Description
There is nothing really all that flashy about Shannon at first glance. She is a rather plain looking girl. The most striking feature is probably her eyes, a bright and intense green. But, other than that she is a fair looking young woman. Short for her apparent age with mousy brown hair, clad in simple clothes. Matching her plain and simple appearance, Shannon’s voice is careful and soft spoken. Despite frequently vanishing, only to return looking beaten and exhausted, she tends to keep quiet and not draw attention to herself, but with a past like Shannon’s attention is always lingering in the shadows.
Once Shannon dons her suit, the plainness all falls apart. Her suit is a strange and foreign looking armor. The suit is mostly gold in color with some trimmings of bronze around the joints. There are strange runes circling around the neck, arms, and legs that at times seem to pulsate with an otherworldly green glow. There is no obvious way visible in which Shannon puts on and takes off this armor.
Background
Origins
Shannon was the daughter of a mayor decades ago and for a while, enjoyed a calm and quiet life. That all changed the day of the earthquake. Shannon, along with two friends made a grave mistake. The earthquake had opened up a cave-like rift in the ground, and her friends wanted to explore it. At first Shannon did not want to go, she wanted to remain in her village and help her father and the people with the damage where she could. But, eventually they had wheedled her into coming along. She was scared, but the adventure promised didn’t seem to be too bad. She was even starting to enjoy it, which was when she spotted the odd crystal jutting out of the wall. The thing caught her eye, and Shannon headed over and stroked it with a single finger, shuddering at the feeling it gave her. She backed away, suddenly wanting to go back home. Her friends laughed at her for getting spooked by a crystal, but when they saw it, their minds turned to thoughts of profit. It was a large and very nice looking crystal. They could pry it out of the wall and possibly sell it for a good bit of money.
The moment the crystal was removed, what little light there had been in the rift went out. The opening hadn’t collapsed, there wasn’t a cave-in, all the light just stopped. One of Shannon’s friends lost it completely and threw the crystal to the ground before taking off running and screaming. There was a flash of green light from the floored crystal, and the screaming abruptly stopped with a solitary thud. Her second friend yelled and kicked the crystal before he too took off running. He was met with the same fate as the first. Now just Shannon remained, she had no idea what happened to her friends and was too afraid to even move. Shannon's still not sure how long she remained motionless and terrified before something happened. Something emerged from the crystal. They'd upset a Higher Being's sacred grounds, and desecrated them with their presence, before trying to run from their trespassing sins. All of them but Shannon... The girl had been terrified, but stayed, she hadn't run. This interested the Higher Being who offered Shannon a choice, either It would kill her now and claim her soul along with the souls of her two now dead friends, or she could work off their trespass.
She agreed without even hearing the conditions. She was given powers and a uniform to suit her new position under the Higher Being. But, it was a curse, Shannon could never return home, and the powers were horrible, only capable of causing pain. She could create blasts of a strange glowing green magic. The blasts show little to no effect whatsoever to non-organic material. But, organic materials on the other hand are dreadfully burned and even rotted away. She was a pawn, used in some game that Beings like this one enjoyed playing.
Shannon was forced to fight other pawns, but mostly she was used as a weapon against the Being's enemies. As more and more time passed, Shannon couldn't take it anymore and soon stole the artifact where the Being housed her friend's souls and fled. She tearfully freed them and tried to return home, only to find that though she had stayed the same, decades had passed while she had been under the Being. She couldn't return home now and continued running, but the Higher Being caught her with no trouble at all. But the question on how to punish Shannon for her defiance and theft remained. By now the girl would consider death to be a release.
In the end It enhanced Shannon's powers to the point where she couldn’t go without the enchanted armor for long. The magical energies inside her body would not lay dormant. Now Shannon would physically need to enter battle to Its bidding and now a threat of further punishment hangs over Shannon’s head: disobey or anger the Being again and the power will become all that’s left of Shannon, she will never feel or be human again.
The Broken Dagger
Shannon has spent the last few decades wandering the world in her self-imposed exile from humanity. She never stays in one area for too long before the Higher Being summons her to Its court. It wasn’t until she came across Myrken Wood and the Broken Dagger tavern that Shannon felt she found some place where she just might be able to find kindred spirits.
The Present
Since arriving in Myrken Wood, Shannon has yet to hear from the Higher Being, but the threat It left hangs over Shannon’s head like her own personal storm cloud. Treadwell has gifted her with a troubling present of a doll that looks like her. As long as Shannon is within an arm’s length of the doll, even in her armor, she appears human. Since her arrival, Shannon has had an unfortunate run-in with Catch which has left Shannon confused as to whether the addled man hates or fears her.
