T.S. Brummell

T.S. Brummell is a friend of and guard for Lord Hawkesbury. He is also a well-renowned pugilist, famous in Southern Trae Kelsa for his bare-knuckle bouts with "Huge" Hugh Doiseau and many other notable fighters of the roped ring.

Brummell the Bear Killer

Brummell first gained awareness as a young man when he wandered the Western Province with a group of festival workers. The group consisted of minstrels, fire-eaters, jugglers, acrobats, and the like, who traveled from town to town, providing entertainment during festival or large market days.

Brummell was a boxer and wrestler, who immediately gained public attention by his act, which involved wrestling a large brown bear. The bear (named Baron Bearon) was caged prior to the fight and trained to look extremely ferocious. Brummell the Bear Killer, as he was known then, drew audiences that traveled for days to see him fight.

The act finally came to an end when a spectator came to Brummell's aid when it looked like the Bear Killer was going to be bested by the bear during their well-choreographed wrestling match. The man, fearing Brummell was going to die at the claws of Baron Bearon, slashed the neck of the brown bear. The bear, lashed out at the man in retaliation, but the wound spilled so much blood from the bear so quickly, that the animal could do nothing to save itself. So distraught was Brummell by the attack on his bear, he ended up nearly beating the man to death.

After the death of Baron Bearon, Brummell's act changed. He continued to travel Trae Kelsa, but instead of fighting a bear, he challenged any man in attendance to fight him. Men were encouraged to fight by the promise of a large purse for the man able to beat Brummell. Men often lined up to take turns fighting the bare-knuckle legend.

He only lost once during those years with the traveling performers. He lost to "Huge" Hugh Doiseau. This started a pugilistic rivalry never before experienced in Trae Kelsa.
