Description
Selwyn is rarely without his knowing smirk and swagger, giving the impression that he is unconcerned with the task at hand. He enjoys having others doubt him and his abilities, reveling in their surprise when he does eventually display his prowess, both in and out of combat. He likes to gauge the abilities of others and learn things about them that he can use to his advantage, especially their personal philosophies, which he pokes holes in when he bests them. He is prone to monolouging and being a devil's advocate in general, traits that frustrate his comrades. He is also incredibly sadistic, even by the Bloodletters' standards.
Selwyn's manifestation is referred to as Mirroring, which at a glance looks to the untrained eye as if he is copying his opponent's fighting style and countering their attacks. In actuality, he is able to anticipate a person's next thought or action to some extent and act accordingly, moving with their attacks and striking when the opportunity presents itself. Wielding an black gauntlet with sharp fingertips and spiked knuckles, he prefers close-quarters combat and excels at one-on-one fights. His weakness makes itself known when he is faced with multiple opponents, unable to Mirror more than one person's actions at a time. In addition, his ability requires intense concentration and footwork that drains his energy reserves and forces him to rest as soon as possible once the threat has been dealt with.
Background
Origins
Selwyn is the second original member of the Bloodletters and was the first person that Crucia personally trained, a process she refers to as "breaking". Originally a petty thief that used his powers to stay one step ahead of those who pursued him, he was caught by palace guards when he attempted to steal from the Mixalydian treasury. Despite the punishment of his crime being execution by hanging, Crucia was impressed that he had made it into the vault without being detected and deemed him a possible candidate for assisting her as a fellow inquisitor. He proved to be more tenacious than he first appeared when she broke him, and though he resented her at first, he begrudgingly accepted that being under her control was better than dying.
Over time, he found that he agreed with the majority of Crucia's methods and personal philosophies, and his reluctance to stand at her side gradually faded. In addition to finding someone with whom he meshed personality wise, he was delighted to be allowed to do as he pleased as an official inquisitor, within reason.
