Tea House History
Tea is a living tradition in Myrken Wood. It's history is rooted in the cultures of its native people. To the complement of an occasion, local artisan's have crafted exquisitely detailed, glazed and hand-painted wares. The drink itself serves as a vehicle for these creations. Prized for their natural beauty and for housing treasures over centuries, these types of communal structures are considered sacred by many. The tradition of tea drinking provides an essential portion of stories that define Myrken Wood and Amasynian histories. In many instances, a number of admirable tapestries depicting these stories are on display within the tea rooms themselves.

Tea is a sociable affair, normally attended by men although women are now comfortable exercising this tradition. It is very popular for an instructor, a politician, or spiritual guide to rent the facility in order to speak to a specific group. In some instances, the tea room can be used for private parties. While these parties are difficult to schedule, House Madame Cambree Calomel, is willing to arrange affairs.

The construction of the half-timbered, double-story, thatched roof building is durable, having lasted without incident for over one hundred years. As one enters, the common floor becomes elevated. There are several, short bench seats and small tables, and there is a grand area of reserved seating for someones of high ranking, nearest to the hearth. There are high-backed chairs whose intricate carvings depict ghouls and gods alike. Each of these few chairs has its own matching table, all held for honoured guests. There is a small alcove within which both clay and ceramic pots are on display. A counter made of cherrywood serves as a workstation for the Madame and her servants.

Location
On a section of North Passage Down aptly named Main Street, the tea house faces Hander's Barbery and Apothecary in Myrkentown. The two-story building exists on a corner, Ravensridge Road flanking its western side. Ravensridge Road leads to a back alley behind the shops on this shadier side of the street.

Expectations
The Myrkentown Tea House offers all a pleasing atmosphere which requires delicate handling at all times (due to the many artifacts that are still used for special services.) It once was traditional for visitors to remove their footwear before moving over the worn floor; however, this practice is rarely observed now.

Tea House Etiquette
In Myrken Wood, one does not take tea, one drinks tea, very usually in the company of at least one other, and regardless of social class. The preparation of tea is a work of art in itself. Unless her life requires it, or if for some reason an apprentice is being trained, a House Madame will not share her techniques with others.

* Tea is prepared by the hostess, although servers may do the pouring.
* It is improper to dine with ones gloves on.
* It is considered respectful to be of good health and hygeine whenever one is attending a tea service.
* The removal of one's footwear is a symbol of "old world" esteem.
* It is appreciated if persons will dress well in order to take part in a tea service.
* Foods and teacups may share one plate together.
* The proper manner to drink tea is to raise the teacup only, placing it back into the saucer in between sips.
* Should a guest rest their teaspoon on top of their teacup, this will be seen as an indication they have had sufficient tea and will require no more.
* Sleeping persons are not allowed to remain in the Tea House.

Proper Setting for a Tea buffet
The tables are formally prepared with crisp linens adorned with lace and/or embroidered stitching. Cakes and other delicate finger foods are displayed on pedestal stands. Teacups, saucers and miniature spoons are nested with one another. Small, shining pieces of cutlery lay beside filligree plates which present freshly sliced fruits. Ceramic crocks house butters that are as rich as they are sweet. Pretty, woven baskets are lined with linens and filled with hot scones and rolls.

No matter how grand the event, there is never to be so much food to overwhelm the tea itself.

Tea House Service
The Vessels
Tea urns, designed to heat and hold water in large quantities, are used to dispense hot water in order to fill a teapot.

A teapot differs in shape and material. It has been designed with a rounded body to insure that tea leaves have the proper room for expansion during an infusion process. A lowered placement of the spout on the tea pot allows for the drink to be poured without leaves interfering. Teapots are usually decorated. Some are of heirloom quality.

The traditional cup equals four ounces. All cups are served at three quarters full. A teacup is shallow and wide to allow the beverage a chance to temper before drinking.

