Agnieszka Kaczmarek
|
How you view sixteen-year-old Agnieszka Kaczmarek depends completely on which side of the civic spectrum you're on. Is she the ungrateful, unmarried, obnoxious girl leeching off her long-suffering relatives and getting in trouble with that sword she always carries around? Or, is she someone to admire, someone who wants and works hard enough to make the impossible happen -- in this case, turning an insolent farmgirl into a capable fighter? Either way, people tend to decide within minutes of meeting the girl, who has a tendency, like many her age, towards angst and overconfidence. Calling her hot-headed is a mistake; she's merely as stubborn as a mule and as driven as a con artist with a quota. She has spent much of her short life living in the same little sharecropper's hovel on the same little farm in the same little corner of Myrken Wood with the same seven members of her boisterious, foul-mouthed, slightly-criminal immigrant family. Like many of her peers, she has cultivated a healthy mistrust of the aristocracy and of the Order of Straka; this may explain why she has been quite careful to cultivate no affiliation to anyone other than Ariane Carnath-Emory, whom she admires, and the peasant Kaczmareks, to whom she is fiercely loyal. One wonders, then, why she currently serves in the Brotherhood of Janeiro. Agnieszka is completely illiterate, but she talks like a brassy, well-wrought auctioneer. She is canny, bony, and black-haired, loyal where life calls for loyalty, and hopelessly hopeful. The Broken Dagger has been a revelation for the young farmhand: from her first exposure to Myrken's movers and shakers, she's hung around the place attempting to cobble a better life for herself out of their scraps, leavings, and occasional generous offers. Growing up in Myrken Wood has prompted her to take what she can get, and usually, what she can get is quite a bit. CurrentlyAgnieszka has recently left the tutelage of Ariane Carnath-Emory and has signed on as an aspirant with the Brotherhood of Janeiro, but has kept up her studies of the rapier; they did not come in handy, unfortunately, during her recent abduction by the morhia Trilby. She has most recently vowed revenge against Curin, the former Straka guard who was responsible for the near-fatal maiming of her father. She is also known to hold a public grudge against Bryce Larose for his alleged role in the death of her brother, Jozef. |
