The Hawk's Talon is an airship measuring some 150' in length, currently in possession of Duke Burel of Thessilane. It was first discovered in Thessilane's Red Hills by the dwarves dwelling there: at this time, the ship was in a state of disrepair, its sails torn, beams broken. The dwarves had little interest in their find, and eventually handed it over to Baron Darius of Almark. When word reached the ears of Duke Burel, he travelled there to investigate it -- accompanied by several magi.

Unfortunately, nothing of significance was found...save for the ship's rutter, of which little has been translated save for basic operating instructions. It is currently stored in the Armoury of the Palace of Meadowford, but precise copies are distributed to every man who takes a turn at captaining the Hawk's Talon, the translated portions being required reading.

During the late summer of 205 AR, an encounter with Captain Almais Lansing of the airship Legacy sheds some light upon the origins of the Hawk's Talon. While the Duke and its captains had assumed the Talon to be the only one of its kind, Lansing describes for them her own airship -- and explains that in the southern continent which is her home, such airships are commonly found in the ownership of the wealthy. The Hawk's Talon, she suspects, was built for private use, given its seaworthy hull, rowers, and modest cargo capacity: these features make it an extremely versatile vessel. Dubbing it an older design, she explains further that while it's unusual for such a ship to make so long a journey, neither is it entirely unheard of -- and suggests that piracy might have been responsible for its eventual wreckage.

Her requests for the original copy of the rutter, however, are respectfully declined.
