==Background==

Many, many years ago his life was ideal. A smile graced his handsome features and laughter often rang through the air. He was married at a young age to Latilla, a fisherman's daughter, and they lived in relative peace. After paying off a swordsman, he learned how to properly wield a sword and become a dangerous man, and continued his training working at his mentor's side. They were for-hire policemen, mercenaries, doing whatever jobs paid the highest. Some were easy, some difficult, and others left him wobbling home with his proverbial tail between his legs to lick his wounds and be tended to by Latilla.

Years passed and he moved up in life, securing gigs that paid more and more. Eventually he found a job doing what pays the most: sinking ships. Working with a few other men, he'd break a hole into a merchant vessel and patiently wait for it to take on water and sink. They would wait for the area to go quiet and raid the wreckage for anything valuable. Properly corked wine, coin, jewelry, loose gems, weapons, anything they could move back home.

A house purchased instead of being rented, a step forward in his life, and soon a baby on the way. The violent and unpredictable style of life, sometimes nice when employed by the same merchant for stretches of time, was able to keep him well-fed and his family cared for. A handful of children were born to him over the years, nearly a dozen, and most grew up to be successful. Only one or two met a premature end from losing a particularly violent battle and the other from a vicious infection. All went relatively well with his surviving children finding mates of their own. Some sailed to new lands to live out their lives in a more peaceful land while others stayed on, or around, the island.

But everything went downhill when a surprise child, born too late for Latilla to handle, killed her in childbirth. The event rattled him to the bone and made him rethink his life. Only after his second youngest, Murdoc, found a wife and embarked on his life did he even consider leaving the island. It wasn't terribly hard for him as he wanted to give his youngest a better life. But he packed up his things, sold his house for a boat, and sailed to Amasynia with his young daughter Kirae. Upon landing he sold the boat, traded the treasures he brought along and couldn't carry, and set to traveling the land in search of a new home.

==Description==

Tall, large, slow and graceful are good ways to describe Angelo. Standing at a bit under 7 feet tall and weighing in at around 250 pounds, he's of considerable size and it's primarily muscle. Painstakingly slow whenever he's not in a hurry but able to manage bursts of speed, always moving fluidly like he's gliding through his surroundings, his movements are noticeably different from the average man. Climbing is one thing he's not a fan of and will stay on solid land or low lying areas whenever possible. Even stairs are an obstacle that he dislikes and he always uses the railing when there's one to grasp.

For the most part he looks like a normal man. The shoulder-length black hair, streaked with grey, is rarely cared for while his beard is trimmed and even. The features of his face are strong and angular, wrinkled from his years. Laugh lines spider out from the edges of his eyes but the rest tell more of his serious nature. His nails are kept neat and clean but his hands are rough and calloused from hard work. The sun has left his face and hide tanned. He's 80 years old but thanks to the longevity of his people, he appears to be in his mid-forties.

But that's where the normal things end. Only a discerning eye can pick out the hints that suggest he's more than the average Joe. His eyes are a near solid black with a thin white sclera visible in the edges. From his back fading towards his front is a dark grey color with faint black stripes but they're concealed by his long hair, as are the gill slits on the back of his neck. Scars line the areas between his fingers but they're rarely seen. Should one run their hand over his skin, they'll find it to be smooth in one direction but like sandpaper in the opposite. An extra eyelid covers his eye and his pupils shine brightly in the darkness, hinting at good night vision. Should a person get a good look at his teeth, they'll see that they're fairly normal save for the serrations along the edges. Extra rows of teeth run along the inside of his jaws, tucked away in case his others break off or are lost from wear. Both of his jaws can extend forward for a particularly vicious bite and open wider than they appear to be able to.

The clothes he wears are centered on comfort. His shirt is a plain one and usually dark in color. Like it, his pants are much the same and both are made of a soft material. The weapon he carries, a standard sword, hangs from a heavy belt around his hips. A pair of heavy leather and steel boots, working man's shoes, are always worn. But the most noticeable thing is the large coat he constantly wears. Made of exotic leather, lined with a soft fabric, decorated with a floral embroidery pattern on the lapels and cuffs, it's quite fantastic. A number of enchantments have been placed on the thing but they're subtle and only affect the wearer. The pockets seem to hold more than they should, are more numerous than a coat would usually have, and as he wears it even during the hottest of summers, it keeps him cool in addition to warm. The collar's usually pulled up to conceal his gills and markings.

A number of jewels and precious metals are usually found on him. Rings on his fingers, earrings in his ears, necklaces around his throat, even two large eye-shaped gemstones, mounted onto the lapels of his coat, that seem to follow anyone near him around as if they can truly see. The jewelry he changes often but his favored color is blue and metal silver or platinum.

