- A circus pitches its tents just outside of Myrkentown; amongst its spectacles and exhibits is featured the half-breed Dio.
- In coastal Orvere, the faction plotting against Duke Burel makes its first move, dispatching assassins to slay the Duke's close ally, Coran D'zir. At Coran's School of Thessilane, where his mages are trained, they will find aid in the form of Per -- an ally of young Jorn Lundstroem.
- One of Myrken Wood's more remote homes is burned to the ground; five charred corpses are found in the very center of its ashen fields. The scene is discovered by Channe and Alosius Treadwell, who report immediately to the Order of Straka; Private Janis Williams investigates, determining the cause to be magical, but fails to locate the sole survivor, Tom Breckenridge.
