Renewal 2025

Hi all,

We've had at least one person chip in and the board is renewed for a year once more.

There was also a bot situation but we worked with the host and were able to resolve it.

If you come by and see this, stop in, write something. It doesn't have to be anything big. A little monologue, a letter, a fancy of what your character might be doing now years down the line.

Every year we get farther and farther away from the really active years of the Dagger and those years become a little smaller in the totality of all of our lives when they may have seemed so big at the time.

But it's a big scary world out there and this place may not be forever.

It's my hope that it can be a respite even for twenty minutes a week now and again, a few thoughts bouncing around your head before bed to help you get to sleep. What would X be doing? What would a letter to Y look like? What if this happened?

Sometimes that helps me at least.

To be honest, it's hard to overstate just how important the Dagger was (and is) to me then and now, to the person I became down the line. I've never had an experience like it ever since.

Love to all. I've definitely got some Dagger writing left in me.

Sending some contributions your way this week.

I'm wondering about two things:

1) Is there an archival option for this forum, given that it may one day not be here or be accessible (especially given the costs of hosting)?

2) Would it be beneficial to consider, at some point, another means of writing and communicating? i.e. a dedicated Discord server, or something along those lines?

Repeating K's sentiment: I adore this place, and it's been involved in two-plus decades of my life. Happy to help however I can to ensure its continuation!

I'd be more than happy to create a dedicated BD Discord if there's general interest. If I did, however, I'd prefer to pass the invite link privately via DMs rather than post it publicly to this forum, just to spare us all random bots and rogue elements inviting themselves in.

There should be a way to use something like ArchiveBox or ForumArchiver to scrape the whole forum, then host a static version for free on something like GitHub. It'd be read-only, no interactivity, but it'd be safe and accessible to those with the URL. If anyone already knows how to work in Python and wants to attempt it, that might be the ideal preservation method.

Hooray! My phone has the right login saved.

Hi folks. I only have a few minutes here tonight but saw this thread and wanted to chime in. If you want to move onto a Discord, I would be down for that, personally. I can much more readily manage to poke my head in there with all my other tabs.

It is good to hear from people again. Thanks to all of you for still being here.

Hi. This is a Quincy. I am not interested in bringing her back, but I am interested in getting something going. Anybody want to write with me? :D Would also definitely be interested in connecting on Discord.

Yes. Ok, I am taking this seriously. This is something we should be thinking about. We will think about this. It will be thought about. The start of the year has been a little chaotic.

I have been lax on getting words on paper. Or a screen. Or a keyboard. Or wherever it is we put words here. I mean to lay down some more words. I owe Anie a post at least and what I've found over the years is that words tend to compound. The more active one person is the more it snowballs a bit.

Keep checking in. Bear with us a bit.

Regardless of what we do with the Board and what archival solutions we come up with or if we just sort of decide to stall for another year or two, we should Discord.

For now keep checking in.

With thanks to Lynette, we have a Discord. It's safe to post here as you have to be logged in to see the Announcements. I'm not going to promise immediate play if you come but certainly there is intent for play and with a little patience and encouragement it will come.

Here is the link. https://discord.gg/HkzBwdrbGD