The Teas
Each Tea House offers its own series of blends. These are what you will find available at the Myrkentown Tea House:

*Tonic Teas - Traditional folkloric medicinals, main ingredient: tree bark taste: slightly bitter.
*Black Teas - Often scented and flavored by concocted tinctures, popular teas consisting of oxidized green leaves. taste: robust.
*Green Teas - A common drink of the ancients, preferred by veteran tea drinkers. It is believed to support immune function. taste: rich
*Twig Teas - A tea variety made of the stems and stalks of the tea shrub. taste: roasted.
*Fruit and Herb Teas - Delicious, fragrant, timeless blends which include exotic spices and trade secrets. taste: exquisite.

The recipes for the many exotic tea-blends offered on the expansive menu are invented and kept secret by the House Madame, Cambree Swinton. Particular to this Tea House is an ages-old tradition of brewing and lavish services that are customized to fit the individual needs of each guest.

Tea House Workers
Madame Calomel insists on precise and complete practices, always to the client's satisfaction. Her girls are finely trained, provided with diverse experience, whereas most Tea Houses employ only satisfactory workers.

* Brogan is an ever-excited young lady of 19 who believes the best way to earn affection is to give it. She loves people and all things new with an insatiable, naive curiosity that shines from dark, angled cherrywood eyes within an oriental face framed by short-cropped hair of deep browns and orangy-blondes that seems to love the handsome dishevelment of the wind. Her 5'7" form is lithe, yet muscular, and has served her well in her past profession as a fire-dancing street-performer. However, she is now mostly renowned for the incarnations of her vivid imagination in the form of the exotic apparel the girls of the Tea House are adorned with.

* Lavender will tell you proudly that she is eighteen summers old. She is a caring person, with a petite body that holds her small frame together. Her hair is long and straight, but she pulls it back for working a tea service. Its colour is as red as a maple leaf on a warm autumn day, that shimmers in the sunlight, and usually is adorned by flowers either braided into her hair or gently tucked behind her left ear. Her eyes are like deep pools of green algae from the bottom of the ocean. Her shoulders always are covered by a dark cloak or a shawl that she says keeps her shoulders warm. She blames this on being from a warmer climate and gets chilled easily. She's a bit nervous around people and usually diverts her eyes from the gazes of customers at the Tea House, but is always cordial and eager to please.

*Seeta is a young girl with swirls of whiteblonde hair and dove pale skin; despite her delicate height of 5'1, she is budding with warm curves, the image of nymphlike softness, prefering cozy corners indoors with books and sweetcakes. Her brown eyes are deep and very subtly touched with thought despite her airy prattle, and her sweet, dusty voice always carries notes of dreamy wistfulness. While she hasn't the dancer-like grace and poise of some of the girls, she makes up for it with an earnest, giving heart and constant desire to improve. She is eager to please and constantly in awe of the Madam's elegance, trying her hardest to respect the secrecy of the teas' recipes - though her curiosity is quietly intense.

* Daiyu is tall for a woman of her bloodline, but this only serves to emphasize her elegant beauty. Her stature is like that of a dancer, with long, graceful limbs and an impeccable sense of balance. Long, raven-black hair reaches her mid-back, while matching dark eyes have an exotic and mysterious depth to them, as if one could never quite be sure what she is thinking. In contrast, her skin is pale and soft. Her personality is something of an enigma, as she often chooses to behave in whatever manner she thinks will get her what she wants, but those who know her say she has quite a firey disposition hidden beneath her seductive gaze.

* Daveney 's handiwork may be seen throughout the teahouse--given the season, there are garlands above doorways, about banisters, centerpieces upon tabletops, all grown within the small hot-house located in the alleyway behind the teahouse. The green-glass structure boasts a variety of flora, herbs, vegetables--all thriving, despite temperatures out of doors. This hobby is what helps maintain this empathetic young woman's sense of balance. Free time finds her in the comfortable space, when she's not entertaining private parties or lending a hand serving tea.

* Cambree Calomel is for some an imperishable memory. She is a woman who can take a mediocre hand and play it brilliantly. From the tilt of her head to the curve of smile, she is ever so demure, with just a touch of flirt. Her presence seems to inspire those around her to stand taller, to speak honestly. Men care to appear noble and strong. Women wish to possess her sacred heart and sense of elegance. Cambree demands nothing of the self that it isn't willing to give; however, she will not reduce expectations once a person shows her what they can live up to. When someone is proven to be worthy of her affections, they will easily feel romanced by her (as they would by the scent of lilacs, or rediscovering a lover's letter.) Let her teach you about yourself, and you will be made aware of your own infinite range. The places you will go.

