"Shortcuts" in BDWiki are a specialized type of [[BDWiki:Redirect|Redirection]] page that can be used to get to a BDWiki project reference page more quickly. The list of available BDWiki shortcuts can be found at [[BDWiki:Shortcuts]].

==How to use BDWiki shortcuts==

A BDWiki shortcut can be entered into the BDWiki search box to quickly bring you to a reference page. <br>
For example, you can type "BDW:R" into the search box and click the "Go" button to get to the BDWiki "Redirect" reference page, instead of having to type "BDWiki:Redirect".

Alternatively, you can use the shortcut in the URL (web address). For example, you are currently viewing the BDWiki:Shortcut page in English. The URL for the English-language page is:

You could get from here to the [[BDWiki:Redirect]] project reference page by replacing "BDWiki:Shortcut" with "BDW:R" in the URL (web address) field (followed by "Enter").

Shortcuts are presented in all capital letters ("All-Caps"), but the search box is case-insensitive.
For example, in the search box, you can type "bdw:r" instead of "BDW:R".

However, using the URL method typically requires that you match the capitalization of the shortcut itself.

==Adding shortcut link boxes==

A shortcut link box (the "[[Template:Shortcut|shortcut template]]")
can be added to a page by placing
<code><nowiki>{{Shortcut|[[BDW:<x>]]}}</nowiki></code>
at the top of the text while editing.

[[BDWiki:Guideline|Guideline]]s with shortcuts
pointing to them typically use
<code><nowiki>{{guideline|[[BDW:<x>]]}}</nowiki></code>
instead of {{[[Template:Shortcut|Shortcut]]}}, for an example see above.
Another example is {{Lts|Style-guideline}}.

Many [[:Category:BDWiki header templates|BDWiki header templates]]
offer a similar feature, and where available it's
arguably better to use this consistent style
instead of {{Tl|Shortcut}}.

== How to create a shortcut ==

For an existing page like [[BDWiki:Template Standardisation]]
create the desired '''new''' [[BDW:TS]] page with a
single line: ''(example, this shortcut already exists)''
