."

Dhugal: "I know a fae...quite weel...them boys tearin' oop pne o' their flower beds would kill them as surely as a blade across their throat." (To Holmes: ) "Are y' all right? Lassie?"

Cpl. Daniels (To the general testimony of the group): "Assuming this to be the truth, I understand what you're saying. But it doesn't excuse the crime - again, there are other ways to stop someone from doing something other than killing them!"

Phlynn (Finally responding to Cpl. Daniels, apparently): "But that's what I *did*! I *know* it was right! ...I don't care if anyone else thinks it w-...was wrong. It was my job...they tried to take flowers from my garden after, and Jaeval wouldn't want that...never ever. I did what I was supposed to. They would've hurt the others."

Dhugal: "He's a child, d' ye nae ken? They do nae think mooch...they react...y' ne'er seen a child throw a fit in grief or anger? They do nae stop t' reason things oot."

Cpl. Daniels: "That only means volatility. If we let out every criminal here who came to be here only because they didn't reason their actions out, there would be a lot more blood raining into the ground than there is already."

Dhugal: "But they're adults, aren't they? Theyve reached th' age o' reason...or so it's assumed...he's nae but a wee bairn himself...and he stood by his friends..."

Cpl. Daniels: "Not *all* of them."

Phlynn: "I'm...not telling them where the faeries are at."

Silverwind: "Phlynn, the child they killed...where is he? If they could see him, there is proof..."

Phlynn: "He's...where the faeries are. I'm not *telling* them, Aeri!"

Dhugal: "Phlynn...if they convict y' o' killin' th' boys...at best, they'll lock y' awa' for years...at worst...they'll destroy you...an' who then will protect y' fae friends?"

Silverwind: "They just need to see the child Phlynn so they know you speak the truth..."

Phlynn: "No one...but they won't need me...only those two boys knew where they were. If I die, then no one will ever know...and maybe that's how it should be...they won't see him. Not even if I...if I showed them. Do you think he just died *yesterday*?"

Silverwind: "Please Phlynn...tell them...Phlynn...please...let us help..."

Phlynn: "NO!"

Dhugal: "Fine...y' keep y' oon counsel...I' ask Vialweh if she can find it...I hae nae doobt she will suss out where th' fae an' th' body are..."

Phlynn: "I'm not telling! Go away! ...leave me alone, because I'm not telling!"

At this point I escorted Dhugal from the Gaol, but I'm sure Cpl. Daniels will add anything of importance I might have missed in his attached report.

Cpl. Daniel's Report

Postby Rattrap » Sat Apr 12, 2003 7:20 am

Addressed to Altias Bromn with a copy addressed to Captain Taliaferro, attached to Private William's transcript of the events of late Friday eve to early Saturday morning:

I am of the opinion, from what I've heard and from reviewing the transcript, that the boy Phlynn is an unnecessary risk to the populace of Myrken Wood. I was hoping it wouldn't be so...but, sadly, it is.

As you must know by know from reading the transcript, the boy's complete testimony lies on the defense of these 'fae'...but under the circumstances, the lack of proof and the boy's...I didn't want to agree with Cpl. Sullivan, but perhaps it's true...insanity, there just isn't any way we can really act on that. Even if the entire story were true, it would still not excuse the crimes committed.

I can only recommend three things for the boy: exile, death, or enough years spent inprisoned to learn reason, if the insane can learn reason. Frankly, I don't want to see Phlynn in the Gaol anymore. Exile and...well, even death...would do him good. At least in death he wouldn't have to worry anymore.

I realize we have no manpower to spare, but perhaps if we could secure a volunteer that might try to locate these 'fae' and find a body, we could at least begin believing the boy's testimony. Until then, I'm afraid...he's just a murderer. A confused, probably insane little boy murderer.

In a related, yet not topic...

Postby Rattrap » Sat Apr 12, 2003 7:47 am

Another report, filed by Cpl. Daniels, however unrelated to the investigation concerning Phlynn, to be aired out to the Order of Straka in general:

It has come under my attention that two individuals, indentified as 'Tyralor' and 'Alexi Rose' have assaulted and beat two other individuals, their identities to remain undisclosed until the two might be brought in for questioning, for their safety.

One of the victims happens to be a child, and judging from the wounds it was no small time 'playing around'. I hope everyone could be on the lookout for these two. They should be arrested if sighted.

The elf set down after the meeting with Phlynn in the gaol. She took parchment and quill, then began writing. Her words carefully choosen.

Dear Sir,

I was there when the attack was made, however I feel there was reasons behind such attack. I will not go into details of what I had witnessed and found out. The truth will be told before the courts. I feel Phlynn deserves a fair trial after hearing the confessions made from him upon visiting him in the gaol I must also state the condition I found hin in made me ill. Can there not be something done? He has not been placed a verdict of guilty upon him yet. He should not be treated like this. I beg you that you look into this matter as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Aerithya Ty'ahel Silverwind

The parchment folded and sealed, ready to be delivered. The elf made her way out the door carrying the letter in her hand.
