"Fine, we'll look at the book together. And if you want we can even tell Agnie that we're going to do it together. I will stand behind you and use you as a human shield, but I'll do the hard work." he was jovial enough, for Glenn, at least (Sometimes it was hard to tell these days). "The heavy lifting." And really, conversing with an angry Agnie was nothing but that.

"Three renewals." Burnie nodded. "I can work with that. We'll be slow about even giving him the sword. More than that, I am tempted to get him a little embroiled in Myrken business, not the most pressing sort, mind you, not Catch or Aeryn. What if we were to plant the sword upon Jirai and send him chasing after her, for instance." They could use a replica as well, something like that, or even just make it SEEM that way, but he wanted to hear what Aleksei thought first. "It's not his main priority but it's still something Roland would probably have to follow up with. Have it seem like your current injuries were caused by her. That sort of thing."

Freedom. Well, magical creatures should generally be bound, but at least the scholar's heart was in the right place. There was always room for compromise in such situations, except for, of course, when there wasn't. "Can't we hasten the end of her binding somehow? I'd love to set her free and set them chasing after her, somewhere far away from here, if we could manage it. Nothing can be so cut and dry. What would the cost be?"

See, Aleksei didn't need to have good ideas. Look at all the ones the Governor had. "We really ought to get back to Renea, you know. And then the rest. At least I know what your problems look like now. I can't even prioritize the others relative to yours as of yet."

Aleksei considers what Glenn says. He's silent, for longer than he intends. He shakes himself out of the reverie and sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose again, glasses being lifted out of the way while he does. "No, no. The fact I feel even tempted by this means I am starting to change, I will need more time in meditation to secure my mind." He pulls the sword, complete with scabbard from the loop and offers it, hilt first to Glenn. "We both can be difficult to find. I trust you to do what is right with it. That sword served me well for years, and I am sorry to lose it. I guess I will have to forge another. Materials will be a problem, I made one with runes and gave it to Agnie to fight Daemons."

Another sigh, as he considers the last of Glenn's questions. "I can free her whenever I like, actually. There are five seals. I can bind and unbind the first four at will, granting me more of her power. If I unbind the fifth, it frees her. Its never been done volentarily, so the side effects are unknown, which is why she agreed to wait till the end of my binding to go free. And I can't free her till this damned axe is gone, or I'll just turn into another Aeryn."

Renea, yes. A nice break in topic. "Her spirit is gone. There is still a.. vague connection. Something lingers, but its not there. I don't know how else to explain it. She's afraid, though."

"I'll make a decision what to do with it." Simply put. Framing Jirai seemed like as good an idea as any. It never ended well, no, but it was always terribly plausible and if it didn't end well for Roland, so be it. There were rumors she had been stirring once more and that meant he had to do SOMETHING. She'd feel neglected otherwise, and that'd end poorly for everyone. "Before we move on, i need some clarification on Aeryn's final fate. Did Agnie get that closure or might he return." Aleksei had said so much and the focus had turned so quickly upon him. "And how much of a threat are the gods now that you have part of them sealed within you? What do you think we need to do next?"

Obviously they couldn't free the creature yet then. "Could we make them think you've freed her. Send them after a false trail somehow?"

"Let's back up with Renea." This whole issue of spirits being gone were annoying. "First off, was she anything BUT spirit? She's not exactly the brightest candle I've seen. It's part of her charm and why she's such a good counter for Agony. Is she just wandering through life like a zombie now? And does this mean that Catch's associate HAS her spirit now? If that's the case, isn't she subject to some sort of magic through it. Can she still be trusted?" Yes, yes, she was afraid but there were bigger issues here.

He decides that Glenn will do what Glenn will do. He's voiced his objection to it and that is really all he can manage with the man at this point. He's frankly too tired to have an argument. He does consider the question of Aeryn for a moment, then just sighs and shrugs. "As far as I can tell, he's gone. His spirit might still be trapped inside the axe, I don't know. That is something I will have to explore more later. As to what to do? Find a way to banish it, or find a way for me to permanently trap it where it is. They are still a massive threat, Glenn. Even now, the axe whispers to me and tried to corrupt the being with in me. I could summon a second solar and set it a task to go hide in the mountains. I know the rituals. I'll just set it to expire when it sees Roland." Enslaving a creature of light to fight for you was never a good idea, really.