===Current===

The last decade he and his daughter have wandered Amasynia in search of a place to call home. They have stopped in many lands and even settled down in a couple for a handful of years but always wind up on the move again. More recently they've come to a stop on the Peninsula and, more specifically, Myrken.

In addition to finding a house, temporary or permanent, he also seeks to get his daughter married to a suitable man so she can have a family of her own. The only problem is that she isn't growing up as quickly as he'd hoped, instead sticking to him, and scoffing at the idea of marriage.

===Current===

==Background==
N`vek was born in a small coastal village with the name Kevan, the boy always seemed to have an affinity for water, what some would go so far as to call a Gift. Even as a young boy, Kevan could always locate prime fishing and crabbing spots and never seemed to get lost amidst the cliffs and sands. Like most male children of the village, Kevan was expected to pull his own weight and was trained on how to fish not long after he was walking and talking. Kevan showed great skill at an almost supernatural level, the excitable and open little boy even claiming that the water was talking to him. Such claims were of course dismissed as a young boy's fantasies.

When Kevan was about six years old, his older brother, Adder visited. Eager to show him around to all his favorite fishing spots and how good he was, Kevan convinced Adder to head down to the coast with him. Somewhere along the walk Kevan got separated from his older brother. The boy was utterly confused. He was lost. How could this be? He never got lost. He knew these sands and cliffs like they were a friend. Kevan called and called for his brother, close to tears. He couldn't hear the ocean's voice. Everything was unfamiliar. Scared, Kevan started calling out for his brother and wandering further and further down the coast.

Kevan soon came across a small cottage that he could not recall having ever come across before. Then the old woman appeared. Right away Kevan didn't like her. She felt wrong, as though the air around her was sour, and even the plants seemed to wither. She moved closer and took Kevan by the arm.
"I'll get you home, Dearie." She punctuated her sentence with a sharp squeeze to Kevan's arm and started pulling him along as she walked. "You really should not be out alone, boy. Especially around these parts. People have gone made and gotten lost in the dunes. They see things that aren't there."
"I'm fine!" Kevan insisted. "I know my way better than most men grown!" There was a cheerful kiddy pride in the boy's voice.
"And how is that, Little Ser?" The old woman asked with a smile that looked far too large for her face and there was something wrong with how she said Little Ser.
"The water tells me." Kevan answered with the innocent bluntness only a six year old could muster.
"Then why were you wondering so aimlessly?" Her grip on Kevan's arm tightened and that smiled looked all the more horrible.
"Because... it stopped... It's all quiet." Realization hit the young boy hard. He was lost and nothing looked familiar because the ocean was silent. The sands were silent. The cliffs. Everything. But only the inside voices. The waves still crashed against the cliffs and shore, the wind still howled as it blew the dune grasses.
"Innate Magic Users." The old woman spat. "Think they're better than normal folk. Quirk of birth, mistake of the gods. Cheating your way into skills Good people, Normal people take years to master. You're just a little abomination on the inside, Boy. And soon everyone will see it and know the truth." Her fingers were were gripped painfully tight around Kevan's arm. She whispered words the boy did not understand.
It was finally too much for Kevan, and he pulled away from her with a sharp tug and a frightened scream before he took off running, the boy didn't even care that in pulling away from the woman she'd left four long scratches down his arm. Kevan just continued to run until the surroundings were once again familiar and he spotted his brother.
All thoughts of fishing or playing in the shallows left Kevan's mind as he jumped into his brother's arms and told him about the scary woman in terrified gasps. A search was put out for the woman, but nothing was found. No witch. No cottage. The claim was dismissed by a young boy's imaginings by nightfall though Kevan wasn't a boy known to lie and the marks on his arm could only have been made by a human. Dismissed until the next morning, when the first of the changes happened...
The first changes were small, but steadily increased. Kevan's fingers and toes gained a webbing between the digits. His flesh paled, then discolored. He drank more often. He tired in the sun quickly and his skin grew sensitive. A connection was found out between Kevan using his special skills and stronger changes occurring. Kevan went from being a happy and open boy to withdrawn and shy. A fishing prodigy to a secret. Kevan stayed indoors and didn't draw attention to himself. His former abilities withered, whether conscious non usage or a part of his curse no one could tell, and yet the changes persisted and even increased in speed and severity. His hair and nails fell out, gills sprouted, his mouth changed. His eyes changed, and finally... the tentacles grew from his back.
The latest changes were too much for Kevan and he didn't want to be a burden anymore, the curse showed no sign of stopping and until it could be stopped or reversed he was useless. So one day in mid autumn, Kevan ran away from home and took the name N`vek, feeling the strange sounding word was better befitting to a creature like himself until help could be found.
==Description==
N`vek's body has been drastically altered to something near equally human and something akin to a cephalopod. Tall and lanky, The boy looks a bit stretched out. His limbs and torso seeming to be slightly more elongated than the average person, adding to the illusion that he is taller than he really is. His skin is fair with an orange cast to it with a dusting of white speckles and blue marks around his eyes. Although he can change his color at will. N`vek's flesh feels slippery and squishy to the touch, slightly clammy but far from slimy. His eyes are black and bulbous, head slightly larger than his proportions would make one think. He lacks nails and hair. The bottom of his feet and his palms are lined with minuscule suckers. And of course, the quartet of tentacles emerging from his back each one lined with two rows of suckers. It's hard to tell given his alien appearance but, N`vek looks around the mid to late teens.
==Current==
N`vek barely made it to Myrken Town and the Broken Dagger before the snows of winter appeared. He was reunited with his brother, though Adder was still wary of his little brother's altered appearance. The Dragoness, Drache was able to identify the curse and lift it from N`vek. The curse latched onto and corrupted the boy's natural abilities. Drache was unable to restore the boy to a human appearance as corrupted Gift or not, the squid-like appearance was a part of the boy. He is no longer getting any worse and feels better than he has in ages. Only time will tell if his lost abilities return. N`vek is currently learning to use the bow and feeling of use again and hopes to go back into fishing and learn pearl diving and maybe even sailing.
He is no longer getting any worse and feels better than he has in ages. Only time will tell if his lost abilities return. N`vek is currently learning to use the bow and feeling of use again and hopes to go back into fishing and learn pearl diving and maybe even sailing.
==Background==

