In temperament, however, he was a much more selfish, self-centered, and rash individual, prone to placing orders on his subjects without taking time to think through the results of such. One of these involved the conception of his children when he was 337 years old: on thinking his wife, Marian I, infertile, he ordered his physician's wife to serve as a surrogate mother, only to discover soon that both women were pregnant with his children. Richard Aengus was born both first and pink, assuring the baby the throne in time while his half-brother Orin was born second and white-skinned, destined under William Aengus's caste system known as the Hiberan Color Laws to be raised near the royal family by the king's physician but not to be first in line for being king.