As for Renea, he just looks a little.. confused. "Somehow, she maintains herself as normal. She acts just like she did. I have no idea, if the person has any control over her. I have never encountered a spell like that before, Glenn. I'll do some research, though. For all I can tell, this friend of Catch's could see and hear everything she does. The question is.. would he care?"

"Well, good job killing Aeryn then." About time something had gone right; oh sure, Aleksei had taken the evil god doom within himself, but that was the sort of thing to be expected here in Myrken. You didn't have a victory here without horribly tainting yourself somehow. Really, he was just paying his dues, finally (because all of the wounds were just a warm up. It was the emotional and spiritual pain that really counted. You could get bloodied anywhere). "Just to clarify, and I will want this in a written report, of course, all of it. You can dictate to someone, granted: was there a body or not?" Because if there was no body, Aeryn wasn't dead. Another Myrken law. "Oh, and by the by, how is Agony taking all of this?"

Really, in some ways, Aleksei's personal issues were the most clear cut thing they were talking about here. Renea's situation, for instance, was an utter mess. "So basically we have no idea what's going on with Renea. You realize this is why I don't go around calling you archmage and investing in a very expensive pointy hat for you, Aleksei, right?" A long pause as he thought things over and then a shrug. "Renea might just be too bullheaded to allow something like that to bother her. Still, we'll have to send someone after this former ward of hers. I'm tempted to bother Cinnabar with it, since it's all tied in to the Catch situation. I'd rather not risk you in open magic combat considering your.. condition." A shake of his head. "I'll likely send a Constable first. In the meantime, and be blunt and honest about this; lives are at stake: do we need to strip Renea of her responsibilities?"

A light smirk at the faint back-patting. As for the question? "There were body.. parts. He exploded all over us. We burned them, just to be sure." Didn't want one to get up and run around, now did we? He reaches into the heavy cloak he still wears and pulls out that book, flipping it open and writing himself a note. "I'll have one to you by the end of the week. Fortunately, I can write equally well with both hands. Should I use a cipher?" Its not like that hadn't used code for messages before. He wasn't sure how careful Glenn wanted to be about all this. "Agnie is.. Agnie. She's hard for me to read. She plans on keeping an eye on me, of course. I'll use that to keep an eye on her." Fair enough trade. "Let me watch her for a little while, and see. I'll write you a report." Was he.. poking fun at the paperwork? Who knows. Aleksei is an odd beast, for sure. He still wasn't sure if the body-goo counted as a full blown body under the Myrken Rules of Being Dead, though.

"Renea is a disaster of epic proportions. I have never seen, nor read about, anything like this. It's totally new and alien to me. I am going to have her come by weekly for me to have a look at, and I'll monitor the situation. For now, I think if we move the change anything on her, it will just upset the balance she has found. No, if she was going to betray us, she has the perfect chance while fighting Aeryn. Catch and the demons are linked somehow, so if she was totally in his possession, she would have helped Aeryn. Let's leave well enough alone for now, I didn't let on to her there was anything wrong. No sense alarming her anymore. For all I know, her mental state could have an effect on the magic." Long winded, but it was a complicated question. He pauses to take another drink, while he considers Glenn sending someone after Catch's.. friend. Partner. Whatever. "Don't send anyone you like, then. From what I have been able to gather from Renea, this Jarod character has taken up residence near a giant hole in the ground up in the mountains."

"If you can manage the code with the other hand." Burning things. That's what they did here in Myrken. Karolinger deserved some more interesting defilement of his body. Devoured by feral dogs. That sort of thing, but they'd probably all just end up possessed and really, then they'd be dealing with beasts that were both more clever and smelled better than the homicidal pantsless arse. The governor nodded. "I want the whole thing in front of me, Aleksei. We've missed too much here. Nothing else can be allowed to slip, your resolve least of all. If and when I look at the book, it has to be without you. You're already tainted, no offense. I'll find some competent illiterate to second me." Could Niall read? She seemed to have a tendency to leap at dangerous things. It might be worth her trading barbs for a short while. "Most of all, we're moving forward as if the danger is not over. We have every reason to believe Aeryn wasn't the only one possessed. We need to smoke out whatever's left. Dealing with the book is probably the best way to do that. First, though, a full and formal report."

Then, back to the talk of Renea. "Aleksei, when it comes to Myrken's security, I can't just leave well enough alone. I'd rather trigger whatever's wrong with her, even if it means her death, than allow it to grow and be revealed at the worst possible moment and cause the death of many. From what I know of her, I'm sure she'd feel the same way. It doesn't mean we won't be careful, but we have to act somehow." Niall was already on his mind but she was too unpredictable. Calomel, on the other hand, was already tied to the Catch situation and had a certain immunity to match. Putting him at risk was always a shame, but the man would act unilaterally if not directed, and in some ways that was even more dangerous.

