Myrken Militia

The Myrken Militia is an organization of farmers, merchants, and craftsmen who volunteer their arms and their lives in the defense of Myrkentown.

Organization

The Militia is loosely based upon an actual army; save for the fact that the highest 'rank' is sergeant, and the man (or woman) who fills said rank is voted in by his troops, and can just as easily be removed by them in extreme cases. The man with the final word is General Eriks DeMord Sleipner, their titular leader and 'General' - simply because he has the military experience, and willingness, to command such a force. There are many more people who appear to be in charge, as they are split by groups of tens and hundreds, but these have no actual rank (though they have respect).

Purpose

The bulk of the Militia have been known to be roused and assembled in less than forty minutes, though it's entirety would take about four hours (considering the outlying farms that must recieve the summons, arm themselves, and arrive at their designated area). They defend the town in emergencies; this is their primary function. It is rarely that they participate in Brotherhood-like activities, save for training missions.

Since winter's coming, the Militia have made the defence of the town their full priority.

Numbers

Once numbering about five thousand, recent strife has left the people's Militia mortally wounded; only about eight hundred remained under the General, the rest either quiting to tend to their families, or forming their own warring factions.

However, with Coriolanus Helstone's apparent arrest, formerly disgruntled Militiamen have been trickling back - almost doubling those numbers to sixteen thousand.

Brotherhood of Janeiro

The Militia and the Brotherhood work together closely; the Militia bolsters their numbers when they are needed, and the Brotherhood provides training and arms (as does Lothbury Estate).