*Heath is astir with activity. Many petty country lords have declared that they will not allow merchant caravans to pass through their lands without offering a tax of honor for crossing the ruler's lands. The Duke has remained silent on the matter so far although there have been a few clashes between the men-at-arms in service to feudal lords and the Duke. Consequentially, traders are forced to pay more in tariffs to conduct trade when traveling through the western reaches of Heath. --Malaroth 14:01, 13 April 2008 (PDT)
An alliance amongst various Myrkenfolk of various and sundry capablities struck up an alliance, over the many months of tracking the Ashfiend's path fo destruction, and amidst a titanic battle in the mountain passes near the Silver Lake, achieved victory by assaulting both the will and the body of the Scourge of Myrken. The sorceress Kyra was able to capture and bind the creature within shards of his own armor, there to remain imprisoned for the sake of all who live. -Malaroth 05:19, 8 April 2008 (PDT)

Biske's latest character, the ugliest little boy you've ever seen. And quite possibly the most irritating.

These are all lies
Monty is the most dashing, daring Boy Hero, noted slayer of All Things Evil and Dastardly. He's at least eight feet tall, no, wait, nine. Also he has pretty big muscles, so you'd better not make fun of his face or anything, because he will totally kill you. He is admired by all the hot women, though he's not quite sure why that's a good thing, only all the heros he's heard of tend to have hot women. Gross.

Also you'd better not make fun of his cat, Monty Junior. Or else he'll kill you.

He'll also kill you if you say anything bad about Mikhail or Molly O'Neill. Molly is sort of okay he guesses, but she needs to seriously lay off the kissing and baths. Gross.

Description
Physical
Monty is a young boy of about nine or ten, standing at about four feet tall and weighing 60 pounds. Contrary to most of Myrken's human population, the young lad is of a rather swarthy complexion, being fairly, and distinctively, dark. He has high cheekbones and a wide jaw, chin narrowing to an almost sharp point, and wide-set eyes of a contrasting pale blue - standing out rather startlingly from his dark features. His ears are large with no discernable lobes, jutting out from his skull rather awkwardly. His red-brown hair, lighter than his skin, is rather messily chopped off on top, though the back flows out into tight curls descending all the way to the boy's waist - indicating a self-done job. Even with good and constant feeding the boy remains scrawny, though his muscles have begun bulking up and he has grown taller.

Perhaps the boy's most distinctive feature is his cleft lip, a deformity that makes it difficult for him to pronounce some words and letters and twists his upper lip into a permanent sneer.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v250/happytvrk/montybd.jpg

Personality
Young Monty is, perhaps, the most irritating orphan-boy ever to grace the town of Myrken. He's incredibly full of himself, certain of his combat prowess and obsessed with rather violent, and bawdy, tales of heroism. The boy is remarkably oblivious when it comes to matters of the opposite sex, except when attempting to 'put them in their proper place'.

He has a learned hatred of all girls and women that goes far beyond the normal dislike of young boys and ascends almost into the realm of parody - though he seems dead serious about his views. He is a boy too eager and impatient to grow up in order to begin slaying dragons and evil necromancers. Though not stupid, the boy is impossibly ignorant, even with attempts to beat some knowledge into his head.

History
Monty was 'found' by Molly O'Neill chopping up the Dagger's porch, and since then he's become the tavern's official stable boy, living with her and Mikhail.
Pritchard was an extensive bar bot, created and maintained by Mongrel. Pritchard tended bar at the Broken Dagger for almost five years.

The heavyset barkeeper was known for his thick accent and constant grumbling. However, those who knew him well knew that he was really a big softy. He always enjoyed hearing about the adventures of his patrons.

On a cold night in early March 2005, a drunken brawl erupted in the common room and spiralled unexpectedly out of control. In the resulting melee, Pritchard and a couple other patrons stood in the defense of the Dagger. Three lives were taken that night and one of them was Pritchard's own. The tension of the battle proved too much for the man and he succumbed to heart failure moments after driving the mob from his tavern.

