- "War" is on everyone's tongue as New Dauntless, Thessilane, and the Horde seem to jockey for position. The people of Myrkentown grow extremely nervous because of the marching of troops and rumors of violence in the forests.
- The Myrkentown Graveyard is desecrated. However, the occurrance is ignored by all, save for those who tend to their own acestors' ruptured grave. Neighbours passing them by do not so much as glance in their direction, nor ask after their tears.
- Despite great unrest and fear amongst the people, Aloisius Treadwell, disguised as Governor Gad Phuri, announces the death Hebecka Phuri and his marriage to Violet Smithwell. This news only serves to enrage the people of Myrken Wood, as it confirms in their mind the Governor's failure to see what is important for the land.
