Today, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, they are holding The World's Shortest St Patrick's Day Parade, featuring The World's Largest Leprechaun, and hosted by no less than Pauly Shore.

Yeah, New York's got nothing on us. :eh:

Is that a case of Guinness behind your back, Heather? :)

At my workplace today, if you wear green and go to the cafeteria, you get a free hot dog with your meal. Since it's Lent and I'm a Catholic, I'm going to try to finagle myself a free side salad.

...but, really, what does a free hot dog have to do with St. Patrick's Day, anyway?

Actually, it's a bottle of Kilbeggan (the Jameson was more than $5 more expensive, unfortunately).

And I'm not sure what a hotdog has to do, but haven't the Catholic...people in charge things...been giving people a freebie for today?

Most places, yeah, that's the case. In some dioceses, you can eat meat today with no problems. In others, if you eat meat you have to abstain on another day of your choice. Others scoff at the whole thingamajig and are telling their congregations to eat their corned beef on Saturday. Here, it's Choice #2, but we are not to treat the dispensation lightly. It's all about where you live.

Are hot dogs even really meat, though?

You could argue that the Hot Dog (unless it's, like, a Nathans or something) isn't really made of -meat- meat. But Psudo-Meat. Or something.

Really though. I'm glad I don't have any of those hangups. <grins> I will be eating my corned beef and eating my guinness at the same time!

ARR!

For the record, I am still alive, and only slightly worse for wear. :D