In his absence, the Broken Dagger is a little quieter, and the young men and women who've stepped forward to fill his position do so with some trepidation.
Features
Some of Pritchard's features included:
*!Commands - Provided users with the complete list of Pritchard's commands.
*!Drinkmenu - Provided users with the drinks available at the Tavern.
Though not a native of Myrken, Molly has wasted no time settling herself into the daily rhythms of the town -- swiftly finding herself employment at the local tavern.

Her place of origin, Glenmoor, left behind, the youthful widow has struck out on her own after the death of her adventerous Elven husband, Nathan. Some may say that his memory was what drummed the young woman from her home while she would profess that it was to keep herself from becoming a burden upon older brothers as they each began families of their own.

Lurking somewhere in her early twenties, this woman is bred of tough stock. Still, there is a pleasant shape to her face and some of the male gender may find themselves drawn to the full of those rolling hips and the might of her bosom. Curves of womanhood not so openly placed on display though! Bodice tucks instead of fluffs while full skirts fall down and proper about the ankles, all in the somber color of her widowed status. The untamed curls of fiery red hair are kept drawn away from the warm and laughter of summer blue eyes as she works, by way of braids, knots, or what ever fashion seems most handy.

While some may have trouble battling the thick accent that clings still to her tounge, the barmaid will no doubt charm the socks off most with her quick smile and laughter. Linger a while in her presence, one will fall to the enjoyment of a well spun tale or a good Irish proverb or two.

In her recent history, she has worked her way up from humble barmaid to respectable tavern owner of the Broken Dagger despite the swirl of stories and rumors about her, some of it about a tea cup. Others are those concerning the girl Quincy, linking her to the two blamed for the girl's death. Never mind that she was the very same soul who had pleaded for the girl's life or had tried to slow the bleeding when life began to fade. Still, can anyone be charged for murder when the victim is unexpectedly still walking around?

In Recent history...

On the evening of the Tenth of Febuary, Molly gave birth to a little girl named Brennah O'Neill. Nothing has been seen or heard of the girl child's father and one might almost suspect that Molly prefers it this way.

If a bit young and impressionable, this flighty and talkative barmaid has only just begun her adventures into the worlds of mixing drinks and balancing trays. When she does not have her nose buried into an old volume, she can often be found organizing the back of the bar to suit her own functionality, much to the disdain of the other employees of the Dagger! Clumsy at heart, it isn't rare that she finds herself confusing beverage types or spilling a few too many crackers in the stew, though her kind disposition is often enough to assuage a customer's disappointment. Though sometimes she believes she knows absolutely everything -- for who doesn't when one is as well read as she? -- Alli is prone to the same misgivings and mistakes as any other teenaged girl, much to the occasional chagrin of her employers!

At the age of thirteen, she often finds herself confused between childhood and adulthood, wanting little longer to be considered a mere girl, while at the same time not necessarily understanding what it means to be a woman, either.

In truth, Alligail's purpose in Myrken Wood came of her younger brother's demise. In wanting only to arrive long enough to gather his remains -- for Myrken had been Phlynn's home -- she began to unravel mysteries of her own peculiar childhood in the process. Struggling to understand her own secrets, she discovered friends that she did not realize she would ever have, and while the task of retrieving her brother's bones still weighs on her conscience, she has found that his posthumous need is far less demanding than those of her living friends, and her own.

Of Concealment and Compatriots
An upstairs chamber provides the haven of her sanctity, a room in the Broken Dagger whose endearing mess is no more than the result of a young girl with far too many books, far too many gowns, and way too much time. Few know the truth of these walls, for though they are identical to those of any other rented room, their purpose is distinctly different. The countless bolts and locks on the inside of her door -- things fastened each night in haste -- speak of an unspoken fear, and few hear the rattle of rusted shackle-chains when she seeks her rest.

Secrets, indeed, these things.

Alligail, however wise she may think herself to be, is still barely anything but a fanciful girl left of her own accord in the constant terrors of Myrken Wood. In several others, she has found her almost family-like solemnity; in Molly O'Neill and Mikhail, employers and givers of advice, admirable towers or friendship whose presence she relishes in an almost parental manner; in Hafwyn, a dearest friend and soft seamstress of calming and gentle words, a wisp of truth when conscience leads her wrong; and most recently, in Reverie, a sisterly bond whose strength is persistant in its mirrored need and verisimilitude, the likeness of two identical dolls that find their stitches far more unbreakable when bound in tandem.

