Quit Messages for Great Fun!

Postby Vanidor » Mon Jan 12, 2004 4:31 am

I confess that my own quit messages are often based of what a character has actually -said- already. Does that count?

I mean my main two...

"Life with Purpose. Die with Honour" was Burel talking to someone... I think it was Ari, or maybe to Prince Taliaferro, but I can't rightly recall at the moment.

And the other "Put me down. Pick me up." is the inscription on the sword that belongs to Burel, and sits in his office, over his chair. "Put me down." on one side, and then "Pick me up." on the other.

However! My favourite quit message was this "My dear... I think I could fall madly in bed with you." I'd like to see that one used... though I'm sure it'd be Suede to be the one to say it! :)

One should always be drunk. That's all that matters... But with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you chose. But get drunk. - Charles Baudelaire

Oh yeah...

I almost forgot i had these..

"incolore verde idee dorme furiosamente"

"Haben Sie eine gute Nacht!"

"Usisafirie nyota ya mwenzio"

and

"Kushti Ratti"

There was one other, I just don't remember it. However, I can't really see any of these actually usable in a post.

How did I guess that the subject of traslations were going to come up.

Alright, I'll do it even though I said that i never would.

1) "incolore verde idee dorme furiosamente"

(Italian): "Colorless green ideas sleep Furiously."

2) "Haben Sie eine gute Nacht!"

(German): Have a good night!

3) "Usisafirie nyota ya mwenzio"

(Swahili): "Do not sail in someone else's star.."

4) "Love tutar šaj èoren, ale so džanes, òiko tutar na lela."

(Romany): "They can take your money but no one can take from you what you have learned from you."

5) "Loki ti rat" or "Kushti Ratti"

(Romany): Good night.

*ponders making <Calandra> Colorless green ideas sleep furiously." her quit message.*

Except that nothing can be colorless and green at the same time...

;D
Did you ever wonder what happens when there's dirt on the "Bat Signal?" It wouldn't even look like a bat anymore. Maybe they'd accidentally summon a superhero named "Misshapen Blob Man." I bet he weighs 900 lbs. and comes in the "Misshapen Blobmobile." And the cops go, "Aaah! Clean the lens!" And his theme could be the Batman song at about 10 R.P.M.

Good ol' Noam Chomsky and a great example of a series of words strung together randomly. Grammatical according to the lexical classification, and non-sense on a semantic level.

I love anthropological linguistics. I love linguistics for that matter.
