Is she the ungrateful, unmarried, obnoxious girl leeching off her long-suffering relatives and getting in trouble with that sword she ''always'' carries around? Or, is she someone to admire, someone who ''wants'' and ''works'' hard enough to make the impossible happen -- in this case, turning an insolent farmgirl into a capable fighter?

Either way, people tend to decide within minutes of meeting the girl, who has a tendency, like many her age, towards angst and overconfidence. Calling her hot-headed is a mistake; she's merely as stubborn as a mule and as driven as a con artist with a quota.

She has spent much of her short life living in the same little sharecropper's hovel on the same little farm in the same little corner of [[Myrken Wood]] with the same seven members of her boisterious, foul-mouthed, slightly-criminal immigrant family. Like many of her peers, she has cultivated a healthy mistrust of the aristocracy and of the [[Order of Straka]]; this may explain why she has been quite careful to cultivate no affiliation to anyone other than [[Ariane Carnath-Emory]], whom she admires, and the peasant [[Kaczmareks]], to whom she is fiercely loyal.

== History ==

Originally from New Dauntless, the Kaczmareks follow the [[One God]] and fled their native country fearful of -- well, many things, including starvation, war, and legal prosecution. The passage of the first four Kaczmareks to [[Myrken Wood ]] was sponsored by Jan Baker of the [[Baker farm]], and the following six children were all born in Myrken province.

They are currently serving out a twenty-year stint as bondsmen to the Bakers, where they take care of horses, sheep, and other farm animals in exchange for repayment of immigration costs and a roof over their head.

Family is of ''utmost'' importance to the Kaczmareks; all of their children, save Giertruda, currently live in the thatch-roof family home or directly nearby. They have been known to steal from [[Myrkentown]] vendors to keep the children from going hungry, and Dominik is said to be part of an illegal smuggling ring -- although they keep out of trouble with the [[law]] because nothing has ever been proven. They are fiercely defensive of one another, a fact that is said to explain why they only make lip-service objections to [[Agnieszka Kaczmarek|Agnieszka]]'s interest in the martial arts.

Karol used to be a pickpocket. He no longer engages in such behavior, as he suffered a near-fatal beating at the hands of ex-guard [[Curin]] during a botched theft and is now permanently crippled.

The youngest Kaczmarek child, Jozef, died in May of [[Anno Regalis|AR]] 206 of the [[Bloody Flux]].

== Status ==

Karol Kaczmarek was originally created as a plot device for [[Laurie]], and has only appeared in channel once. His daughter, [[Agnieszka Kaczmarek|Agnie]], became one of [[Kayness|Channe]]'s primary characters.

The NPC Kaczmareks exist in such detail because they are such an integral part of how Agnie makes decisions, draws perspective, and sees the world. They occasionally show up in forum posts and she mentions them often in the [[Broken Dagger]]. They are not meant to be player characters, but could be under the right circumstances.

== Description ==
Bryce is a young man of eighteen years who grew up on his [[Larose|family's farm]] in [[Thessilane]]. He has short blond hair that is rarely combed and more often pointing every which way, and usually he's just wearing some simple pants and a shirt, looking very much the farm boy that he grew up as. He stands at five feet and eight inches, and is in fairly good shape with a lean figure but muscles from hard work doing all the labor-oriented tasks at his job. He has pale green eyes and while he carries no weapon, he does wear some kind of medallion under his shirt, the cord visible around the back of his neck.

== Current Events ==

Lately Bryce has been attempting to juggle two jobs. He joined the [[Brotherhood of Janeiro]] in hopes of learning to fight and defend himself. With the all the bugs swarming in town and the return of the [[Bloody Flux]], he arranged to spend most of his time at the [[Rememdium Edificium|Edificium]] helping with treatment and healing, which left him only morning training drills with the Brotherhood. Not his ideal choice, but helping the plague victims is ultimately more important than training with the soldiers.

Luckily the bugs haven't been bothering him. He's not entirely certain why, but the swarms and nasty wasps don't seem to go after him like they do most other people, and this leaves him remarkably bite free. [[User:Pauline|Pauline]] 15:41, 21 May 2006 (EDT)

Most recently, Bryce has been laid up at the Edificium himself. Anyone that's seen him noticed him most likely sleeping and wrapped up in a multitude of bandages all over his arms, legs, chest, everywhere. The rumor is that he has terrible burns all over him, but concentrated in long snaking paths that wind along his skin, as if he had been wrapped up in burning vines. Regardless, there haven't been any miraculous recoveries of the Flux in the last week now that the cleric is unavailable. [[User:Pauline|Pauline]] 09:13, 27 May 2006 (EDT)

After recovering enough to start helping at the Edificium again, Bryce got into an argument with [[Agnieszka Kaczmarek|Agnieszka]], who blamed the healers for her brothers death of the flux. This combined with learning finally from Brad that their nephew had died of an accident left Bryce torn with greif and guilt, and he spent the next several days determined to make sure no one else died of the flux. Ultimately this mission was moot because it was only several days before [[Biske]] stormed into the Edificium demanding for the young healers attention. The werewolf ended up murdering two innocent patients and cornering Bryce, who was too afraid to deny the request for healing, and his lycanthropy curse was healed. == Background ==

He works at the [[Rememdium Edificium]], originally hired by Doctor [[David D'Rael]] and now struggling to keep the place running with [[Janessa]] and [[Raziqa]] now that [[David D'Rael|Doctor D'Rael]] has left to return to his homelands. Bryce has small experience with medicines and techniques in patching people up, but he has a gift for healing people through divine means, though he hides this ability as well as he can. He generally doesn't use these powers unless he can't find a conventional method for helping a person, as the healing tends to drain his energy very quickly and leave him feeling ill.

He's incredibly shy around people, often letting his twin brother, [[Braddock]], do the talking for him in social situations. This shyness lends to him being very private about personal matters, and he gets frustrated with people when they barrage him with questions, often refusing to answer anything in hopes that he'll just be left alone. He's also learned since he moved to [[Myrken Wood]] that it's a challenging town to be illiterate in. Growing up in a small village didn't offer much oppotunity for learning to read, but he never really noticed the drawbacks until coming to [[Myrken Wood|Myrken]] where he's realized almost everyone is a step ahead. So far he's managed to get by with the disadvantage and it doesn't really bother him that he ''can't'' read so much as that people expect him to be able to.

== Getting Involved ==

Since Bryce is one of the healers in town, a cleric specifically, this provides opportunities for people to have their characters healed, uncursed, or undiseased. If you want to get some RP time for these things just leave me ([[Pauline]]) a message on IRC (I leave it running while I'm at work, and sleeping) and then I can get back to you.
