Inception

The Gray Lancers, are a renown mercenary company, headed by Lochlain Kohler and previously Captained by Deost. They are comprised of different parts, headed by a solitary Lt. At present, their base of operations is Tempestia as it's noble guard.

History

Their history is shrouded - slightly, as the original conception was made for a different world, and a different campaign - and due to resolved continuity issues - they've been planted firmly in the world of the Broken Dagger.

They were headed by an older gentleman named, Arn Grindel, until his death in battle in a far-flung section of Amasynia. It was then, that the mantle was passed unto Deost to lead the Lancers home. And it was a sworn promise to Arn, that the Lancers one day, would have a place of their own in the world - where the men could rest, relax - and live their lives in peace.

The Old Days

Various wars, border-skirmishes, and various disputes - were settled by the mercenary company. Their greatest rivals, the Black Dagger guild, who extorted different jobs from under them and were a great source of hatred for the Lancers. They fought, frequently, in different border-skirmishes, and sometimes - they'd take jobs just for the sake of fighting each other. They even, once, captured the Captain of the Lancers, for an extended period of time. Little is known what happened in that period.

And none in the Lancers themselves, ever ask.

Thessilane-New Dauntless War

Under the command of, Deost, and in the employ of Duke Burel of Thessilane, the Gray Lancers entered the Thessilane-New Dauntless border-war. Given the charge of stopping enemy Wizards, and other covert activities, the Gray Lancers helped Duke Burel greatly in the prolonged war. Given clearance to have a secret privateer fleet - they also raided up and down Dauntless' coast, seizing goods, and war materials. This led to quite the coffers for the Lancers, and, was their greatest campaign - and most profitable.

Tempestia

With the proceeds from the Thessilane-New Dauntless war, the Gray Lancers, under their Captain - with negotiations from Duke Burel as a personal favor, was granted lands across the Sisakoon Mountains, and somewhat near Derry.

They carved out a country, founded by mercenaries, a haven for mercenaries, and created a grand Mercenary Guild - complete with progressive governmental attitudes - and not under Trae Kelsan rule. However, since they house most of the mercenaries in the region - and because of the beauracracy it entails in fairness, and civil law - Trae Kelsa's King, hasn't deigned it necessary to infiltrate, nor mess with it's rule.

The Present

At present, the Gray Lancers, are stationed in Tempestia - as it's law-keepers, and it's border-guards. The majority of the Lt's from this era of them, are now Tempestia's provinicial lords, and serve on the council of Tempestia. It is a peaceful country - with warlike people living in it.
