Daniel Yancy Gree II, while sharing the rapidly graying brown hair, brown eyes, and tendency toward weight gain of [[Daniel Gree|his father]], was a man more shrewd than his patriarch. Seeking training in law at [[Daniel Gree|Judge Gree]]'s command from Westenford University, the younger Gree returned home to his native [[Colmouth]] and, at age twenty, stole the position of Mayor on a string of half-truths for campaign promises, winning popular support and then stringing along "the honest folks of [[Colmouth]]" for a quarter century before losing in turn to his son, [[Daniel Gree III]].

Daniel Gree II was the son of Judge [[Daniel Gree]] of [[Colmouth]] and the Judge's wife, Agnes, born when his father was fifty and his mother fifteen. The Gree family ultimately has connections back to the Council in [[Westenford]], a state that [[Daniel Gree|Judge Gree]] tried to mirror in his adopted home to mixed success. In a subtle form of rebellion, the younger Gree took up the One True Faith, at least in name if not in sincerity, instead of his father's [[Church of Tubbius|Tubbian]] beliefs. Despite his own slight paunch, the younger Gree was able to use the basic physical difference between him and his much more corpulent elder as a selling point in his run for office. His efforts cast enough doubt on the [[Church of Tubbius|Tubbians]] in town to almost completely ruin their minimal political influence, and the rest of his campaign was built on buttering up the lower classes in town, playing to their ideas of honesty and their work ethics. After twenty-five years of half-delivered promises, though, the people were ready for a change. However, with the second Gree's only competition at the time being his [[Daniel Gree III|son]], aged twenty-three, it was nearly an even race between them, with the son again unseating the father as had happened a generation before.