==Description==
==Current==
[[Sairald Isle]], officially '''Sairald Airreln''', is a region in the north/south/east/west/centre of the Amasynian Peninsula. It is bordered (borders).

The native Irrelnasr that have been inhabiting the island since the great sinking have a natural adaption for living in the sea. Many have gills, webbing between their fingers and toes and a nictitating eyelid to make living in the water possible. Others have additional mutations like scales, spines either venomous or otherwise, bioluminescence, colorful hair and markings on their skin. Children of Irrelneas born to foreigners won't enjoy the same mutations as their parent. The mutations dissipate quickly, leaving the subsequent generations with less and less until the third or fourth bear no resemblance to their aquatic predecessors.

The isolated nature of the land tends to sap the trust of any permanent settlers. The roaming traders, pirates, vengeful goddess, difficulty of living on such a land, hardens the locals. Those clinging to the past and call the sunken city home are even more cut off from the rest of the world.

==History==

The island was once a destination spot. Great to enjoy the view, even better to seek trade. Then one day the Island goddess Louyrah became displeased with the peoples' slacking off in way of prayer. To renew their faith and punish the lazy, she tore open a rift in the sea bed and had it swallow the city. A great volcano opened up and blasted molten rock onto the remaining end of the island to demolish what didn't sink into the waters. Koros, Louyrah's husband, took pity on the islanders and granted them gills and other features to enable their continued survival.

It took many years to recover from such an event. After time the volcano grew quiet, allowing the people to leave their aquatic city to build on land again. They used rock and coral, bound with mortar, to make houses and rebuild a port city. One ship happened across them, lost from a great storm, and they traded for lumber. More ships visited after that and it soon earned a proper name: Greyholt Harbor to commemorate the first captain to visit.

Sairald holds none of its former glory. Where once gold-touched halls with impressive artwork stood, now a random mix of stone and wood shacks and buildings stand. The roads are primitive and are cobblestone made of rock from the sea or chunks of it from the volcano. Most of the structures are decently maintained but others seem to be held together by magic alone.

==Government==

There is no real government that exists on, or below, Sairald. Bands of individuals, the crews of ships, cliques, and other such people have their own pecking order but there is nothing to bind them together. As a result there are no politics to speak of.

===Law and Order===

The police force is made of individuals hired by shopkeepers and other businessmen to keep their domains and wares safe.
Theft is not tolerated in any way, shape or form. To be caught stealing means a swift and violent punishment, usually carried out by the victim. Murder is not an acceptable choice but the removal of fingers or hands is common, as are broken bones.

===Military===

Military, like any other infrastructure, is virtually nonexistent. The denizens on the island can band together to defeat a foe but there's no continued military service.

