How you view eighteen-year-old Agnieszka Kaczmarek depends completely on which side of the civic spectrum you're on.

Is she the ungrateful, unmarried, obnoxious girl leeching off her long-suffering relatives and getting in trouble with that sword she always carries around? Or, is she someone to admire, someone who wants and works hard enough to make the impossible happen -- in this case, turning an insolent farmgirl into a capable fighter?

Either way, people tend to decide within minutes of meeting the girl, who has a tendency, like many her age, towards angst and overconfidence. Calling her hot-headed is a mistake; she's merely as stubborn as a mule and as driven as a con artist with a quota.

She has spent much of her short life living in the same little sharecropper's hovel on the same little farm in the same little corner of Myrken Wood with the same seven members of her boisterious, foul-mouthed, slightly-criminal immigrant family. Like many of her peers, she has cultivated a healthy mistrust of the aristocracy and of the Order of Straka; this may explain why she has been quite careful to cultivate no affiliation to anyone other than Ariane Carnath-Emory, whom she admires, and the peasant Kaczmareks, to whom she is fiercely loyal.

One wonders, then, why she joined the Brotherhood of Janeiro.

Agnieszka is only slightly literate, having been taught basic letters by Aeryn Karolinger, but she talks like a brassy, well-wrought auctioneer. She is canny, bony, and black-haired, loyal where life calls for loyalty, and hopelessly hopeful. The Broken Dagger has been a revelation for the young farmhand: from her first exposure to Myrken's movers and shakers, she's hung around the place attempting to cobble a better life for herself out of their scraps, leavings, and occasional generous offers.

Growing up in Myrken Wood has prompted her to take what she can get, and usually, what she can get is quite a bit.

Currently
Agnieszka resigned from the Brotherhood of Janeiro when Cinnabar Calomel, in his capacity as Governor, broke the Brotherhood's contract and the mercenaries departed for better climes. She is currently working with her family on Calomel's Farm and contemplating her next move.

Agnieszka is serving in the Brotherhood of Janeiro, funneling most of her pay to fund life and liberty for the rest of the Kaczmareks; she is a known consort of former Brotherhood captain Aeryn Karolinger, of whom she is fiercely defensive.

She and Rhaena Olwak spend quite a bit of time in the Broken Dagger giggling, drinking, and talking about various 'business propositions'. She is also teaching Rhaena to fight. Lately, she has come to blows with Alastir and created an uneasy, okay truce with Glenn Burnie.

She is continuing her studies of the rapier, and has plans, in case Curin or Trilby is ever seen in Myrken Wood again.

First Impressions
At around twenty summers of age, Cinnabar Calomel is lean and wiry of build and stands maybe 5'9" in height. His fine-boned features hint at some elven heritage, an impression reinforced by slightly pointed ears and eyes of pale grey. His hair is silvery white despite his apparent youth, and worn cropped short into unruly tufts.

He dresses in clothes of fine quality but practical cut, usually favouring a loose linen shirt, a doublet and britches of soft leather, and comfortable knee-length boots. The skillful tailoring of his clothes and the surpassing quality of the matched rapier and dagger at his belt indicate a man who not only appreciates excellent craftsmanship but can also afford it, though he steers clear of the gaudy ostentation and vulgar showiness often displayed by nobles and dandies. A slight accent reveals him to be a Derryman, and indeed if asked he claims to hail from the small town of Clearwater in the mountains of Derry.

Previously
Calomel first appeared in Myrken Wood late in AR 206, an amiable young gentleman of independent means who took up the role of apprentice swordsman under the tutelage of Tempestro Deost. In April of AR 207 he approached Governor Coriolanus Helstone to place his skills at the service of the people of Myrken Wood, and was subsequently given sanction to establish a civil body tasked with maintaining law and order within Myrkentown. This led to the foundation of the Myrkentown Constabulary, with Calomel in command as High Constable.

The Constabulary's first major challenge came at the Battle of Haberdasher's Row, in which the Brotherhood of Janeiro led a crowd of disenfranchised citizens to the Interim Meetinghouse with the intent of unseating Governor Helstone. Following a clash between Brotherhood and Constabulary forces in which a half-dozen Constables were slain and many others seriously injured (including Calomel himself), Helstone was forcibly removed from office and former Governor Altias Bromn installed in his place.

Cinnabar recovered from his injuries enough to return to his duties after a time, and subsequently been involved in various actions against those who threaten Myrken Wood and its citizens. These have included the apprehension of a number of members of the Order of the All, and a number of confrontations with the revenant Teron Ashfiend, including a joint assault by the Constabulary fought alongside the Shepherd Knights and the Gray Lancers against the ghoul's stronghold in the ruins of Snowstill Priory. The Ashfiend managed to escape after the battle, and soon after struck against the town of Foggy Bottom; Calomel's prompt response to the devastating attack and works to organise a combined relief effort with representatives from the Brotherhood of Janeiro and the Violet Dawn.

In August of AR 207 Calomel purchased lands owned by the late Jan Baker, a moderately wealthy landowner who was murdered in his home; the indentured workers were subsequently released from their contracts and granted tenancy of the farm itself. The celebration party in thanks for this release was interrupted by the Ashfiend, this time striking directly against Calomel and those associated with him; though the Fiend was driven off, a number of the farm's residents were slain.

Following this attack, in view of the long absence of Governor Bromn and the ongoing failure of the Judiciary Council to address the threats facing the territory, Calomel authorised and declared a transfer of authority from the Office of the Governor to himself in order that the people of Myrken Wood might be more satisfactorily served by their government. This transfer was later approved by Bromn himself following his return to Myrken.

In Others' Words
[This is a place for other characters' views on Cinnabar, for good or ill. What they might say if asked for their opinion on the fellow, if you will.]

Lucian Cuthbert: He's fast... he caught my rabbit.

Agnieszka Kaczmarek: "I just don't understand him. At all..."

Ariane Carnath-Emory: "Cinnabar's done me a favour which I do not forget, and when there are not politics between us, I reckon him for a friend. He plays a fine game of chess, but be sure that his are the white pieces; the colour suits him better."

Tempestro Deost: "Calomel? Why are you asking me? You have questions, ask him. Good day, sir."

Glenn Burnie: "Cinnabar? You ask me, he's got as good a head on his shoulders as anyone in Myrken, a bit too good sometimes, you know? Still, we'd all be better off if the Council would just let the man do his job."

Glenn Burnie: (looking back) "Oh hell, did I really say that? Watch what you wish for and all that, right. No, seriously. I trust Calomel with my life."

Zalin Savoy: "Messer Calomel? A good man, all in all. It is a rare thing to find an authority with as much common sense, discretion, and sense of justice. A rare honest man."
