The toll of the heat

The toll of the heat

Her new job begun and it seemed that the heat would keep her busy. Some of the farmers, and those that had been working on the Rememdium seemed to no longer be able to tolerate the heat. She had taken up place in charge of these patients, being as how there wasn't much the doctor could do save for to be sure they were hydrated and kept cool.. it was an easy job for an assistant to keep, if one could could consider it easy with the constant influx of those suffering.

However amidst it all she was getting to know some of the townspeople, their spouses and their children. She had a pleasant demeanor with all those that she met, even if they were occassionally mad or enraged from the heat.

Janessa was finding that work at the Rememdium seemed to be never ending. When one casualty would leave another would certainly return. Cursed the swordswoman had said.. this place was cursed. She wasn't sure just how literally to take such a warning. Certainly this place was filled with strange and unusual happenings, but many places were after all, and she had sustained much less injury here than in her previous places of employ.

And yet all this wondering did not lead the young woman to forget the warning that had been given to her. Beware men in white robes, blind eyes and bound back hair. She had rehearsed that image over and over again in her mind. Mryken may or may not be cursed, but that was no reason to be foolish when one gives you a warning to heed. The thought rested heavily on her mind as she tended her rounds, curious green eyes always looking to see who had entered the building, wanting to be as aware as she could be. That's not to say however that she was paranoid.. simply cautious.

She was very much duty bound, kind to those that she tended, and to the doctor himself, and yet always reserved as well. She would share the warning about the men in white robes with the Doctor, and any others who might happen to be spending a fair amount of time in the Rememdium. The directions that Ariane had given her were quite clear.. to report the appearance of the men to the Straka and to run. However apart from that, little else was known about her. She would share information about patients, little bits and pieces about her day, and yet nothing else. Then again, how was this different from any other resident in Myrken?
