Commonly referred to as "the Lost Kingdom", [[Lothaine]] is considered by most historians to be the region's greatest tragedy, a loss from which [[Amasynian Province|Amasynia]] has never truly healed.

==Topography==
From the [[Lothley Mountains]] in the east, the landscape declines into rolling hills and then broad river-crossed plains before meeting the [[Amasynian Sea]] in the west.

==Location==
Westernmost territory of the [[Amasynian Province]], Lothaine is for the most part isolated from [[Amasynia]] proper by the [[Lothley Mountains]], a range of craggy peaks in the east of the territory which effectively cut off overland travel between Lothaine and its neighbours.

==Cities==
While in elder times the Kingdom of Lothaine was ruled from the city of [[Leonais]], no visitor has set foot in that city in centuries; instead the coastal village of [[Porth Morrogh]] is the territory's largest permanent settlement, boasting a population of 600 souls.

==History==
In times past it was the jewel of [[Amasynian Province|Amasynia]], renowned for its rich soil, balmy climate and majestic cities fine enough to put the then-young [[Kingdom of Amasynia]] to shame. The Gateway to the West, Lothaine brought stability and peace to its neighbours by virtue of the threads of trade and commerce that stretched out westward across the ocean, linking [[Amasynian Province|Amasynia]] to distant lands and bringing riches and wonders to its shores.

Today this glory is no more, a golden age preserved only in stories and dusty scrolls of history. Following some uncertain catastrophe centuries ago the Kingdom of Lothaine was ravaged and cast down to become a barren and blighted waste, desolate and abandoned for centuries. The spires of its empty cities crumble year by year, and its once-fertile plains yield only acrid dust.

==Economy==
Those who inhabit this land cling to scattered settlements along the coast, for to venture too far inland is death; there are some who still try, who think to seek out the treasures of lost ages in the interior, to scavenge wondrous trinkets from the rubble of [[Ober Guethva]] or to plunder the gilded vaults of [[Spernenn Wynn]], but hardly any return. None who have walked out of those ash-blackened regions retain enough of their minds to describe what they saw; those with sense remaining to them learn from the example of such would-be explorers, and stick to the shore.
