The Petty Court of Myrken Wood is a court of petty sessions presided over by a tribunal of three Magistrates (also known as Justices of the Peace). The Petty Court is empowered to dispense summary justice, deals solely with minor offences, and is permitted to hand down sentences within the following limits:

  • A fine of no more than six hundred shillings
  • A term of imprisonment of no more than six months
  • A flogging of no more than six strokes of the lash

This means that most cases involve petty theft, affray, assault, breaches of the Peace, trespass, and other lesser crimes. Appeals against the Petty Court's rulings and offences requiring a sentence beyond the Petty Court's authority are referred to the Grand Court.
