20 July, A.R. 207 Minutes of the Myrken Wood Judiciary Council

Attending: Governor Altias Bromn, Councilor Aston Aldred - Defense and Civil Security, Councilor Vanidor Goldenhair - Agriculture, Councilor Aloisius Treadwell - Administrative Sanctions.

Missing: Councilor Rondeau Spier - Trade and Commerce.

Refreshments are provided by council for public consumption.

Meeting is called to order by Governor Altias Bromn.

Governor Bromn welcomes thoughts, opening discussion of the 'coming threat' of Zayken Perfect. Governor Bromn reveals that his own brother, Duke Xanth Grange, will supply Myrken Woodwith a number of troops from his army. Governor Bromn asks who else will offer allegiance in ridding the Wood of Zayken Perfect.

Councilor Goldenhair offers allegiance.

Councilor Aldred informs the Governor of defense measures, such as The Brotherhood monitoring the city's perimeter, Militia is cooperating to fortify positions around Myrken Wood, and the constabulary is also including full force of its officers in rotation patrols of our streets.

Also offering allegiance were Captain of the Hand, Emporer Kahn Avante's royal guard, currently on leave, Sefall.

Councilor Treadwell states that he has heard of attacks at Broken Dagger, but was never present during one. So states Councilor Aldred.

Governor Bromn suggests that news from Ariane Carnath-Emory will bring light to the situation as, it seems, she knows more information of Zayken Perfect. Carnath-Emory is expected to arrive for the meeting, but is not yet among those in public seating.

Councilor Aldred ensures that the Brotherhood, Malaroth's Men, aid from Vanidor, assistance now from the Army of Xanth Grange, and the already the work of the constabulary will be positioned immediately, according to the guidance of the High Constable.

Governor Bromn calls Dominik Kaczmarek to speak on behalf of the people of Myrken Wood.

Kaczmarek mentions food supplies are restored, but not all families are sated. He offers that if the Council truly wish for people of Myrken Wood to be and feel successful, that each man should be given land and ox and and skills to maintain their land with. The rich, he feels, get more attention and benefits than the town's poor.

Governor Bromn offers Kaczmarek an essential role in being the people's liasion. This idea is discussed before an agreement is made for Governor Bromn and Dominik Kaczmarek to meet in private. The role of liasion is not yet accepted or it is unclear whether Kaczmarek accepts.

Governor Bromn hastily departs, as official business not pertaining to the public meeting calls. The Governor appoints Councilor Treadwell as meeting leader for its duration.

Councilor Aldred offers for Dominik Kaczmarek to strike him.

Councilor Treadwell interferes, insisting that fighting will not solve problems between the council and the people.

A voice in the crowd speaks. A man states that he feels the problems here arise from 'grave misunderstandings' of both factions. The man tries to bridge the argument of the people with the Council's current policies to little avail; however, his respect for the sanctity of life and our livelihoods is noticed by the one writing this.

Councilor Treadwell notices the voice in the crowd and invites him to continue to speak.

The voice in the crowd introduces himself Alastir Savoy.

Kaczmarek questions Savoy as to whether the Councilor of Defense, Aldred, is responsible for the killings of his family members by Drow, flux, cultists or murderers.

Savoy asks if cooperation can be breached between those protecting and those needing protection.

Councilor Treadwell intercepts this question, insisting that the Council will take care of its own issues, and reminds all that the reason for this meeting is to come to conclusions that will be for the good of all. He then diverts conversation from what the problems are, feeling that the problems are already well-known, to what the solutions ought to be. He invites others to comment with solutions.

Councilor Aldred addressses that he understands what it means to have a family, as he possesses one, and how important it is to defend ones family. He demonstrates that hitting does not solve problems, then asks Kaczmarek, and all who are listening to assist the council by telling the council what the people need.

Malaroth group presents at this time, known as The Shepherd Knights of the Silver Staff.

Savoy speaks ahead of Kaczmarek, stating that the people need assurance of protection and livelihood, also to be treated by the Council with respect and also need to know how to defend themselves. Savoy stresses the great need for communication among people.

Kaczmarek follows with agreement that the people want to live without fear of creatures like the Baie and drow.

Councilor Treadwell assures that Kaczmarek is heard by the Council, and also that the concerns he brings will be seen to very soon.

Kaczmarek offers to continue discussion with the Governor present in his own home.

Councilor Treadwell accepts.

Councilor Aldred accepts.

Councilor Treadwell invites Malaroth of Zachea, Grand Master of the Shepherd Knights of the Silver Staff, to speak.

Malaroth addresses the council with need to speak of the creatures Zayken and Ashfiend, finding talk of food supplies trivial. Malaroth addresses all with spitfire, calling on the combined spirit of defense to usher forth an uprising. Malaroth encourages fighting in order for Myrkeners to claim their freedom from these entitites, offering no other solution.

A voice in the crowd says that the fight should be taken to the enemies directly.

Councilor Goldenhair reminds Malaroth of Zachea that the council allows the people to speak of their needs, including food rations, and all issues are heard and it is fair this way.

Councilor Treadwell puts all conversation on hold to address the voice in the crowd, insisting that knowledge of the enemy is imperative to defeating it.

Councilor Treadwell calls Carnath-Emory, who is within the public seating area.

Carnath-Emory admits to knowing little-to-no solution in ridding of the entity Zayken. She informs that she has already offered description of a mask Zayken wears to a constable.

Councilor Treadwell inquires of Quincy's presence. Quincy is described as a sister to Carnath-Emory.

