Description

Personality

Lycoris is a woman who is a merchant born and raised by merchants and thus, wealth means nearly everything to her: the driving will to succeed in business keeps her strong and motivated; however, it is always within the confines of integrity and the law. She abhors violence and only threatens with it as an honest warning and deterrant, knowing well how her friends behave when choices become limited. She is confident and experienced in her business affairs, specializing in the appraisal of art and decor while being able to identify magically enchanted things which used to often work in tandumj. Commerce, shipping, and bartering are a large part of who she was, understanding the ins and outs of the profession well enough to carry her through such a career is she so chose.

Social with a taste for casual ettiquette, Ly often looks down on those who are immature, have no filter, brutish, or simply have trouble making an honest living. Appropriately, those who show class, maturity, wealth, and respect are in turn shown favor and made quick friends. Business relationships are often mixed with personal ones when it comes to the platonic or romantic sort as she feels that with integrity and respect, such things are strengthened.

Ir Sauriv

The relationship she has with the "friends" in her knife is completely mutual and symbiotic. The blade chose her for her strong will and will continue to protect her until she is killed or somehow her will is broken beyond repair. She understand that she must remain strong and continue to grow in order to maintain sentience after death, sometimes falling back on the support of this entity when hesitant or afraid to make a risk she normally might not take for the sake of personal growth.

Origins

Lycoris is a woman from across the south-east sea in a port town named Rooks. The city is known regionally for crafted wares made from the many imports it receives while exporting little to no raw materials of its own. Rooks took it's name from being surrounded by high, tower-like mountains on either of the cities while the port immediately drops off into a deep coastal shelf. Natural resources are scarce but the defensibility and port locale made for a keen, bustling settlement.

Rooks has also been said to be an ancient home to dragons in the surrounding mountains, drawing adventurers and treasure-hunters from all over the continent. This is where Lycoris' story originates: while her parents participated in the barter trade of the docks (in which she also made her mark) her brothers became sell-swords and guides for those who wished to explore the region for riches and artifacts. "Ly" as they called her was found to have some latent magical talent for identification and appraisal through her work. So the siblings decided to journey out on their own in hopes of striking gold. If Lycoris could tell an artifact's worth, their trip could turn to be efficient and exceptionally rewarding.

Days in with little luck or trouble the trio found themselves in a tomb that was already picked clean; however, something called out to her: within moments the young woman uncovered an old bone knife that spoke in many different voices yet often in one thought. It offered Lycoris this simple deal: she would carry the blade with her for the rest of her life, protecting and strengthening her will. In exchange, when her mortal life expired she would join the wills in the relic and if she had grown strong enough, know immortality there as a dominate and independent mind. She immediately agreed without consulting her brothers- when she told them of this they burned with greed and jealousy: the concept of immortality was worth more to them then anything and that included their sister's life.

While they plotted against her on the trip home, Lycoris' new relic told her their words. She refused to believe it and when the plan was hatched, the relic took control over her. Before she knew it or could object, her brothers lay slain upon the grass of their camp and she the murderer. There was disgust and awe within her then, torn from the emotions of the ordeal and afterwards if took her weeks to return home. If it were not for her "new friends" she would have perished again from starvation, fatigue, and dehydration but its magic sustained her barely and saw her safely home with the lie that bandits took her siblings.

It didn't take Ly long to come to terms with her brothers' deaths while the relic whispered of their blame, treachery, and it's own responsibility to protect her. The blame was on them and Ir Sauriv, not her; however, it would be impossible to convince others of this she knew. Many times her new friends showed beyond a shadow of a doubt that it wanted what was indeed best for her and respected her distaste for violence: often threatening words from a disembodied voice deterred would-be threats to her person and coin-purse while working Rooks; however, late in a tavern a man of great political power and wealth thought to abuse these things to buy her for the night. When she insisted refusal, his thugs pressed the issue with violence. Her relic took control again and in the middle of the crowded inn, more slain men lie at her feet.

Lycoris would run: even in self-defense was justified, her secret was out and it included the fates of her brothers. If she were not hung there would still be persecution she was not ready or willing to subject herself to, knowing that her friends would protect her by ending more lives. The woman would spend much time in the outskirts of Rooks until she managed to steal away on a ship headed for Amasynia.