There are, certainly, others who have appealed to the young barmaid's mind in their own different ways. In Bryce, she once found a dramatic, childish crush, often endangered by her own youthful flights of confusion. Moreso black and passionate, however, has been her recent hatred for Lokelei, a presence that has brought much threat to vows made and storybook nobility, for as much as Alligail would force herself to believe, there are some points of her past that she simply cannot deny, and this anger feels nothing but right.

Trying to force herself to forget her rather unpleasant origin and saturate herself in humanity, Alligail now remains in Myrken not to satisfy a want for a final goodbye to her younger brother, but instead to hope she might eventually discover a reason to stay.
Glimpses
People rarely speculate on Quincy Randall's origin; she's been a part of Myrken Wood and the Broken Dagger long enough to be one of its permanent fixtures. Some of the earliest, popular memories encompass the girl limping around the tavern with her broom in pursuit of old Pritchard, or sitting on the stairwell braiding mousy Lenore's long hair; there were evenings lost in the eyes of Jarek, and then the wake-up-call of smirking Starr, as he dumped her into the horse trough. She stood stiffly against the stable wall with an apple on her head, her newfound sister, Ariane, aiming a slender arrow ...

Early Life
Quincy Luu Randall was born the second child of Jalaine Randall some twenty years ago on Hexal Isle. While she was still an infant her father, Falke Randall, was driven from the Village of the Sun by its warriors, their revolt either because of his own harshness or by the actions of his enemy, Lewthwaite, a man who became the leader of the Sun shortly after. Hexal Isle was a place of chaos and death on a daily basis, the home of Amasynia's exiled peoples - but to this day, the battle of the Sun's warriors and Falke is memorable enough that the cliff where it took place is evermore known as Falke's Fall. They say that he fell to his death with a hundred knives in his chest, but not before they'd lost over half their men.

Jalaine hid her despair from the villagers and continued her work as a healer, but when she returned home to her children she wept away the evenings. The burden of caring for an infant fell on the shoulders of an angry, young Leland, and before long, the burden of caring for a household. Jalaine fell ill from sadness, laid in bed for months, until one day she took her own life. Leland raged, and a five year old Quincy went mute in her shock: she spoke not another, childish syllable for years to come. Leland suspected but never knew if she'd seen the tragedy unfold.

Compelled by vengeance and honour and filled with loathing for Lewthwaite, whom Leland blamed for the death of their beloved family, the boy made an oath to kill the man. When he was but twelve years, he challenged the Sun's fierce leader to a fight of swords; sadly, the battle was short-lived and Leland was driven from the village with the bloody makings of a scar on his face. He took his young sister with him and for a time, they lived alone in the twisted woods on the eastern part of the island, uneducated and unsafe

No one knows how long they stayed there, or how they came across the ocean to the shores of the main continent, these children of the exiles.

Appearance
Half-faerie is an easy misconception considering Quincy's appearance and temperment. Falke Randall's mother was a faerie, and his father was a human, and Quincy takes this aspect from her father's mixed blood. Standing at a frail five feet in height, she has the look of a pale, young girl with dark, soul-filled eyes; her chin is as vulnerably shaped as the smallest end of an egg, her mouth sulks without her permission, and her long, dark hair - often swaying spikes of indifference over her eyes - has a sheen like sunlight off a raven's wing.

It has sometimes been noted that her misleading appearance of fragility is to her advantage. Although she's not often taken with frivolous things, she found herself marvelling at her friend Sawyer's many piercings and her sister's delicate additions: because of this, the crests of her upper ears are each given a mithril, moon-shaped ring.

She has the light build of an elf, and has long been rid of the awkwardness that she suffered in earlier years. She's not even aware of her own grace, the inevitablity of so much training and battle. The vibrant ups and downs of her personality are in no way reflected by a wardrobe that is consistently dreary with greys, deep browns, and shadow-greens.