Councilor Goldenhair remarks that Zayken must be stopped and any information known should be shared so that plans can be arranged.

Carnath-Emory tells that Quincy is away with business. She then states that Zayken is going to continue to strike at the Broken Dagger, of all places, as he has been doing.

Councilor Treadwell asks why Zayken would not strike in other places.

Councilor Goldenhair begins to see that Zayken has a preference for Broken Dagger Inn as his place to attack. He asks why Zayken continues to attack in this same spot.

Carnath-Emory tells that of the seven who chose to rid of Zayken in the land of Kanpar, only two persons remain: Ariane Carnath-Emory and her sister Quincy. She says that the Broken Dagger, she and her sister are known grudges of Zayken. She agrees with Malaroth of Zachea's idea to defeat the enemy. She believes that Zayken wishes to take over Myrken Wood and make it perfect in his eyes, citing Kanpar as her reference for thinking this is a reason for his attacks. Zayken was defeated at Broken Dagger in the past, and Carnath-Emory feels that he continues his attacks until he is undefeated. She says Quincy is better able to supply the council with Zayken's motive for doing this.

Councilor Goldenhair asks how Carnath-Emory and her group defeated Zayken in the past.

Councilor Treadwell finds it important that Quincy is summoned promptly.

As for combat with Zayken, Ariane suggested the use of hammers rather than swords. She described a journey long ago to Kanpar Village, which was Zayken's first home, and the deaths of Mason and Seramille there, concluding that she had no simple technique for slaying him.

A voice in the crowd asks how much time was spent between Zayken's defeat and reappearance.

Carnath-Emory says that she wishes not to address it.

Councilor Treadwell mentions squishing the monster, as only Treadwell could.

Councilor Goldenhair confirms that hammers and axes are essential and asks if these tools are already in use.

Carnath-Emory confirms that the High Constable has seen to supplying Broken Dagger with this weaponry.

Councilor Treadwell then brings up Teron Ashfiend, known contributor to death and desctruction and odd behaviors in Myrken Wood.

Councilor Goldenhair asks Malaroth of Zachea for his interests in these mattters.

Malaroth of Zachea suggests that Zayken is handled with mutual cooperation of the knighthood as well as the constabulary and militia. He nominates the knighthood chapter house as a meetingplace for these factions to come together.

Councilor Goldenhair offers that Malaroth can ask the commanders of each group to set something up, and added that the Brotherhood of Janeiro and the army provided by the Duke of Xanth Grange may want to be included in this request.

Malaroth of Zachea takes this advice, and goes on to say that little is known about the Ashfiend, aside from his attacks on Broken Dagger and the slaughters of area farmers. He makes mention that the Ashfiend 'animates corpses to serve him'.

Councilors Treadwell and Goldneahir inquire of a way to end the Ashfiend.

Malaroth of Zachea offers to lead in the destruction of evil entities. He can not offer a way to destroy the Ashfiend.

The voice in the crowd scoffs at Malaroth of Zachea's intent to lead the collaboration to protect Myrken Wood, and asks Councilor Vanidor what he would see instead.

Malaroth of Zachea addresses the council, stating that the Ashfiend is thought to be going in the direction of Derry, or the lairs of the Snowstill Priory. He states a communication with the High Constable is open so that both teams can be working to find the Ashfiend.

Sefall asks who will be in charge of this chain of diplomacy between armies, militias, constables and knights.

Councilor Treadwell wishes to know if the Ashfiend can be put to use in ridding of Zayken, and if, in the process of battle, both of them will be defeated.

Carnath-Emory begs the Council not to put the two evil creatures against one another, if found.

Malaroth of Zachea insists that his leadership is offered, if only for temporary measure, until commanders can meet and choose among themselves.

Councilor Goldenhair assures that it is the Governor's position to decide who will be the head of command.

Malaroth of Zachea shares that he has a rider going to the Snowstill Priory and that a report of a sighting of the Ashfiend is expected. He shares that the High Constable is joined with him in determination to rid of this evildoer, by marching with force to end in destruction of the Ashfiend.

Councilor Treadwell asks how anyone knows whether the two evil entities are working together to destroy Myrken Wood.

The voice in the crowd who is against Malaroth of Zachea leading the way to the destruction of the Ashfiend admits that she walks with the creature that continues to murder Myrkeners. She says that her presence should suggest that the evil creature is friendly. She states that Malaroth of Zachea's life was also spared by the Ashfiend, and wonders how much of a threat he really is.

Councilor Goldenhair asks for more information of this matter.

Malaroth of Zachea counters that he was tied to a tree, left to be consumed by crows, not simply let go by the Ashfiend.

The voice persists to tell how Malaroth of Zachea's life was spared. She insits taht, unlike Zayken, the Ashfiend can be -reasoned- with.

Councilor Goldenhair asks for confirmation of this idea.

Malaroth of Zachea identifies the voice in the crowd as Khalika Quiller. He feels that she means well, but is unsure that diplomacy will work on the Ashfiend.

Sefall states that he feels the Ashfiend can be reasoned with, but shares no reason why.

Councilor Treadwell asks where the Ashfiend is known to stay and how the creature can be expected to behave.

Councilor Goldenhair agrees to diplomacy in dealing with the Ashfiend, although no one has answered Councilor Treadwell's question of the creature's behavior. He does agree that if diplomacy does not work, then the High Constable and Sir Malaroth's initial response would be carried out.

Councilor Treadwell suggests the Ashfiend be exorcised of his evil. Despite the continued conversation, the meeting is adjourned by Councilor Treadwell.
