==Description==

"Tick tock, goes the clock, she took all he could give her...tick tock, goes the clock, and now he eats her liver..."  The sing-song voice was childlike in descant, a soft soprano as the girl sang.  Rhymes and macabre little tunes were always being sang, a variation of a song in D minor often times hummed without much thought as the girl known as 'Mad Mek' goes about whatever she does.  The dark hair was tangled, long and usually in her face like a veil, shielding her appearance from scrutiny and making her age hard to tell, though the swell of hips and breasts determine she is no child, but someone older.  Clothing was of charity type--used, handed down discards and over-sized, the tunic cinched around her waist with a length of hemp rope to keep her too-large brown trousers on her slight frame.  The thin frame and simple clothing was usually hidden from sight beneath an old cloak, age fading the wool to a color more a brown with age and time, the hem dirty and torn, but the madwoman did much to keep it with her, though over the late wintry dead she had given it to Catch and has not retrieved it back.

==Behavior==

Mekarie's behavior can be described as erratic.  In recent months she has become more volatile, and with the two blades gifted to her by the Risen, she can be construed as dangerous.  Her words have a tendency to repeat over themselves; her dialogue and words are conversational without a stutter or hesitation, but they simply skip backward and repeat (the more under duress she is, the more often it happens).  She has a fascination with the moon and stars, and there is evidence that the moon affects her behavior, though nothing completely in stone.

==Background==

Pressing her hard for information about where she has come from would be a fruitless endeavor.  If she remembers, it is in spurts and passes her lips in inane riddles and words that take some time to understand.  The madwoman seems learned, though, able to read and write and can solve complex problems when she wants to.  She has spoken in the past of a "sister-not-sister" of whom she has been in contact with in the past few months, though nothing truly substantial.

==Origins==

Mekarie once lived in, and was possibly born in, the southern town of Darras.

==The Broken Dagger==

While it is hard to determine when she started skulking about, Mekarie is known for singing softly to herself, or humming, as well as her usually dark and disturbing rhymes and songs.  More recently she has taken an aversion to entering the Dagger itself unless she feels an overwhelming need to.  The doors have been shut to her and some folk have made her feel unwelcome enough that she will not even attempt to use the door, but will climb through the window.  Mekarie has a rather strong desire to avoid the stables after the slaughter of the pony, Duke, by the horned girl, Phor, and Mekarie cleaned up the evidence so that Ailova would not have to see it.

==The Present==

Mekarie has made her home in the Woods.  She had been living in caves in the Woods near the Dagger until she was assaulted and left for dead in the middle of the winter (the "wintry dead" as she calls it) and ended up staying in the Dagger in a rented room until the winter passed.  Her home is back in the Woods, though not in the caves.  Currently, there are only two beings in the Myrken that know the exact location of where she calls home with the three mares and their offspring, as well as the flock of chickens she watches after for the kobold Podo.

The madwoman has a tendency to tell people to stay out of the Woods.  While the Shepard slumbers, she knows that she could wake up at any time, and keeping everyone out of the Woods is for their benefit and safety.  The Shepard may be a potential threat in the Woods, but the Woods are vast, dark and full of danger and death, and she would do much to keep everyone out and safe.

==Dreams==

The Shepard often called Mekarie her Herald, or the Sparrow.  This comes from the in-dream personification of the madwoman, the Sparrow, who is seemingly not mad.  The Sparrow is a serene, calm persona, neatly dressed in greys, who polices and protects dreamers as is necessary inside the dreams.  How much of the dreams the waking Mekarie remembers is unknown.
