Paul
Occupation: part-time college English instructor
Age: 27 as of 2006
Paul's role playing experiences began in a slight twist on the usual way: he was exposed to Dungeons & Dragons, then owned by TSR, at nine years old, when he saw an advertisement for one of their boxed sets (Set 5: Immortal Rules!) on the back of a comic book and told his mother he'd like to give it a shot. That Christmas, he was sitting in the living room reading through the first boxed set (Basic Rules, awww) and playing through the sample solo mission in the first book.
He was hooked.
This led in the short term to more focused attempts at role-play with cousins and neighbors, progressing from D&D through all manner of other RPG systems about everything under the sun, all tabletop (let's just say that listing all of them here would probably break about every copyright law known!), until he was in his senior year of high school. That's when Dungeons & Dragons made a sudden reappearance, when Paul was playing in about a year long campaign with a good friend, the friend's (now-ex) girlfriend, and the friend's sister.
This was in 1997. That Christmas, Paul ended up commandeering an FFRP channel from a short-term acquaintance on Blizzard Entertainment's Battle.net. This evolved into Paul's own Fox Hole, which in turn was renamed to Volpone Manor, which was ultimately replaced by #Delamar on Sorcery.net, and Paul was introduced to that Crazy Dan and about a couple dozen others.
VM lasted for about two years, give or take, and was brought to a quiet, almost playerless, close after, with Paul bouncing off to Sorcery to RP in a host of different rooms, spending roughly 2000 to 2002 or so mostly in one of the major channels on that server under the nickname of Roderic--as in Roderic G. Cliché, baron of Delamar, precursor to Aloisius Treadwell, and all around fun little character.
Paul made it to the Dagger in 2003 and introduced Treadwell to the scene almost immediately with a somewhat high-profile plotline involving Tready having replaced deceased governor Gad Phuri in secret. The next years followed Treadwell's fairly odd scandals, magical mishaps, affairs, and marriages, yielding to the present status of Tready's being returned to Myrken Wood to learn that Richard Aengus, king of New Hibera has been set on ruining the horrid fairy-eating bigling's life.
In the past, Paul served the Dagger as a channel operator for approximately a year or two, stepping down in early 2006. He is also largely responsible for building on a friend's creations of Westenford and Aloisius Treadwell, incorporating them to this setting, and developing them to their current forms. In addition, he came up with the bulk of the ideas for New Hibera and its related Old Hibera.
Paul RPs primarily to break away from stress, although there are also the very sizeable benefits of keeping his typing skills sharp and giving him an opportunity to continue writing despite having a lack of time to do so outside of FFRP thanks to work!
Active characters
Aloisius Treadwell, Chief Magistrate of Westenford, Amasynia; former actor; former Governor of Myrken Wood; former Councilor of Administrative Sanctions, Myrken Wood; toymaker.
Richard Aengus, fairy king of New Hibera.
Active NPCs
Jonathan M. Lincoln, current interim Chief Magistrate of Westenford, Amasynia during Treadwell's time of returning to Myrken Wood.
Reynard Gaius Volpone, actor and thief; running nemesis to Aloisius Treadwell and, to a limited extent (in that he kidnapped the fairy's wife), Richard Aengus.
Currently retired or mostly inactive characters, from this channel or others, who are likely to be brought back at almost any time
Bracchus, two-headed elderly dragon with a knack for confusion.
Ol' Tom Breckenridge, local lunatic and herbalist in Myrken Wood.
Francis Peter Chadwick, professor of languages.
Roderic Gustav Cliché, former baron of Delamar, Amasynia (about a couple miles from Westenford); former moneychanger; former toymaker in Myrken Wood. In truth, Roderic is merely a human form that Bracchus has chosen to take on so that he might live in safety and quiet around those otherwise crunchy and chewy humans. Formerly missing from Myrken Wood, he briefly returned and took up residence again, reopening his toy shop from his own home. As of December 2006, he has left once more for parts unknown. There are many numerous incarnations outside of fantasy channels, from science-fiction to the Old West and others.
