I feel I owe all of you an apology.
Just when there's really some interest stewing, I've been struck by a slew of IRL obligations coming at me thick and fast.
I've got 60 pages of screenplay still left to finish, 30 of which must be done by this sunday, I've got several large-scale digital artworks to finish for the website of a soon-to-be-published RPG, I've got a possible job on a short film coming up, and to top it all off, the government - haha! - thinks I'm an unemployed loafer, not considering any of the above 'work', and has assigned me to morning 'how to get a job' classes that suck up half my day.
Suffice to say I don't have a lot of time to RP over the next forseeable week or two. I understand that there are a lot of folks champing at the bit to get further and deeper into the Spires storyline, but please bear with me. I'll be with you as soon as I can. I'm really very sorry that it's turned out like this, but all of the things that are happening to me were not forseen. I sure didn't plan it this way.
For now I'll just be outlining a few common things that people have been asking me; Call it a "Spires FAQ" if you like.
1)
What happens if my character checks out the Spires?
Anyone who approaches the Spires and does some investigation will find them to be made of some kind of resinous material and bone-like structures. They appear to be both mechanical and biological. The fumes from all three Spires are highly toxic and have killed or corrupted much of the animal and plant life around the Spires' immediate vicinity.
2)
Will anything bad happen to my character if he/she goes near the Spires?
Those who investigate the Spires will not be attacked, though they may feel intense sensations of supernatural fear, nausea, or overwhelming hate directed at them. The feeling of being watched is extremely palpable. Some sharp-eyed characters may spot glimpses of movement or flitting shadows from the corners of their eyes. Needless to say, even the staunchest heart will probably not linger longer than is necessary.
3)
Are there any kinds of door or opening in the Spire?
There is a small, sphincter-like opening at the base of each Spire, facing away from the tavern. It is large enough for a humanoid to squeeze into, if anyone dares broach the stinking, heaving flaps and gore-caked tunnel beyond.
4)
What happens if I go in?
Anyone who DOES want their character to enter the Spires should contact me via memo (IRC memo preferable - send to Kobra) or query first.
5)
Are the Spires the source of the corruption of the forest?
Short answer: No, not
exactly ...
Long answer: The Spires themselves are not. The spires, like the twisted trees and mutant wildlife, are a symptom of the disease - the things known as the
Maelhim .
Finally, a request!
I've been told that there are a lot of people interested in the plot who have NOT directly approached me yet. Which means I don't even know the full extent of the people who want their characters involved.
So please - I need to get an idea of numbers, so that hero-teams can be formed and plans of action made.
If you are interested in the Spire plot - whether you have or haven't contacted me - PLEASE put your name up here, on this thread, and a (very brief) summary of who your char is and what they know about the situation
I know it's probably not the most IC way of doing it, but considering the limits on my time and the amount of people involved the leisurely roleplayed-gathering-for-quest method I'd prefer to do is not an option anymore.
If anyone interested doesn't have access to the boards but hears about this anyway, they can memo Kobra or email
arcanos@tpg.com.au
Thank you all for your interest. Hopefully this will all work out.
Yours,
Chris.