At the behest of her master teacher, Pharris Tergor, she has worked a great deal in fighting with her hands and feet - but she has a passion for arms: particularly for Chainbreaker, the massive, stone hammer sometimes seen riding on her back. But never fear, for she's not a complete stranger to weapon's of logic: refer to her tavern room, which is an arsenal of bows and arrows, great blades, and armour.

Pemberton Fick comes from a rural family that grows a modest crop for distribution in Myrken Wood. As a young girl, Pember's aspirations of the future exceeded life on the farm. Her lust for adventure began with a boy, named Gideon Fell, who spun tales of other worlds and dimensions, feeding her desire for change.

Pember shadowed Gideon for years until he decided that she and Myrken Wood had nothing to offer his desire to know more about the world, and especially of paranormal activity. Their peculiar relationship was so full of bumps and separations - something both had been accustomed to - that the news of Gideon leaving didn't mean much... until, it became obvious that he didn't intend to come back.

That was then.

Now twenty six, Pember is booksmart, witty, and quick to put out a fire. She is employed by the Governor of the Myrken Wood Judiciary Council, and has other affiliations that shall be left unmentioned.

The Library of Mudd, named for Altruian Mudd, Third Earl of Gryffdon, squats on the hill at the end of DYER AVENUE in Myrkentown. Vines choke the time-eaten eaves of the one-story gray building, a grotesque shape of carved mouth projecting from a gutter to carry rainwater clear of the wall. Window glass is colour stained by pane but smirched with dirt, and the gnarled front door moans when opened.

Inside, lights are low and the smell is musty with old pages. There are stacks and shelves of tomes all the way to the back of the building, walls lined with tapestries, lanterns, and grim portraits of the town's ancestry. There is a ladder to reach the highest books, and chairs and tables are scattered to unoccupied nooks.

Knotted, black oak pillars rise from the four corners and the centre of the library, supporting the oppressive roof, where an old candelabrum hangs on a rusty hook - cobwebs netting from its many branches. None of its candles burn. In places the shelves have been moved aside to avoid leaks, and chipped ceramic pots sit on the floor to catch the rainwater.

It may be difficult to dislodge the librarian from her cluttered desk for help... though a certain level of noise has been known to rouse her from her books.
|-
|}
Topography
The tiny fairy kingdom of New Hibera sits, roughly, in the south-central region of Myrken Wood, being positioned underground in a cave on the southern border of Silver Lake. Its actual borders extend only a couple hundred square feet at most, which is ample for its thousand or so citizens, most of whom stand a mere four inches. The region is rocky and damp, being below ground in a cave, but fairy magic keeps the place slightly lit and warm enough to be comfortable.

Location
The chief entrance to New Hibera, and the only one currently known to the Myrken Wood Council, is a cave about 100 yards behind the cottage once owned by former Governor and Councilor Aloisius Treadwell, on the southern border of Silver Lake, a short distance from the Broken Dagger Inn. Two caverns into this cave, which slopes downward and is filled with the usual murkiness, two green-winged fairy guards stand at their post: a six inch around passage known solely as "The Tunnel." The Tunnel itself stretches only a few feet through the rock, approximately ten or fifteen feet underground, and it is the only entrance to New Hibera. The bulk of the kingdom is isolated to the one town, which is centered on the king's palace with the business sector around that and the residential areas at the outskirts.

"The Passage" is the newest addition to New Hibera, and, truthfully, is an attempt at forcing another exit from New Hibera to Myrken Wood, this one being unknown at present to the Myrken Wood Council. It is, like The Tunnel, six inches around, but it goes underground about six feet through the dirt and rocks before going in a reasonably straight line under the heart of Myrken to The Deck in the middle of town. Its entrance under The Deck is covered with a hollowed out rock in the bottom right corner of the empty area beneath the platform itself. Currently, there are no fairy guards posted in that empty area and no indication that anything is out of the ordinary to prying bigling eyes. King Richard's plans concerning this unauthorized expansion are unknown.

The relationship with Myrken Wood is unclear at best, depending on who is answering the question. Myrken Wood's records of the kingdom's official existence--a peace treaty recognizing such, established sixty-one years ago between the then-current council members and current king Richard Aengus--have been lost or destroyed. New Hibera, however, maintains its records of such, keeping them safe in the palace library under lock and spell. The current opinion of the Myrken Wood Council appears to be one only of uneasy tolerance.

