Description

Marin has a thin, but well-defined figure. At 5'9", he is not exceptionally tall, but what he lacks in height he more than makes up for in bravado. He has a youthful face that is, more often than not, kept clean and shaven. His hair in an unruly mop of auburn, which has earned him the nickname "copperhead."

His wardrobe is far from extensive and seems to consist mostly of aging, military uniform components. It is not unlike the young bounty hunter to don items that appear far beyond their intended lifespan (such as threadbare shirts, boots with broken or missing laces, etc.). Despite the ramshackle state of most of his garments, the sword at his side and the crossbow that is rarely beyond arm's reach are maintained impeccably.

Marin's most noticeable feature, beyond the astounding inability to keep his mouth shut, are his eyes. While the iris of his right eye is a deep brown in color, the left is a startlingly pale blue.

Background

Origins

Childhood

Marin was born to a prostitute, somewhere in Regal Trae Kelsa. The youngest of five children, at least three of which died during or shortly after birth. His childhood was one accustomed to poverty and abuse at the hands of both his mother and many of her drunken patrons.

At the age of nine, Marin saw his mother raped and beaten by one of her customers. In a fit of rage, the young boy bludgeoned his mother's attacker to death with a masonry brick. Shortly after this incident, Marin turned his mother's name into the authorities and ran away from home, never to see his family again.

Adolescence

For a handful of years, Marin bounced around between orphanages and other caretakers, some of which would show sincere concern for his well-being. Whether they were reputable or otherwise, the boy never remained in one place for very long.

Marin showed a penchant for self-preservation, even at such an early age. A handy young man, he was able to sustain himself by doing the odd job here, assorted shop maintenance there. These tasks often paid off in the way of food and lodging, however temporary he chose to make them.

In Darras, at the age of fifteen, the captain of a small military unit took an eye to Marin after witnessing the boy defuse an altercation between two, much larger, intoxicated tavern patrons. He offered Marin a position as a scout and enlisted him on the spot.

Adulthood

Marin excelled as a soldier. He was brash, but intelligent, fleet of foot and good with a sword. In hand to hand combat, the boy was near inimitable, but it was his skill in archery that awed his confederates. Eventually, the young man found his affinity best befitted the crossbow. Soon after, Marin began honing his skills and a bowyer and fletcher.

The years passed and Marin prospered in position. While not the most subordinate of men, he was eventually promoted to the rank of captain and entrusted with a small unit of his own men.