==Geography==

A great black volcano roughly 20 miles across, 5 high, makes up the west portion of the island with a massive flow extending another 40 to the east and south. Some extremely hardy trees with great foliage were imported a century ago to help break up the volcanic rock and form some usable soil, providing the framework for future agriculture. Some grasses cover the base of the Faiasirr Daedh Mountain with the trees slowly creeping up the sides. Snow covers the peak, thicker in winter, with melt waters during the spring and summer feeding the freshwater rivers that course along the land.

===Cities===

There is one major city on land and many smaller cities that are scattered about the above water portion of the island. The name of the major city through which the bulk of trade goes is Greyholt Harbor. Smaller villages creep up the side of the volcano but any have yet to be properly settled or transformed into a city.

The second city is the original one: Shailailr Caidirr. When the seabed beneath it cracked, it sank to the bottom and came to rest in the divide. What parts were broken have been mended or used for trade. Some was pulled from the water to construct the first buildings of Greyholt. As it is completely underwater, it doesn't see many visitors from the outside world and the natives are protective over it. Much of the city is now used as a temple in an effort to keep their island from being destroyed a second time. What has been seen is grand: gold and jewels can be found everywhere, used as offerings to appease Louyrah.

===Travel===

Travel to and from the island is limited because of its area, ship captains must be clever to get through the coral and the reefs about the land mass, but once there Greyholt Harbor is the primary destination for travelers to disembark. There are other smaller ports where private ships or people are able to come and go from the island but the majority of travel moves through Greyholt. Because the people of the island are an aquatic people, traveling underwater is possible but most prefer to take sailing vessels.

===Climate===

Local climate is tropical normally though there are long rainy seasons during which the the precipitation range fluctuates greatly. There is the potential during the rainy seasons for massive downpours and more likely that the island will experience many different variations of squalls, hail storms, tropical cyclones, hurricanes and flooding. When the weather is fine though, it is warm and mild.

The volcano has its own climate that has little to do with everything else. Being so tall, it's possible for a traveler to experience all four seasons in a single day if they try to run one of the passes that cross the huge feature. Deep snow encompasses the peaks during winter and the snow midway down melt over the warmer months, supplying the island with a freshwater supply.

==Economy==

Primarily the Economy of the island is based off trade of the bounty that is brought out of the sea. There is however a portion of it that is funded by scavenging parties which go to the old cities beneath the water and bring back the wealth of the people who were killed when the island was submerged.
Some of the economy is bolstered by stripping down the ships that founder on nearby reefs, are attacked by local sea monsters, or find themselves run aground or capsized for any number of reasons. People are saved when possible but the ships and their contents become property of the island.

==Culture==

The people of this land worship a wed pair of deities. The Goddess Louyrah and her husband Koros.

Louyrah is a remorseless kind of goddess that at one point sunk the island. Those that had not been faithful in worship were killed in the sucking void as it was sunk. Louyrah is prayed to not only to keep her from destroying their home but also when they wish vengeance on someone or are looking for reprisal.

Koros is known to be much more forgiving, a benevolent God that is willing to walk among the people of the island at times. He gave the reprieve that saved them when the island was being sunk and he is normally the one that the faithful pray to when they desire something.

Worship once in the morning and once at night, then before going on a voyage, the ships of the people also have small altars, normally in the captain's cabin. Homes also hold small altars on which the islanders worship faithfully so be certain that the goddess will not find them unworthy and punish them again. There are no really constantly practiced holidays, just a harvest festival at which Louyrah and Koros are praised for their gifts during the harvest.

Tales of the island before it was sunk expound on relationships that the God Koros had with mortal maidens, bearing children onto the island and keeping the women hidden from his wife. Louyrah however was wise to the infidelities of her husband and it was proven when the island was submerged, the proof of which still remains above and beneath the water. Statues of women caught in volcanic rock can be seen scattered through the island that is above and the city that is below as though a sculptor caught them in a moment of terror. These are the women of Koros, trapped forever by his wife for their infidelity though the children he bore were allowed to survive and create their own families.
[[Sairald]], officially '''Sairald Airreln''', is a region in the north/south/east/west/centre of the Amasynian Peninsula.

==History==

==Government==

There is no real government that exists on, or below, Sairald. Bands of individuals, the crews of ships, cliques, and other such people have their own pecking order but there is nothing to bind them together. As a result there are no politics to speak of.

===Law and Order===

===Military===

Military, like any other infrastructure, is virtually nonexistent. The denizens on the island can band together to defeat a foe but there's no continued military service.

==Geography==

===Cities===

===Travel===

===Climate===

==Economy==

==Culture==