Climate
The white-winged fairy mages of New Hibera keep the climate inside the chief cavern -- especially the immediate area in and around the town -- pleasantly warm and only mildly humid. If one travels more than a few feet outside of the town itself, though, the caves themselves are damp, chilly, and hardly conducive to comfortable living for fairies. No rain or snow ever covers the town or the rest of the kingdom's land, as there are no direct openings to the sky.

Transportation
New Hibera, being structured more up than out, is designed with fairies in mind: buildings are multi-leveled, with doors and landings up and down their outermost walls. Most fairies go around individually on their wings, and there are three levels for flying on each thoroughfare in the city. However, that all depends on social class. A strict caste system exists based on inherited wing and aura colors, and it regulates everything from job selection to marriage to inheritance laws to travel.

Red and orange fairies are solely lower occupations and manual labor; they are the only ones restricted to the lowest flight paths in town unless necessary for their work. The majority of fairies are yellow-wings; they may hold most jobs available to average members of society, including hunting and manufacturing, and must travel accordingly in the middle of the air. White fairies are born into the upper classes, ranging from highly respected physicians to lawyers to magic-users who live only to make life simpler, safer, and more comfortable for the populace; they are the ones with the strongest inherited magical abilities, and magic is crucial to common life in New Hibera. They are restricted to the uppermost flight paths, so they rarely see any connections with the lower classes except, as with the red- and orange-wings, for what rare dealings might come from their contact with others from their work.

Finally, there are exceptions to the typical rules enforced on well over three-quarters of New Hiberan society. Green-winged kingdom and royal guards, blue-winged messengers and officials of middling status, and the royal family pink-winged fairies (currently only King Richard Aengus) may travel as they wish or need within the city, the king usually favoring travel by a coach pulled by trained honeybees that are cared for in an environment tightly controlled by a sizeable number of white-winged fairy mages. No other fairies enjoy such costly, expensive, and simply ludicrous luxuries.

Public Service
The green-winged New Hiberan Guard protects the people of New Hibera, serving as police and military with their specialized emphasis on their human-toothpick-sized pikes. Red- and orange-wings take care of construction (and the rare demolition), whereas a few white-wings serve as capable physicians.

News
Information spreads through New Hibera mainly by word of mouth or town crier.

Leisure Activities
Most fairies have little time for leisure, but there are a few places of general interest in the city, from a small museum (with its permanent exhibits on those odd biglings of Myrken Wood) to a gallery for arts and crafts. The mostly urban life and the hostile, cold environment of the cave lead to minimal room for exploration unless absolutely needed.

Local Economy
The fairies of New Hibera have next to nothing to offer to or take from their human neighbors, maintaining self-sufficient, isolationist policies out of self-interest. Magic is relied on quite heavily for everything from repairs to construction to food creation. As there is very little available that can be molded to proper currency, barter systems and exchanges of services extremely common, although silver is especially prized for its beauty and malleability.

Contents of the New Hibera/Myrken Wood Peace Treaty
Anno Regalis 145
Myrken Wood Meetinghouse, Myrken Wood Province
Raymond Elias, scribe and Councilor for Administrative Sanctions (A.R. 143 to Present) for Governor Maxwell Beauregard (A.R. 143 to Present)

Treaty of Acceptance and Recognition: New Hibera

It has been decided in the course of our events that Myrken Wood cannot and will not remain an entirely isolated whole to itself for all of time. As a province of Trae Kelsa, we border upon other territories, they border upon our own, and, we have found in the past year, others have been in effect long before our own might have even been conceived.

One such of the last is a realm of the Fae Folk, who hail from a land they refer to as New Hibera. To their reckoning, their kingdom has been established, either through another location to the west or through the present, for over the past six hundred years. They are ruled by one Richard Andrew Aengus, the third in a list of monarchs from a family of the same name, and a recent mission from his scouts to seek out further sources of food to alleviate recent famine in their cave by the lake has caused a need for acceptance and recognition of one province for one kingdom and one kingdom for one province.