"No, you're right. I get the feeling the daemon wants me near that Book, and whatever it wants I don't." He gives a little sign and wipes is good hand across his forehead. Sweat. Was it hot in here? "It's.. heavy Glenn. But I trust you'll know when to end it if I can't hold on." A rueful smile at that. The chances he could hold on for a while were good. But every minute that passed, every hour and every day made it heavier and heavier. "I'm working on a plan. Hopefully I'll have it together enough to put in your report." Should be the end of that part, then.

"Force a confrontation with this Jarod first. Be warned, he could very well crazier than Catch. He's been at the heart of something humans are meant to see and hear. There is no telling how it has affected him. Get whatever you can, and bring it to me. I'll use it to get more information from Renea. Hopefully we can end this without burning down half of Myrken. I'm perfectly worthless right now. I will probably hide at home till I am healed, and hope I don't see Catch. Last time I killed one of these things, he tried to break my head open on a table. I was only tired then, not injured. If he finds me alone, he'll likely kill me." He figured sending someone after this Jarod would get him the missing pieces of the puzzle. There was something there they were missing. Something big. It was like trying to figure out what a jigsaw puzzle was with only the edge pieces.

"Oh stop it. You can't go from cheerful to fatalistic in the span of seconds. It's irritating and overdramatic for a man of science." Burnie seemed just a little put off. "If things are that dire, we'll fix it. I have a thought for it, anyway. I need to talk to Niall anyway. Her people have ways to encase things." Then the slightest of pauses. "If it becomes that much of an issue, I'm sure we'll just lock you in a room and you can unleash both the demon and your little angel and they can duke it out. Put simply, we're not losing you, especially not over something as obtuse as ancient thesshole gods. If we're going to lose you, it'll be because Agnie stabs you in a fit of stupidity or something along those lines. I know you're new to Myrken still, but we do have a certain way we do things around here. Or I suppose you could anger me and I could have you drawn and quartered. Not foreign gods though."

As for the rest with Catch and hiding at home, Burnie just shook his head. "I'll send someone competent and up to date on things. You realize after what you just said I'm going to have to give you a Constable escort for now, right? That'll be the height of tedium for you, but it's your own fault for being so self-effacing. I'll have someone sent by shortly. In the meantime, go home, rest and start on your report."

He waves his hand a little and pinches the bridge of his nose. "Sorry Glenn. I have.. a lot in my head right now, and its difficult to sort out what belongs to me, and what belongs to something else. I'l get it all figured out in time." He lowers the glasses back in place and rubs at the back of his neck. Still stiff. Of course, getting a shield slammed into you by a massive demon will tend to bruise your muscles and make them ache, no? He smirks a little and shakes his head. "Drawn and quartered? And you are calling -me- dramatic? Would you make me build my own gallows too?" He laughs a little and reaches up to finishes his tea.

He reaches into a pouch and hands a paper to Glenn. A list. "Can you get me to items on that list? Its.. what I need to make a new sword. I used the last of my reagents making Agnie one to fight Aeryn. Which is why I am out, now. I don't have many contacts, Glenn. You do. You can take the cost out of my pay, if you like.." An escort? Dear god. "And don't give me an escort. I'd feel compelled to protect them, if I was attacked. No, its better if I am alone and can escape, wouldn't you agree? Let be practical here. If Catch or a demon attacks me, what is a Constable going to do other than get eaten?" He smiles and stands, extending his good hand to shake Glenn. "Thank you." He say, simply. For what? Making his head clearer? Letting him vent? Letting him be normal? Who knows. "You are a good friend. One of my few."

"Of course not, Aleksei." First he waved off the apology. Understanding, so long as the man did what he said, of course. This was important, after all. Rest and the report. "What need of we for gallows? No, I'd have some bumpkin farmers take the whip to you and force you to build a giant gold statue of myself. THEN drawn and quartered." A smile. What a wonderful sense of humor Glenn Burnie had.

He seemed almost convinced about the escort bit. "I'll take your concerns under consideration. There are a few constables we have I wouldn't mind to see eaten." But then he was shaking Aleksei's hand. "Friends can be a rare commodity around here," and mages doubly so. "Get your rest. The darkness is going to come for us whether you're rested or not, after all." What a cheery farewell.
