Up Next: Broken Dagger Brainstorming!

Postby Wendy » Wed Nov 29, 2006 11:55 am

Players of The Dagger run plots and events very well, but there are often times when these plans end up in side channels or played out by smaller groups of people (which is mostly inevitable when our storylines get as intimate as they do!) Still, there is a lot of support being shared for all-inclusive play that can involve "the channel at large" -- stuff that could motivate smaller, private role-plays, but would be something everyone can take part in.

Your Ops have been working to create ways for most, if not all, players to get in on the action going on in and around the Dagger. Rattrap (one our new cofounders!) has programmed Statsbot so that you can message him and get detailed information about where RP is happening, who is involved and how long ago it has taken place. All "dagger" related rooms are public, despite the need for +s or +R settings which have kept us free from spammers and drive-by "hello"s in the middle of the rp.

In addition to this unique feature, the Ops team wishes to develop an events forum: one in which both ops and players can take part in sharing creative ideas and providing "public" plots and events. The Ops team will not be in charge of these discussions; however, all channel rules still apply to the role-play in our rooms and Ops must enforce them, if the need ever should arise.

That said, if you love to share RP events and plot ideas, are able to work well with others, have webpage experience (not necessary to join!) Also, if you are reliable and available and if you really want to be a part of making things happen in "BD" for all players then, by all means.. leave us a message in this thread, or you can PM or Memo any Broken Dagger operator and have yourself added to the Brainstorm Forums.

The act of events-planning will have a few guidelines to follow and Ops will assist when asked to, but the forums group itself will be responsible for its own construction, planning, events/plot promoting and concluding. It truly requires that motivated individuals participate, which doesn't mean you can't join if you're quiet, it just means your help is vital to the team's successful planning.

One last note: This forum isn't being formed to take away from any player who wishes to independently provide a plot or event (all players are encouraged to provide both!) It is just a means to combine players and ideas.

We invite you to participate! Any one can take part in the Brainstorm Forums (soon to be revealed!) at any time. Questions? Please post them. Better yet, add your name and we'll get things rollin'!

If you are interested in taking part, just leave your name. There's room for everyone, for instance, here's me:

Wendy
skills:
graphics & webpage design, public relations, advertising
likes:
role-playing, meeting new players, getting things started IC, listening, talking

As you can see, I'm not a big "idea" person, but I'm the type of person who can take the ball and run with it. The forums will make use of all kinds of people with different skills and likes.. so don't be too shy, okay? I can't wait to see this roll.

Mmmm. Count me in, I reckon. :)

Name's Paul, though most folks just holler "Hey Tready" when they see me on here.

Skills include an insane knack for coming up with setting and background information, often adding to the "little things" that help flesh out a storyline. Think of me, I suppose, as the kind of guy who helps fill in the gaps--the pieces that add culture and life to a setting instead of just being the typical bar-bed-and-brothel folks see too often in channels. For details of my past work in setting and background work, check the "Corrections Hiberan" and "Twelve o'clock and all is Treadwell" threads on these very forums--especially the former. Just a warning: the second thread's a little long!

One of my chief beliefs about RP is that it's meant to be a communal effort. While soloing an RP session is great and all, it cuts down on the game being a social scene, a chance for player interaction. Thus, I truly enjoy bouncing ideas around with other people.

Likes include people willing to communicate and folks who trust other gamers enough to let them get their games on.

Of course I will be here, couldn't help it if I wanted to ;)

The name is Melanie, but most of you know that. If you don't you probably know me as Altias Bromn. (points to avatar).

Skills, hmmm. Does a knack for causing trouble count as a skill? I find myself usually in the position of playing Devil's advocate, or in some cases, the devil himself. :) What I mean to say is that I like to keep things interesting and am almost always plotting something disastrous or dastardly. I love to work on storylines and character development. I am told I have a bit of a gift for naming characters as well *shrug* I usually have more than enough room in my schedule to play throw away characters for people and things like that.

For me...the play is the thing. I get sad when I see the room has been dormant for 7, 9, 12 hours. I would love to have enough interesting things going to let people feel like they have something they can be playing with all the time. I also want to work on having more things available for people who don't have days on end to devote to RP. Sometimes coming to a channel were everyone has been for years, and they play everyday, can be a little intimidating.

Likes: Well...RP, of course. I love people who are adventurous. I like people who trust and are willing to go out on a limb with their character, knowing I would never damage them without permission. I love having the privilege of fleshing out a storyline with someone, being a part of their vision. Or having the great gift of having them be a part of mine.

I look forward to the input, ideas and creativity of everyone. Let's play!

My name is Damien, and I'm a RP-aholic. :)

One last note: This forum isn't being formed to take away from any player who wishes to independently provide a plot or event (all players are encouraged to provide both!) It is just a means to combine players and ideas.

I just wanted to repeat this. This team's existence in NO WAY affects your freedom to do your own, independant plotting however you want to (within rules, of course!). ZERO ways. Like, ZERO DIVIDED BY INFINITY SQUARED WAYS. The absolute vacuum of nothingness standing in your way is so vacuous, like...if it were unleashed in the real universe, all would cease to exist, including the vacuum.

...but ever thought of a neat idea, but didn't think you could push it along yourself? Didn't have the time too, or the confidence? Then this is for you!

Ever had a great idea, pushed it along just fine and are absolutely confident in your ability to do anything, including jump tall buildings in single bounds? Well, this is for you, too.

...and everyone in between. :headbang:

Count me in!

I'm Brian, as many of you already know. My one and only character is D'ran, the tavern guard that seems to get the short end of the stick more often than not. ;)

On the technical side, I know HTML, PHP, and mySQL, so I can write simple web page or a dynamic, database-driven website. I have experience with usability design and critique, so I can help make a web page easy to use. Also, I have some graphics experience, but I am definitely not an artist.

On the creative side, I consider myself a refiner of ideas. I'm not so great with coming up with ideas, but I can grow and/or polish an idea pretty well. I have a quirky sense of humor that often influences my creative work.

For me, the best parts of RP are the character interaction and the storytelling. I like to strike a balance between quality and quantity, with a lean toward quality.

I enjoy taking something and running with it, meeting and helping new people, and characters with flaws/weaknesses.

The voting for whether the brainstorm forums should be public or private has nearly ended. The forums have been made and are ready for those of you who want to be on the team. If the poll finishes with a decision to make them public, then they will be! In the meantime, anyone else who wishes to be included in the production of some room events and other plans for BD, please let me know!

You can post here in this thread, or pm me online or write me an email at emousie@hotmail.com or you can leave me a memo on Starchat.

I'm happy to add you/grant your access for the time being, so you can get in there and take a look around.

So far, on this team are:

Treadwell
Altias Bromn
Rattrap
LightForce
Jacktim
Wendy
Carnath-Emory
Jirai
Channe

Please, don't be shy! We can use your help :)

Hello

My name is also Brian, and I'd like to help!

I'm still very new here but I've been RPing in various forms for some time now. Apart from a love of complex stories and for role-playing itself all I can offer is a sense of fair play and a desire to build a strong sense of community.
I wish I had a reason
My flaws are open season
For this I gave up trying
One good turn deserves my dying

hi, I'm Jen, and I'll be joining the brainstormers. (:

I'd also like to help bring the community together with channel-wide plots. My skill is not so much ideas, as implementing the ideas of others - and I'd like to help out by doing that.