Without recognition of such sovereignty, our very existence on what each considers the other's soil is potentially quite dangerous. Currently, the fairy realm apparently means no harm to the territory we inhabit, and we mean none to them, so in an attempt to enable further cooperation, we have drawn up this initial agreement, as dictated below.

ITEM: The existence of Myrken Wood and New Hibera will be mutually agreed upon from this day forth. The proposed relationship is that of neighbors with mutual respect for one another's realms. The need for such is apparent; to prevent needless bloodshed, apathy, or isolation from one another, we must work together.

ITEM: The kingdom of New Hibera, however, must take into account the size of its neighbors. It has been agreed upon that this initial agreement restricts them to the caves just north of the western shore of Silver Lake by approximately one hundred yards. They have agreed to establish an outer perimeter two caverns into these caves, posting guards at an entrance they refer to as, simply, "The Tunnel." Otherwise, they are free to make use of the resources available within those caves to further their own survival. No domestic expansion to outer territories--such as the shore of the Lake, the woods, et cetera will be permissible without prior agreement from the Myrken Wood Judiciary Council.

Currently, these tunnels are not in use by any of Myrken Wood's citizens. It is for this reason that we of the Council feel it safe to allow the fairies their kingdom there.

ITEM: The Myrken Wood Judiciary Council has agreed to assist, free of charge, the Fae with a show of good faith by offering them necessary food and water to bring an end to their current famine. The amount of supplies given are surely minimal on our part--two (2) large bags of fruits, vegetables, meats, and bread with two (2) large jugs of fresh water. The king assures us that with proper rationing, these should be sufficient for getting the fairies through these leaner times.

ITEM: In an equal show of good faith, the people of New Hibera have, through King Richard's word, promised assistance in the future. This assistance, he assures us, might be drawn from magical means such as healing, scholarly means such as the wealth of fairy wisdom from the past hundreds of years, or even military means if necessary.

With these terms, it is thus initially agreed. This original document will be stored in the office of the Governor in the Meetinghouse. A copy will be given to Richard Aengus of New Hibera for safe-keeping in the New Hiberan records. A copy will be sent to the offices of the Trae Kelsan Crown, a copy will be given to Altruian Mudd for storage in his Library on Dyer Avenue, and I will keep a copy of this in my own records as the official scribe for the Governor. Further copies are only recognized as valid if they are made totally from one of these sources without alterations. Any copies given to or to be accepted from the fairy king will, of course, need to be smaller to fit them.

(The document ends with a variety of signatures and titles, ranging from the aforementioned Governor Beauregard and Councilor for Administrative Sanctions Elias to people filling the other three (still existing) Council positions to the signature and seal of Richard Andrew Aengus of New Hibera--a signature and seal that still match after many years.)

Gad Phuri built his life and reputation on entertainment of the people. A lifelong drifter, Phuri made his home in Myrken Wood when his ailing wife, Hebecka, could not be seen fit to travel any longer.

After living three years in the region, the retired actor declared his Governorship by setting up Office in a long-neglected Meetinghouse at town's centre. Much like his presence on stage, the audience of citizens was glad for his action and posed no resistance to Governor Phuri's shaping of the land's own Government.
Gad Phuri was unaware of any previous establishment of local government having been instituted in Myrken Wood, and until his death, his appropriately themed Myrken Wood Judiciary Council was the only to have gained a participating audience.

Governor Phuri and the Council Members were an unopposed team of legal experts and land owners - a group that eventually caught the attention of Amasynian King Chedwry. In time, a King's man would be appointed to the Council to act as a liasion (and to keep the Myrken Wood miscreants from embarrassing the King whose rule was over this god-forsaken land.) but this would not happen in Gad's lifetime.

There were rumours that the Phuris had underground dealings in the region. Laughably, one story states that the Governor used the Myrken Gaol to host fight rings made up of prisoners - sometimes importing exiled men who were living on Hexal - to gamble and profit.

Dark days came upon Myrken Wood when the Phuris were murdered in their home. Bodies were discovered by then resident, Aloisius Treadwell, who bared remarkable resemblance to the Governor. Unbeknownst, citizens accepted Treadwell as Gad Phuri for a very long time, until Treadwell decided to reveal his true name. He then accepted a seat on the Council.
