Lord Protector: The title placed on James Aengus, cousin to fairy king Richard Aengus, shortly before Richard's move to and extended reign in New Hibera. It was meant as a temporary post, one for the Lord Protector to be relieved of upon the king's safe return to Old Hibera if the establishment of New Hibera had failed. Its duties were essentially the same as those that the king might have had with the sole exception of having to stay subservient to the reigning queen of Old Hibera, then Richard's former wife, instead of the usual arrangement where the king would be in complete power.
The post was held for much longer than intended; New Hibera grew to being a successful kingdom, separate from its origins. Ultimately, the obligations of this position were relieved by dictate of the Queen, and the former Lord Protector was left to go about living a normal, upper-classed life similar to those of the white-winged fairies within the kingdom.
