Topography

Thessilane is an authentic seaport territory within the Beradt coastal plain of the Amasynian peninsula of Trae Kelsa, characterized by a large fishing fleet and working waterfront, covering hundreds of square miles. Some of the region is difficult to travel due to steep, rock formed hills that occupy a good portion of its western and south central areas. However, the northern regions bordering New Dauntless are famed for their meadowland, as is the region to the west of the Red Hills and south of Lake Mist.

Location

Thessilane is located on the south coast of the Amasynian Province. Greater Thessilane is an area of superlatives -- the tastiest seafood, the best waterways, and the friendliest people. The quality of life is maintained by a variety of cultural, economic, geographic, and educational advantages. Thessilane is rich in heritage, opportunity, and history. The area is comprised of several small communities, some of which are dwarven, each of which adds its own distinct flavor.

Climate

The normal temperature in January is 30.6 degrees; in July, it's 73.5 degrees. In summer, during periods of high pressure, Thessilane residents can almost depend on the regular arrival of cooling southwesterly breezes that come ashore just after noon and abate in the early evening. This area receives an average of 47.3" rain per year. In winter, this territory experiences less snowfall on average because of the milder ocean water temperatures.

Travel and Trade Routes

One route that allows for east-west travel at the southern end of Myrken Wood called Derry Row is a 'safe road' for those going back and forth from the eastern sea coast all the way to Amasynia. Throughways that see travelers from Thessilane to New Dauntless are accessible once more, following the withdrawal of military personnel, at the cessation of hostilities from New Dauntless.

Public Service

Policing of the lands are taken up by the various Lords of the Land, each being required by the Ducal Government to maintain a professional militia to protect their populace. Townships of more than five hundred are required to have a Constabulary force to assist the Local Militia in times of need. A courier service, provided by the Duke, allows for the swift transport of news and mail up and down the length of the territory.

The armed forces of Thessilane are famed for their use of the Horse as it's main force of arms and transport. A historical mainstay of the country when they, according to verbal and some written history, had conquered a portion of the Amasynian Provincial Region for themselves, before falling to infighting.

Whatever the case, the army is drawn from both volunteers who wish to serve in the Army, or from levies drawn from the militia's of the local lords in time of need. They are formed into Legions, which can number as high as five thousand men when the need occurs. Legions are commanded by a Marshal, while multiple Legions are commanded by a Field Marshal. In the end, all command is directed from Duke Burel in Meadowford.

News

News is supplied via word of mouth and various publications throughout Thessilane and its boundaries.

Recently there has been a decree announcing Thessilane's break away from the Kingdom of Trae Kelsa, this news has come directly from the seat of the reigning Duke, Burel Gaius Tassnehof. It stems from what the Duke sees as the indifference from the royal throne, and their lack of interest in the Amasynia region.

Leisure Activities

Thessilane's coastline is alive with activity. Shipbuilders are in abundance and nested among the many coastal beaches, the largest of which is a nine mile strip called Orvere Beach. Orvere, a major seaport, is host to many businesses and recreational spots.

Located directly beneath the Lake Mist, at the Red Hills, is one of Thessilane's most populated areas. Within 24,000 acres of marshes and mud flats surrounding these uplands, fortress homes are contained.

Thessilane is home to a nearly 600 acre salt water lake. There are several beaches for access to this water. Bordering residents gave Lake Mist its name for its mystical morning fog that hovers over the water. Lore is that the fog's red hue is a reflection of the Hills beneath it.

Local Economy

As the industrial development of Thessilane absorbed a portion of New Dauntless's industry, the community has increased its worth in shipping and iron manufacturing.
