- Darius McClellan proposes an expedition to Shadow Moon Isle, in order to reclaim the 'Demonstone', an artifact which he claims is responsible for drawing such malicious creatures as Audmathus and the Baie to Myrken Wood. He offers the use of his ship, the Little Zephyr, for this purpose.
- Lieutenant Joshua Kilborn of the Order of Straka travels to Westenford, to to pursue an investigation into the disappearance of Councilor Treadwell.
- It becomes clear that Governor Altias Bromn has been kidnapped by one Thadius Dhrin, held at a location as yet unknown. This is not yet made public knowledge. Jirai, Kerrak al-Nerun and certain members of the Brotherhood of Janeiro begin their search for the abducted Governor.
- Unbeknownst to the would-be rescuers, Bromn has been secreted away in the Priory of Snowstill, where Dhrin and his acolyte Fawn have taken up residence.
- An All Hallow's Eve festival is held upon the grounds of the Broken Dagger, featuring a masquerade, a feast, and a fresh prophecy proclaimed by the prescient Aislinn. That it promises unrelieved doom surprises very few, and soon the muddled details of it have become the talk of Myrkentown.
- While returning home from the festival, Aereymus Haar and his betrothed, Shyla, encounter a fearsome Bandersnatch. It is driven away with some effort, but Haar is left musing that where there is one, more will follow.
