Ops are meant to be watching over the rooms, helping new (and returned!) players ease into the setting IC, answering player questions, advocating for player's needs/wants, displaying respect for the others in our rooms and enforcing that policy, discussing/deciding settings changes, role-playing, supplying player polls to gather opinion, maintaining the wiki, the website and the bot.
Your ops do quite a bit behind the scenes, and also right in front of you, to keep the channel running comfortably for as many players as possible. They share a number of responsibilities and are helpful people with welcoming personalities.
It is pretty hard to let go of ops who have brought so much fun and intrigue to our rooms, especially when they're well-loved by our team and the room as a whole.. but, due to personal and career lives being busier, some of us haven't got the time we'd like to actively participate in things as an op any more.
Last night, after meeting, both K (Channe) and Boyd (Vanidor/Aeryn) stepped down from the team. They have been very busy in their lives, which we can't be sad about, exactly, but we will miss them just the same.
K has brought a lot of spunk to our channel and has been an outspoken advocate for the wants of our players in the past. She served as cofounder for me, until her career became busier, and has been an inexhaustable powerhouse in making RP mysterious and all-inclusive. We will miss K's enthusiasm on the team, but have been assured that she will still be plugging it into the role-play whenever she is able to come by.
Boyd has been a quiet observer who only flipped two cents in when it seemed to matter most, and let me tell you, his two cents has been worth a hundred of my own. Boyd's been an Op in BD for.. ever. We opped together on Anothernet (for those of you who remember that network!) and stuck through the changes of Starchat and adjusting to new channel founders. He has been a great friend in all of this time and ..it is really hard to write a goodbye to him on behalf of the team. Will miss a great deal.
Like K, Boyd plans to continue to role-play with us. We look forward to seeing them again.
As it is with any op who leaves our team, the door is open for another opportunity to join in the future. We're big fans of fifty billion chances. *g*
Remaining ops will continue to share the responsibilities of "holding down the fort" as they have been, and I just want to add a huge THANK YOU to all of them for doing so. The amount of attention they give our players and the contributions of their time and skills is remarkable (which is true of every op we have ever had on our team.)
